September 18, 2016 Basic Truth: God loves me. Key Question: Who can you trust? Bottom Line: I can trust God. Memory Verse: Trust the Lord with all your heart. Proverbs 3:5, NCV Bible Story Focus: I should go God s way. Jonah Jonah 1:1 3:10 Make It Stick Choose two or more of the following activities to help make the Bottom Line stick. Lead the activities with small groups of children. Encourage children to play on their own if they do not wish to take part in an activity. 1. Pin Jonah What You Need: One picture of Jonah per child with a piece of folded tape on the back. A picture of a large whale, attached to the wall. Before the Activity: (Point to the whale.) WOW! That is a really big fish! (point to the picture on the wall) That is like the fish in our story today. During the Activity: God told Jonah to go God s way and Jonah did not listen. Instead of going where God told him to, Jonah sailed in a boat on the ocean! God sent lots and lots of rain and Jonah ended up in the water! Do you remember what happened next? (Pause.) YES! God sent a HUGE, GIGANTIC fish to swallow him up! (Give the children the Jonah cutouts.) Can you put Jonah inside the fish s tummy? (Allow the children to put the cutouts on the fish.) Great job! Jonah was really sorry that he did not go God s way and he prayed and told God he was sorry. God told the fish to SPIT him out! After the Activity: Jonah was sorry he did not go God s way and so he decided to make a better choice. He went God s way! Yay, Jonah! Jonah trusted God just like we can trust God. Who can you trust? [Bottom Line] I can trust God! Curriculum Materials for 2-year-olds 2016 Orange. All rights reserved. www.thinkorange.com 4
2. Rolling Jonah What You Need: Large laundry basket and a medium-sized ball Before the Activity: Place the basket on the side so that the opening is facing the activity area. Explain to the children that the basket is the whale and the ball is Jonah. Line the children up in a single file line about six feet in front of the basket. Today our story said that Jonah was INSIDE the fish. Let s see if we can roll the ball INSIDE the basket. During the Activity: (Give the first child the ball.) Now try to roll the ball into the basket. Great try! Now let s give our friends a chance to try! (Continue with the activity until each child has had at least one turn.) After the Activity: Great job getting the ball INSIDE the basket. Today Jonah was INSIDE the big fish! Jonah did not trust God and did not go God s way at the beginning of the story. What did Jonah learn? Yes! We should always trust God! Who can you trust? [Bottom Line] I can trust God! Curriculum Materials for 2-year-olds 2016 Orange. All rights reserved. www.thinkorange.com 5
