A note from our pastor Dear Friends, May is a special time of the year. We celebrate Mother s Day and Memorial Day. But it is a time for other celebrations. We celebrate High School Graduation, the Confirmation Class joining the Church, and the Annual Conference. An important time at Annual Conference is when the new ministers are Ordained. Each year I repeat my vows with the new ministers. I encourage you to do the same May 22 th at 9:30 Liberty worship service and 11:00 am at First UMC, Quitman worship service when the Confirmation Classes join the Church. Reaffirm you commitment to Christ and His work in your life. Grace and Peace, Dick White Dear Congregation On behalf of all of the youth who participated in our annual DNOW event March 4-6, I want to say a huge thanks. Many of you prayed, volunteered or donated to ensure that this event would be one that served as a spiritual catalyst for our students; I can assure you that your efforts were not in vain. It is because of investments (both monetary and non-monetary) like this that lives are changed, and to invest in the life of a teenager is to invest the future of our church and our world. I thank you for your support of our youth ministry and hope that you continue to remember the youth and those influencing them in your prayers. Sincerely, Taylor Ory May Ushers 8:30 Service Mike & Tammy Gilmore Annette Wilbourn 11:00 Service Carolyn Manning Melissa Bashioum Wyatt Bashioum Kevan Burroughs Ben Burroughs Gary Thompson Diane Thompson USHER? LIBERTY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH : AN OLD CHURCH WITH A STRONG HEART Lines from Liberty..May 2016 Being an imperfect human, I find that my mind is often empty when it comes time to write these Lines and it has happened again. Christmas is long passed, Easter is also gone, though various activities are ongoing but are not stimulating my thoughts. Clearly, the problem is with me because on April 3 we held the Choir Camp Benefit Concert, Bake and Craft sale at the Liberty Hall. The Quitman Rings, The Liberty Bells, The Joy Ringers, supported by the Children s Choir and solo presentations from Becki Wimp and Sophie Asmussen. This was a big deal, well attended and greatly enjoyed. On April 21 we held our monthly fellowship dinner with entertainment by Johnny Magic and special invitations to friends and neighbors outside of the Liberty and First UMC congregations. Good food and good times. And even in these summer days, attendance remains high and we will soon have our Independence Day Celebration upon us. We should WAKE UP! Just following JESUS is a full-time activity, full of joy and daily anticipations! But Prayers are Always in Need.. Freida Stroud is hospitalized. So is Billy Bradshaw. Several others have had. or are about to have, serious surgeries. Some have recently improved but others have declined. We all (probably) have weaknesses in our Faith. Ask GOD for His help in all that we do. Page 7
