May 3, 2015 St. Kevin R.C. Church Page 2 FROM THE PARISH ADMINISTRATOR Dear Friends, I m sure that most of us are glad to see the calendar turn the page to May. The days are getting longer and warmer, and families are looking ahead to the slower pace of summer. Traditionally, May is a month dedicated to the Blessed Mother. Next weekend we will have the May crowning at the 10:00 AM Mass to honor Mary. I encourage individuals and families to pray the Rosary together. With all the atrocities going on around the world, we rely on the powerful intercession of the Mother of God to help bring about true peace. Ad Iesum per Mariam to Jesus through Mary! We congratulate the children of our community who receive their First Holy Communion this weekend. I make a special appeal to the parents, godparents and grandparents of our parish children. In this day and age, the only way that children can get to Mass on the weekend is if you bring them. It s as simple as that. If Mass is a priority for you, it will be a priority for your children. By receiving the Eucharist, we all come to understand how much Jesus loves us by feeding us with His Body and Blood. Just like regular practice makes your child a better dancer or baseball player, so, too, does the regular practice of the faith help your child to grow in his or her relationship with the Lord. Thankfully in our country we can freely practice our faith without any threat or danger; in other parts of the world, Christians are making the ultimate sacrifice because they profess their faith in Jesus Christ. They rely on our prayers and sacrifices to sustain them. Please make the practice of the Catholic faith a high priority for your family for the sake of your children s spiritual growth and well-being. We are happy to announce that Robert Mema will return to St. Kevin Parish this summer. He is excited to extend Vacation Bible School this summer to two weeks, and I am sure it will be another great experience for our children. A dedicated group of volunteers is forming, too, so please spread the news about this program with your neighbors and friends. Robert will also be involved in other pastoral activities to help him to prepare, God willing, for his future ministry as a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Please pray for Robert and all those who are pursuing a vocation to priesthood and consecrated life. On Tuesday this week, the priests of the Diocese of Brooklyn will gather with Bishop DiMarzio for our spring convocation. The young people who volunteer at the school help in many ways to aid these handicapped children. The dresses were a special treat. An additional donation of dresses went to Nicaragua to assist the nuns who care for abandoned children with special needs. A total of 75 dresses were donated to these two worthy causes. The parish is so very grateful to the ladies of the Rosary Society who not only donate their time to the parish by providing refreshments at many of our functions but to following the call of Jesus to assist those in need throughout the world. Each week a new family/household will receive the Vocation Chalice at Mass and take it home with a promise to pray for vocations during that week. Resources for prayer will be provided.
