Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time In the raising of the young man of Nain, Luke presents Jesus as a great prophet. There are striking similarities to the miracles of Elijah and Elisha who also raised the sons of widows. Scribe of the divine compassion, Luke arranges his account in such a way as to show Jesus pity for his widow mourning her only son. Jesus fulfills the messianic hope that the blind will recover their sight, cripples walk, and the dead be raised to life (Luke 7:22). Death retreats before the one who is the resurrection and the life. God alone is the master of life and death. Therefore, Luke gives Jesus the title Lord which in the Greek version of the Old Testament is the title of God. The marvelous raising of the widow s son inspires us with great hope in the face of death. It hints at our future resurrection, which will be more than mere resuscitation. Transformed, we will participate in the very life of God. Requiescat in Pace We pray to our Father to give us strength during this difficult time. Our sincere condolences to the families of Phillip Lovato, Gregorita Sanchez, Edward Martinez, Peggy Scarton, Nicole Benavidez, Nancy Williams, Sergio Ramirez, Damon Quintana, Joe Montoya, Pete Acosta Jr., Luis Guzman, Victar Urquidez, Petronillo Jaramillo, Lupe Sturtcman, Frank Sanchez, Andrea Barela, Maria Gallegos, Noe Chavez Rest in Peace. CATECHISM REGISTRATION We are now accepting registrations for the fall. The Religious Education Office is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM 12:00 noon and 1:00 PM 4:00 PM. Please register early so we can better plan for any resources we may need for the fall. Please be sure to bring along your baptismal certificate at the time you register your child, and once again we thank you for entrusting your children to us to help supplement in teaching of the faith. HOMEBOUND MINISTRY We are called to go to people in need. Most homebound residents are unable to attend church services. We must go to them. John 3:16 tells us that God came to us in our world through His Son, Jesus Christ. Also, the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin and the prodigal son are all stories about God s love moving toward those who need it most. We are called to go into the world of the homebound residents because of the great need. We are in need of Eucharistic Ministers on Sunday, anyone interested in helping with this ministry is urged to contact Antonette Lucero at 344-5586. God Bless. PETER S PENCE It is collected in every diocese and in every parish every year and sent to the center of the church to be re-distributed as required by the need and requests that the Pope receives from every corner of the earth. This special collection will be taken up next week ( June 16). Please give generously. Thank you.
