July 2017 SFX Knights Newsletter St. Francis Xavier the Missionary Council # 10957 In Service to One, In Service to All Council Meetings held at St. Francis Xavier Parish Hall 2 nd and 4 th Tuesday s @ 7:00 P.M. 21370 Newtowne Neck Road, Compton, MD 20659 July 2017 My Brother Knights, Grand Knight s Report We will say goodbye to Fr. Dan and hello to Fr. Robert Maro this month. The Parish will have a potluck Lunch/Dinner on the 9 th to say farewell and we Knights have volunteered to help. There will be info in the Bulletin and a sign-up in the back of the church. We will once again be selling raffle tickets at Ace Hardware and we should all thank George for taking the lead on this. When George has a schedule please volunteer for an hour or two the more volunteers we have the easier the load is for everyone. Now, on a more serious note there is a book written by Archbishop Chaput called Strangers in a Strange Land. That book was reviewed in a Washington Times article on 26 June. The article printed this quote: Home anchors us. It locates us in the world. It surrounds us with the safety of love. But, the article continues: But what happens when you no longer feel at home in the place you call home? Archbishop Chaput recognizes the choice that Christians face in today s disorienting times and in a culture increasingly hostile.
Now is not the time for Christians to retreat, he argues, nor has it ever been. Brothers, we are lucky to live in St. Mary s County. Nevertheless, we Knights must continue to set the example of Christian Charity and Christian Morality. I suspect things will get crazier here in America before they get better and we Knights can be a beacon of rationality. On a lighter note these fellow brothers turn 59 this month: Larry Trader, Joe St Clair, Dale Rebarchik, Dennis Heeren and John Bond. Brothers Kevin McCarthy, Richard Harrell, Matt McLeod, and John Robusto are also celebrating birthdays. So, for now, may God bless us and help us keep up the good work we do. Together we will continue to help wherever and whenever called upon. Vivat Jesus, SK Mike Holton, Grand Knight Council #10957 From the Pastors Desk: Chaplain s Report July is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of our Savior shed upon the Cross for the forgiveness of sin. He totally emptied Himself on our behalf, for the forgiveness of our sins. It is my prayer that you have a personal devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Know that His heart is full of love and kindness to you and your families. God Bless Each And All Of You.
St. Francis Xavier Church News Spring break, summer vacation, trips with the kids, sports teams. Scout camping trips. What do they all have in common? Sunday comes around and you are away from the regular place where you go to Mass. So what s the best way to find a Mass when you are away from home? You can check the website for the diocese you will be visiting. Many have lists of Mass times by location. The go-to website for finding a Mass time is MassTimes, org. You just type the zip code you will be visiting in the box at the top, press enter, and it does the rest. You get a list of churches closest to that zip code, along with their scheduled Mass times. One note of caution, Parishes do occasionally alter their schedules, so visit the parish web site to verify the time. So there is really no reason not to go to Mass when away from home. Sometimes we have to drive 30 minutes or so, but isn t it worth it? It tells our children that worshiping God is a top priority in our lives. God doesn t take a vacation from us, so why should we take a vacation from God? Happy Fourth of July Happy Birthday!! We would like to extend our Best Wishes to the following people who are celebrating their birthday this Month. Larry J. Trader, Sr. Jul 01 Kevin P. McCarthy Jul 02 Richard L. Father Andrew White Assembly #377 District Deputy s Report My Brothers Welcome to the summer. Make time to enjoy your family in the coming weeks. Remember to be a practicing catholic every Sunday and an active Knight. Those who need our help do not get a vacation from their troubles. Be a father for good! A father to your children no matter what their age but also a father that leads the good life as an example to your children and every child that observes you in the community. Not every child has a father present in their life. Check out the website, www.fathersforgood.org, for guidance and help to be all that you can be as a husband, a father and a respectable catholic gentleman. In today s world, our children, all children need to see and experience a society that respects each other and who better than the Knights of Columbus to lead by example. People are watching you.. make us always aware, that as your knights we are constantly observed, our faith judged and our order appreciated. One Knight can make a difference, every member counts.
