Religious Education It s time to register for the 20182019 Religious Education Program! All families with children intending to participate are asked to register at this time. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Forms can be printed from the St. Valentine website by selecting Religious Education, CCD and Curriculum Offerings. There are separate forms for new and returning students. Participation in the Monday evenings or Wednesday evenings (6:157:45pm) programs is highly encouraged. There is a homestudy option for children in Grade 1, and Grades 37 which will require the submission of evidence of work at the end of each month with an end of the year student interview with the Director of Faith Formation. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Beginning in September, there will be a Level 1 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Atrium available for children ages 3 to kindergarten. This Montessoribased faith formation program helps children grow in their relationship with Jesus the Good Shepherd. Sessions will be offered at St. Germaine s, part of our Parish Grouping, on Tuesday morning from 10:0011:30 and Tuesday afternoons 1:00 to 2:30. Registration forms are available in the rectory. This program is a collaboration of all the parishes in our grouping and space will be limited. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults This is a process of prayer, study, and decision for adults who wish to become Catholic, and for baptized Catholics who have not received First Communion and/or Confirmation. Don t we expect God to be patient, compassionate, loving, merciful and wise? Don t we trust that God will provide for our needs, bestow peace in our hearts and be a source of courage and strength? Saint Paul, then, urges that our lives reflect these virtues and more so that others will know that God is alive in the world. The context of this responsibility of faith is that we do it as beloved children of God, as beloved sisters and brothers. While family life is not always easy or without its challenges, the family is the most fundamental structure of love and support in our world. We seek to reflect the love of God as husbands and wives, parents and children, aunts and uncles. And as a family of faith this love must flow through us for others as we build up the Kingdom of God. Our Catholic faith has different vocational paths one can choose through prayer and discernment with God. God is calling each of us to a specific vocation in our lives in order that we might grow deeper in holiness. Ask yourself, am I being called to priestly vocations, religious or married life? Psalm 34: 23, 45, 67, 89 Today and for the next two Sundays, in response to the Bread of Life discourse from the gospel of John, we will sing Taste and see the goodness of the Lord. Our singing declares that we have heard the words of Jesus about the Bread he brings, and we have believed. We know that the journey of discipleship is long and difficult, but that God will provide us with the nourishment we need to go on. Jesus reveals this nourishment to be his very flesh, given that we might have eternal life. Those who listen to him and believe will taste and see this goodness he offers. If interested, please contact Kyle Davies. Diocesan Choir Auditions Auditions for the 20182019 Diocesan Choir season will soon be held. The Choir, under the direction of Fr. Jim Chepponis, Music Director for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, sings for the major Diocesan events at St. Paul s Cathedral throughout the year. Currently there are openings in the soprano, alto, tenor and bass sections. In addition to being good singers, potential members must be capable sightreaders due to a limited rehearsal schedule, and at least 18 years of age. Rehearsals are held at St. John Capistran Church in Upper St. Clair. Audition times may be scheduled by calling Doris Anne in the Diocesan Music Office (4124563042) before August 21st. 9
