He was born Jan. 15, 1943, in Fort Smith, the son of the late Morris and Stella Abshere. He was a pharmaceutical rep for Eagle One, an Air Force veteran and a member of Northside United Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jacob Edward Abshere. Survivors include his loving wife, Virginia to whom he was the love of her life for 38 years; a daughter, Rebekah Casher and husband Jody of Fort Smith; two sons, Steven Abshere and wife Misty of San Antonio and Gerry Abshere II and wife Leslie of Fort Smith; sisters, Nancy Wilson and husband Gene of Greenwood and Patricia Ellison and husband Robert of Fort Smith; brother, Phillip Abshere and wife Deborah of Fort Smith; grandchildren, Victoria Reynolds, Anna Abshere, Tracey Dean Carlton, Christopher Hutson, Zachary Abshere, Mayzie and Riley Casher. Funeral service will be held today, 10:30 a.m. at Northside United Pentecostal Church with interment at U.S. National Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Tim Sullivan and the Rev. Ron Patrick. Pallbearers will be Kenny and Brett Cypert, Monty Person, Dallas Polk, Mike Boyd, Ben Anderson, Mike Taylor, Duane Polk and David Polk. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews.
