From Our Pastor: Fr. John Sasse Welcome to our Catholic parish family Dear Parishioners, These last few weeks we have been looking at tithing and the role it plays in our spiritual lives, and our salvation, as we seek to do God s Will. Hopefully you have all been praying and listening to the Holy Spirit and what he is inspiring you to do. Now let s have a practical look at how tithing maps out: According to this website https://datausa.io/profile/ geo/dane-county-wi/ the median* household income in Dane County Wisconsin is $70,796, and the median individual income is $53,667. If we take our offertory collection from last week and divide it by the number of regular givers we come to the current average gift to the parish is $15.75 per week, $819.32 per year, which is 1.2% of the median household income and 1.5% of the median individual income. Yearly Median Household Income Tithing 10% Yearly Per month Per Week $70,796 $7,079.60 $589.97 $136.14 Giving 6% Yearly Per month Per Week $4,247.76 $353.98 $81.68 Giving 3% Yearly Per month Per Week $2,123.88 $176.99 $40.84 Yearly Median Individual Income Tithing 10% Yearly Per month Per Week $53,667 $5,366.70 $447.23 $103.20 Giving 6% Yearly Per month Per Week $3,220.02 $268.34 $61.93 Giving 3% Yearly Per month Per Week $1,610.01 $134.17 $30.96 Going from 1.2% giving to 10% tithing in one year is a big adjustment, but maybe we could try to reach 3% this year and nudge up to 4 or 5% next year and in a few more years make it to where God wants us at 10%. The most important thing about giving back to God is remembering that He will not be outdone in generosity. If we are generous to God, He will always be more generous to us in return. This is the history and example that the saints of the Church give us, many of them not only gave God all of their worldly possessions (100% not just 10%) but also their whole lives and we see the amazing things He was able to accomplish through them. What we give back to God is a decision each one of us has to make in prayer and from our hearts. We want to be a Mission parish that is a worthy instrument of God s salvation for all of humanity. * Median is the average, which means that there are just as many people who make more than this as there are who make less. Please welcome Father Patrick Collins who will speak at all the Masses on behalf of Cross Catholic Outreach which was founded to create a meaningful link between parishes in America and the priests and nuns working in the Church overseas in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Central and South America. Please be generous in your response to Father s appeal. Brochures will be provided if you wish to support this worthy Catholic ministry. All women are encouraged to join the Women s Bible Study as we start the Ascension Press study Wisdom on September 13. In this study, Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith examine biblical wisdom as it relates to daily life by delving into Proverbs, Wisdom, Sirach, and Ecclesiastes. In everything from friendships to finances, from making decisions to attaining peace of mind, Scripture offers a vision for happiness and well-being. The Women s Bible Study meets on Thursdays from 9:30-11:00am. Please contact Laura Zakrzewski at if you have any questions or are interested in joining. Offertory Collections August 11 & 12 $5,139. Offertory Collection same weekend 2017 5,657. E-Tithing 5,657. Collection Year-to-date 50,986. Collection 2017 Year-to-date 56,760. Other Collections August 11 & 12 St. Hermine s Home for the Destitute $621. Building Fund Be the Solution 132. Donations to Holy Land for Nativity Scene 70. If it does not please you to serve the Lord, decide today whom you will serve As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 When we commit to serve the Lord, we must be willing to become a partner in the work of the Lord. A partner is a person who invests time in prayer every day, joyfully participates in charitable works and generously supports the parish and Church mission. If we say we serve God, we must actually do something and not merely talk about it!

August 26, 2018: Twenty First Sunday in Ordinary Time Do you love your Catholic faith and want to share it with our children? Prayerfully consider being a catechist for the 2018-19 school year. Lesson plans are provided. Contact Laurie Sabbarese, coordinator of K-8 Religious Education, to discuss becoming a catechist. (lsabbar@saintchristopherparish.com or 845-6613 ext. 7) The next 24-Hour Eucharistic Adoration begins on First Friday, September 7. We need a few more people to commit to spending a Holy Hour with our Lord. If you can help, please contact Linda Jannusch at 608-630-1986 or bjannusch@tds.net. Directories for sale in Parish Office for $10. PARISH SCHOOL NEWS A Thank You! A heartfelt thank you to all parishioners who responded to our parish-wide comment cards! We had nearly 150 responses!
