STATE OF TENNESSEE Phil Bredesen, Governor State Capitol, Nashville, TN 37243 0001 (615) 741 20001 30 May 2005 Dear Friends: This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the memory of the noble men and women in America s Military who paid the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the freedoms we now enjoy. For more than one hundred and thirty six years we have paused on Memorial Day to honor these true Tennessee and American heroes. In this very volatile time for our nation, we should also remember the men and women in our National Guard and US military branches who are today in harm s way continuing the tradition of service set forth by generations of Tennesseans before us. I join with you today at Silver Point Cemetery in a moment of silence in remembrance of these Tennesseans, these Americans who gave their lives for our country, our state, and our way of life. Sincerely, Phil Bredesen SILVER POINT PUTNAM COUNTY, TN FALLEN AND LIVING VETERANS (Updated list from the 29 May 2006 Memorial Day Dedication) SPANISH AMERICAN WAR JULIAN, William J. ACTIVE DUTY REED, Darren United States Navy Note to report errors call: Mr. Dell Tucker 858 2757 or Mr. Gerald Mitchell at (770) 552 6035). M/Sgt. and Mrs. Gerald R. Mitchell Of widespread interest is the marriage of Miss Jean Stamps, daughter of Mrs. W. H. Stamps of Cookeville, and the late Mr. Stamps, when she became the bride of M/Sgt. Gerald R. Mitchell, son of Mrs. Nora Lee Mitchell of Cookeville and Casto Mitchell of Silver Point. The vows were exchanged on February 21, at three o clock in the afternoon at the Post Chapel, Camp Kilmer, New Jersey with Charles DiSalbo, chaplain officiating, using the double ring ceremony. The bride accented her charm and loveliness by wearing on the occasion of her marriage a smartly styled gray flannel suit, a white velvet hat pearl trimmed and lavender and black accessories. Lavender jewelry was an attractive complement and completing her attire were her flowers, a corsage of purple throated orchids. After the ceremony, Sergeant and Mrs. Mitchell left for a honeymoon trip to New York City. Sergeant Mitchell railed, February 28, en route to Izmir, Turkey where he will be stationed for twenty four months serving with the Military Mission there. Mrs. Mitchell, who is secretary to the president, Tennessee Poly Technic Institute, will be with her mother until the early summer when she will join her husband in Izmir. He recently returned from a tour of duty in Korea. Serving with the Signal Corps, United States Army for several years, he has also been on foreign duty in France, Germany and Japan.
