rd 3 5 June 6-7, 2015 Genesis 1; Philippians 4:6 th Creation God made everything out of nothing. Adventure Bible (pp. 2-3, 1306) Connect Time (20 minutes): Five minutes after the service begins, split kids into groups and begin their activity. Large Group (30 minutes): Begin 20 minutes after the service starts. Model what it looks like to be engaged in large group. Small Group (10 minutes): Keep kids in small groups until parents arrive. If you all have extra time at the end, you can review the video and songs together. As kids leave, encourage them to tell their parents what they drew on their colored notecard, and why they drew it. This is kids first weekend in a new room! Be sure to welcome kids in, show them around and let them know how glad you are to meet them. Also, to really get to know each other, Connect Time should be longer than normal. Spend extra time on the intro questions and the activity. Begin Large Group 25-30 minutes after the service start time. Today, we re talking about how God made the whole world out of nothing. It reveals His immense power over everything and helps us understand that part of our relationship with him should be one of worship, honor and total awe.

GOAL: Connect Time is all about engaging kids in an activity that allows them to connect with each other right away while simultaneously piquing their curiosity for Large Group and preparing their minds for what they re going to hear. CREATING GAME *Break kids into small groups. Since it s kids first day in your room, introduce yourself. Ask kids to share: o o (1) their names (2) the coolest thing they ve ever made (out of paper, dirt, blocks, Play- Dough, etc.) Tell kids we re going to make something today. It doesn t matter what it is. Give them 1 roll of toilet paper, aluminum foil, blank sheets of paper, 3 paper bags, tape, and markers. Then let them go! o o They must build as a team. If they need help, you can encourage them to build something specific, like something tall or something useful. But only give them hints if they really struggle to get going on their own! Debrief: o What did you make? Why? o Was it hard to figure out what to make? Why or why not? If you have extra time, ask kids to share the best and worst parts of their week. Before you go to Large Group, remind kids of the expectations for Large Group behavior: (1) be kind, (2) listen when somebody speaks, and (3) follow the leader s instructions. *Keep the objects in your small group area in case you have extra time and kids want to create something after they finish their small group activity.

Goal: Kids will (1) understand that God made everything, (2) recognize how amazing it is that he made it from nothing and (3) praise him for being our Creator. Why? Knowing God is our Creator can ultimately help us surrender to him. Tip: For the month of June, really focus on helping kids learn Philippians 4:6. You ll see more games to help you do that, but for now, take the time to read it and have kids repeat it multiple times. REVIEW THE STORY 1. What was it like before God created the world? 2. How did God create everything? 3. What did God think of the world he created? 4. What do you think it would have been like to live in the perfect world? 5. If God is our creator, how should we act toward him? ACTIVITY: THANK YOU PLAN Pass out index cards (let kids choose a color) Kids should draw their favorite thing God created. Share. Encourage them to keep this somewhere they ll see it every day and remember to say, Thank you God. PRACTICE THE VERSE With whatever extra time you have, practice Philippians 4:6 (verse card). Write it down on a small white board and have kids read it. Erase several words and see if they can still get it. Continue erasing words until kids repeat the whole thing. *Pray together, thanking God for being a perfect creator. Extra time? Let kids build again, using the materials from Connect Time. This time, you could facilitate contests such as seeing who can build the tallest tower or create something that looks most like a car.

1 Remember, it s Move Up Weekend! Some kids are in a new room for the first time so Connect Time is designed to help kids get acclimated to one another as well as connect to the story. Start Large Group 5 or 10 minutes later than normal. June is our Science Experiment series! We ll watch one science experiment and go over Philippians 4:6 every weekend. Hi everybody! Welcome to Kids Club. I m so happy to see you guys here today. In fact, I see a LOT of new faces. That s because everybody in Kids Club got to move up to a brand new room this weekend. My name is and I love being a part of (age group). And get excited (refer to the title slide in the Keynote) because as you can see, we re going to have some fun in Kids Club this summer. During June, we re going to look at some crazy science experiments that will help us understand parts of God s story. But first, I want to talk about some of the crazy things you guys were making. Does somebody want to tell me what you made? (Let a couple kids share.) Wow, those sound great! And you could just make anything; there was no special thing you were supposed to build. So let s take a vote. Raise your hand if you thought it was HARD to come up with what to make (let kids vote). Raise your hand if you thought it was EASY to come up with an idea (let kids vote). OK, somebody who thought it was hard, tell me why (let one kids share). Hmm, and somebody who thought it was easy, tell me why (let another kid share). That makes a lot of sense! SCIENCE EXPERIMENT: HOW TO CREATE LIGHT (Show picture of supplies.) Now, look at these supplies. If you guys had this stuff, what would you make? Anyone have a good idea? (Let 2-3 kids respond.) Well, those are creative thoughts! But if you put all these things together properly, did you know you can actually create light? We re going to watch our first science experiment! It s a video of a guy figuring out how to turn all these things into a working light bulb. Video: Building A Light Bulb Pretty cool, huh? Can anybody tell me how that guy made a light bulb? (Let 1-2 kids try to explain.) Yeah, he took a lot of different things like batteries, tape, a toilet paper roll, and a jar and put them together in a special way.

GOD S STORY: HOW GOD CREATED LIGHT (Click to show the blank slide.) But what s this a picture of? (Let kids say: Nothing.) Yep, nothing. And what would you guys create if you had nothing? (Let kids respond.) You couldn t create anything, could you? It s impossible! But at the very beginning of time, the world was empty, just like this picture. But God loves to create things, and he wanted to make a perfect world full of wonderful things. In fact, the very first thing He made was light. But He didn t have batteries and a jar and a toilet paper roll and all the things the guy in the video had. He had nothing. We re going to watch a video about how God created not only light but also trees, flowers, mountains, fish, clouds and everything! As you watch, see if you can figure out how God created the world out of nothing. Video: God s Story / Creation Wow, so how did GOD create light? (Let kids respond.) That s right, He said, Let there be light! How did He create everything else? (Let kids respond.) Yep, He just SPOKE and things appeared, exactly as he imagined them to be. GOD IS OUR CREATOR Why do you think He could do that? (Let kids respond.) We don t really know not exactly. But we do know God is more powerful than anything we can imagine. He can do things that are impossible for us. He is our creator. Just like you guys were the creators during Connect Time. Think about that for a minute: Who was in charge when you guys were making your creations? (Let kids say: Us!) Yes, you were in charge! You were the ones deciding what to make and how to make it. And that s what God did with the world he made everything just how he wanted it. In fact, do you remember what God called the things he made? (Let kids say: Good!) Yes, He called them all GOOD. WORSHIP GOD AS CREATOR We know that everything isn t perfect now. That s because God didn t make people to just sit there like a tree or a mountain or even an animal that just waits for God to bring rain or food. He lets us CHOOSE to do what he wants us to do or not. And we all make choices NOT to do what God wants sometimes. But that s another part of the story. Today, we re just going to celebrate the way God made everything perfect in the beginning. (Imagine) To do that, close your eyes. (Let kids close eyes.) There is nothing. The world doesn t even exist. So God created everything. Beaches, mountains, grassy plains, forests, jungles. Picture your favorite place the most amazing place you ve ever been or ever seen in a picture, since most of us probably haven t been to all those places before. (Listen) When you ve got that picture, imagine animals playing (click to play the sound clip). Maybe you hear some of these animals; maybe not. But if you could swim with sharks or ride

on elephants, it would be pretty cool wouldn t it? (Keep talking as the sounds continue.) (Smell and feel; spray some Febreze.) The earth smells good and you can breath in the fresh air. You feel so peaceful, so happy. You ve never experienced sadness or pain or loneliness, so you don t even know what that s like! Now, if that seems pretty nice, just whisper, thank you because that s how God planned the earth. He made it to be perfect. (Let kids whisper; whisper with them.) Now open your eyes. GOD WANTS OUR THANKS I love to think about how perfect everything was when God first made it and how amazing God is because he made all this stuff out of nothing. It makes me want to praise Him! Telling God how great his creation is, is one way to praise him and thank him. He loves it when we do that. In the Bible, Philippians 4:6 tells us: SLIDE: Philippians 4:6: Don t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Let s read that out loud together (lead the kids, breaking it into smaller, repeatable phrases). Now let s thank God for some of the big things he s done by declaring some of the amazing things he made. To do this, stand up! (Let kids stand.) Find one other person and tell them your favorite part of God s creation, whether it s a place, animal, person or thing you love. When you ve both shared, sit down. (Let kids mingle and sit.) I heard some pretty cool things. Anyone want to tell the whole group your favorite parts? (Let 4-6 kids share.) PRAY Now let s pray, like the verse says. That means talk to God. Does somebody want to come up here and lead us in a prayer of thanks to God? (Let one kid lead the group in prayer.) WORSHIP We can also thank God by singing to him. Our first song is all about telling our creator that we are HIS. The second song is about how He s all we want and how we want to tell everyone how great God is and how he rescued us. Music Video: I m Yours Song: Tell the World *Dismiss kids to small groups
