Order of Worship Prelude All Glory, Laud and Honor Welcome and greetings Len Teague, associate pastor * Call to worship taken from Psalm 118 Leader: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the Lord. I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. Leader: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my God, and I will exalt you. Give thanks to the Lord for he is good; his love endures forever. * Hymn of praise Fairest Lord Jesus Men: Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature, Son of God and Son of Man! Thee will I cherish, thee will I honor, thou, my soul s glory, joy, and crown. Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands, robed in the blooming garb of spring: Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, who makes the woeful heart to sing. Women: Fair is the sunshine, fair is the moonlight, and all the twinkling, starry host: Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer than all the angels heav n can boast. Beautiful Savior! Lord of the nations! Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor, praise, adoration, now and forevermore be thine. text from Münster Gesangbuch, 1677; Crusader s hymn

* Prayer of adoration Missionary report Call to confession based on 1 John 1 and Luke 5 and 19 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. For Jesus said, It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost. Psalm of confession based on Psalm 130 Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord; O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared. Leader: O people of God, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem his people from all their sins. Silent prayers of confession Choral meditation From out the Depths I Cry, O Lord, to Thee Men s Ensemble and congregation Men s Ensemble: From out the depths I cry, O Lord, to thee; Lord, hear my call. I love thee, Lord, for thou dost heed my plea, forgiving all. If thou dost mark our sins, who then shall stand? But grace and mercy dwell at thy right hand. I wait for God, the Lord, and on his Word my hope relies; my soul still waits and looks unto the Lord till light arise. I look for him to drive away my night, yea, more than watchmen look for morning light. Hope in the Lord, ye waiting saints, and he will well provide; for mercy and redemption full and free with him abide. From sin and evil, mighty though they seem, his arm almighty will his saints redeem. text from The Psalter, 1912; sandon

Assurance of God s pardoning grace based on Acts 13 and Ephesians 1 Through Jesus Christ the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. In Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. * Hymn of assurance 706, vv. 1, 3, 5 Jesus Lives, and So Shall I Worship in the giving of God s tithe and our offerings Offertory Nearer, Still Nearer Men s Ensemble Nearer, still nearer, close to thy heart, draw me, my Savior, so precious thou art. Fold me, O fold me close to thy breast, shelter me safe in that haven of rest, shelter me safe in that haven of rest. Nearer, still nearer, nothing I bring, naught as an off ring to Jesus my King; only my sinful, now contrite heart, grant me the cleansing thy blood doth impart, grant me the cleansing thy blood doth impart. Nearer, still nearer, while life shall last, till safe in glory my anchor is cast; through endless ages, ever to be, nearer, my Savior, still nearer to thee, nearer, my Savior, still nearer to thee. text by Lelia N. Morris; arr. Fred and Ruth Coleman * Doxology 731 * Prayer of dedication and thanksgiving * Scripture reading from Mark 11:1-11 Rob Witcher (9:30) p. 1572 in pew Bible and text printed in the bulletin Adrianne Carroll (11:00) This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Prayer of preparation for the study of God s Word

The King faithfully initiates the public declaration of his rule. Fulfilling Scripture (vv. 1-6) Ruling creation (vv. 1-6) Watching carefully over his Kingdom (v. 11) 2. The people favorably but superficially respond to his rule. Words of praise (vv. 9-10) Gestures of honor (vv. 7-8) 3. The King tenderly weeps over those opposed to his rule. (Luke 19:39-44)

Mark 11:1-11 1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2 saying to them, Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks you, Why are you doing this? tell him, The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly. 4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, 5 some people standing there asked, What are you doing, untying that colt? 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest! 11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve. MEMBERS & VISITORS - PLEASE REACH OUT TO US!
