Dear Parishioners, In the Gospel passage of this Sunday, Jesus has a very pleasant exchange with a Scribe. The Scribe came to Jesus with a question which was often a matter of debate in the Rabbinic schools, Which is the first of all commandments? Jesus said, The first is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The new thing that Jesus did was to put these commandments together. No Rabbi had ever done that before. These two commandments are so connected that they should not be separated. It is not possible to love God without loving one s neighbor and it is not possible to really love one s neighbor without loving God! Yours Sincerely, Fr. Jose Shaji ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE FOR THE HOLIDAYS- NOVEMBER 10TH-11TH Our goal is to fill the Ritter Center Truck with nonperishable items for a holiday dinner. Terry Ryan, CSP The Spiritual life combines an ever-deepening practice of interior silence and service of others motivated by the love of God. Both are necessary for the spiritual journey because they cultivate a disposition of alert receptivity and openness to the guidance of the spirit. Fr. Thomas Keating, CSP, Founder of Centering Prayer. When we look at ourselves we sometimes feel that we are never enough. The Sacred Gaze is how God looks at us from his loving point of view. The contemplative life is a way to see ourselves through the gaze of the Sacred. God loves us and does not reject us or judge us for our mistakes. The contemplative path and meditation help us to let go of our negative self-image and self-judgment and get to the ground of our divine nature.
