Big Objections - I Would Believe But You Christians are such hypocrites! November 11 th, 2018 I Peter 3:15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, ESV Responses to the Accusation of Hypocrisy: 1. We are to individually examine ourselves to see if it is true for us? Matt. 7:3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, Let me take the speck out of your eye, when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. 2. Christianity stands or falls on the person of Jesus. 4. Our hypocrisy (our sinfulness) proves we need a savior and we need forgiveness. 5. It is because of Jesus that we now have a target to aim at. 6. We need to stop majoring on morality, instead be seeking Christ allowing Him to change our lives. Eph. 4: 17 Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds 22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him. 3. We need to admit that we still struggle with sin. James 3:1 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. 2 For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.
