Pastor s Corner Worship and Spiritual Life One of the things that I did at my last parish that seemed to work really well for both me and the parish was to hold drop in times for parishioners on Fridays. Up in Bellingham I actually ran it as drop in confession times during all-day Adoration with the availability for people to talk about anything they wanted as well, if they didn t want to go to confession. It worked because we already had all day Adoration on Fridays, so I knew we would always have at least two people in the Church adoring the Lord. It worked super well for me because it meant that, more or less, I knew where I would be and what I would be doing on Fridays from week to week. It also provided time to catch up on my own prayer and other things when no one dropped in. The parishioners loved it because it provided a time when they knew where I would be and gave them a chance to drop by and introduce themselves or talk about anything that was on their heart without having to make an appointment. I found that a lot of people have something they want to talk about for 5 to 10 minutes, but don t feel like they need an appointment because it seems so short in their mind. I m seriously thinking about starting drop in times on Fridays here in Everett. We would do them in the cry room in the church at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, to which I m planning to add a confessional screen. This would allow people to go to confession anonymously if they wanted, but I would have space for face-to-face confession, as well as simply talking if people wanted to do that. The cry room is pretty sound proof and has a nice window so that I can see Jesus in the Tabernacle; if no one is around, I can pray to my heart s content. I would love to get consistent Friday Exposition going as well, but that may take a few extra steps. I hope to get drop-in times started in October; Mary Chris at the front office should know the hours I ll be available if this is something that appeals to you and you want to make sure I ll be in before you head over to the church. The one thing to keep in mind is that sometimes there can be a line so you may have to wait your turn. This helps build patience and teaches people how to share, kind of like the swing set when we were kids. I plan on being around this coming Friday for a good amount of time, so if you want to drop by, feel free. Prayers Always, Fr. NEXT WEEK S READINGS for October 21, 2018 29 th Sunday in Ordinary Isaiah 53:10-11 Hebrews 4:14-16 Mark 10:35-45 or 42-45 You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me. How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.

CRS shared this prayer with us this week. It has made my morning coffee a prayerful experience, which is a great addition to an already pleasant start to my day. Stewardship Opportunities! Here is a great opportunity to contribute your time and talent: Altar Linens at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. They need to be laundered and ironed. You pick them up after Mass and return them the following week, so the time commitment is minimal. We have only a few volunteers, and desperately need more help! You can volunteer once a month, or more or fewer times whatever works for you. Please contact Jan Marshall (425-353-4820) for more information. Volunteers are needed for the Coffee & Donuts time following the 11:30 Mass. If you would like to volunteer, please call Margaret or Don at (425)259-2611. Loving Savior, I drink this cup in one who planted the seedlings. In one who nurtured the soil. In solidarity with the one who watered the trees. In one who harvested the beans in their cherries. In one who brought the harvest to market. It has been a long time brewing, this cup. And with each sip, I pray for justice for everyone in the chain of production, particularly those whose poverty prevents them from tasting the bounty you provide. Solidarity, justice: this is our challenge. But one thing I have learned from you, Lord, is that small cups can contain great miracles. And we can all find oneness there. Amen.

October is here with the beautiful leaves and the occasional sunny day to cheer us up! Let s talk about Christmas!! THANK YOU to Tina Godfrey, who has generously offered to head up the Giving Tree project for Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish. I m sure she could use a few willing assistants. Immaculate Conception parish still needs a volunteer to head up their Giving Tree project. Won t you consider taking on this much-needed ministry? It will require a few hours in October and November for organization, probably not more than 3 per month, and then time to carry the gifts from the churches to the Parish Offices on Monday, December 17 th. Finally, a few more hours the week of the 17 th to place the gifts in large bags marked for each family. We will be adding this ministry to our Time and Talent brochures. If you are willing to help Tina or want to volunteer for the Immaculate Conception Giving Tree, please call the Parish Offices at (425)349-7014. Thank you for your consideration.
