FEBRUARY 2017 Bella Vista Baptist Church Phone: (479) 855-3748 Prayer Ministry: (479) 855-6644 E-mail: staff@bvbaptist.com www.bvbaptist.com Something to Think & Pray About by Pastor Mike McCauley I know it may be remarkably cliché to do this, but as we enter into February we are going to talk about love. The good news is we will discuss love from a different perspective than most will. Scripture tells us to Love your neighbor as yourself. With that as a starting point I ve been thinking about how we are not as important as we might think, and yet we are somehow amazingly important in God s Kingdom. I ve been calling it the importance of our unimportance. Let s begin with the perspective that will help keep our egos in check. In a poem called, The Indispensable Man Saxon White Kessinger advises us: Sometime when you re feeling important; Sometime when your ego s in bloom; Sometime when you take it for granted, You re the best qualified in the room; Sometime when you feel that your going would leave an unfillable hole; Just follow these simple instructions and see how they humble your soul: Take a bucket and fill it with water, put your hand in it up to the wrist, pull it out and the hole that s remaining is a measure of how much you ll be missed. You can splash all you wish when you enter; You may stir up the water galore, but stop and you ll find that in no time it looks quite the same as before. The moral of this quaint example is to do just the best that you can; be proud of yourself but remember, there s no indispensable man. Philippians 2:3 in the New King James we are told, Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than himself. My mom used to say to us kids at times that we were acting too big for our britches. The point then and now is the same: We all need a healthy perspective on ourselves. None of us are the center of the universe. We all need to recognize that the world doesn t revolve around us. Saying that, let s look at the other half of this equation. Psalm 139:14 says, I will praise You because I have been remarkably and won derfully made. When we look at Philippians 4:13 we see, I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me. God fully intends for us to be a tool that He uses to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you Matthew 28:19-20. If one reads these verses too quickly, they could get the wrong impression many do. We can do all things. We can be difference makers and world changers. We are remarkably and wonderfully made but don t let that go to your head. The credit for that goes to our Creator. Therefore, the verse begins, I will praise You I CAN do all things, BUT only through Him who strengthens me. Likewise, I can be a difference maker and a world changer, but only as I yield myself to God and allow Him to work through me. You are amazingly important in the Kingdom of God. Never shrink from that! You are so very needed, yet you are not indispensable. This is, the importance of our importance. How are you doing at keeping this balance? It s Something to Think About, Michael McCauley

Adult choir has begun again and we will be rehearsing new music to share in worship. In February, we will begin working on our Easter presentation for this year. This year is going to be a little different. We will be leading a Maundy Thursday service. As you can tell by the name, it takes place on the Thursday before Easter. It is a solemn service that focuses on Page 5 by Pastor Robert McGee Jesus last supper with the disciples. There will be several choir numbers involved and I hope to get some soloists, dramatic reading, instrumentalists, and others involved. I believe this is something very unique and has the opportunity to bless our community and all those involved. Please be in prayer about how you can be involved.
