TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME September 2, 2018 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES STARTING SEPTEMBER 16th Together as children, teens, parents, fellow-parishioners and friends we learn to follow Jesus Christ as Roman Catholics. We strive to nurture the seed of faith that was sown in the waters of baptism. We work to equip families of all kinds with the tools needed to live lives rooted in the gospel. We prepare and accompany our young people to encounter Christ in the Sacraments of the church. We strive to build a good foundation of Christian values for living in the world of 2018 and beyond. These are the goals of our joint English-language Religious Education program at Holy Family and Saint Stephen Parishes. And while we undertake the challenge with joy and hope, we are mindful that our catechists and teachers cannot replace the role of parents in the teaching of the Catholic faith to our young people. What is taught in Religious Education must be practiced and reinforced at home in our families. For this reason teachers and parents are called to work together. Classes for grades K-8 will begin on Sunday, September 16th, 2018. Class times are 8:15-9:15 am. Classes this year will be held at the St. Joseph Religious Education Center (YOU, Inc. building) 81 Plantation Street. Classes for High School students and preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation are held on Sunday evenings. These will begin on September 30, 2018. The classes are held 6:30-8:00 pm on alternating weeks. Religious Education registration forms may be found online at www.ststephenworcester.org or at www.holyfamilyparishworcester.org. The forms together with the religious education fee may be placed in an envelope and put in the offertory basket at Mass OR mailed to either St. Joseph or St. Stephen Rectory (Attention: Religious Education/ Deborah Blicharz). For more information, please contact Deborah Blicharz, Director of Religious Education at deborahblicharz01@gmail.com or at 508.383.5419. UPCOMING PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS The next Saint Stephen Parish Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11 at 6:30 pm in the Saint Stephen Rectory. The next Holy Family Parish Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 17 at 6:30 pm in the Monsignor Ducharme Center. The responsibility of a parish council is to advise, discuss and offer solutions to challenges facing the parish community. ARE YOU CALLED TO SERVE AS AN ALTAR SERVER, LECTOR OR EXTRAORDINARY MINISTER OF HOLY COMMUNION? Every liturgical gathering invites the ministry of various ministers. The celebration of Mass should never be one where one, two or three persons do everything. Rather the liturgy envisions a wide distribution of roles and responsibilities. This more faithfully reflects the Body of Christ within which there is a diversity of ministries and roles. We would very much like to increase the number those who assist either as Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers and Readers. A sanctuary full of ministers at Mass reflects a vibrant, growing community of faith. If you feel that this might be a good way of serving your parish, please call either parish office. We will be happy to prepare you for your ministry. Or, feel free to contact our Director of Liturgical Formation and Training, John Paul Bellerose at johnpaul31@hotmail.com. INTERESTED IN BECOMING A CATHOLIC? DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO EXPLORE THE CATHOLIC FAITH? Holy Family and St. Stephen Parishes invite you to prayerfully consider exploring the Catholic Faith and becoming a fully initiated member of the Church. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process by which the Catholic Community welcomes those seeking full communion in the Catholic faith through the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. It is an open-ended process of inquiry, learning and preparation. A period of discernment and instruction in the beliefs and practices of the Catholic faith is provided for nonbaptized persons, persons baptized in another Christian tradition and for baptized Catholics seeking to receive First Eucharist or to be confirmed. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a Catholic or if you are a Catholic who would like to complete your initiation, please contact Mary Sanning at 508.754.6722 or mcsanning@gmail.com.
