Craig Dear Parishioners, Today is Veterans Day. We honor and pray for our veterans and thank them for their service to our country. It is also the feast day of St. Martin of Tours. He followed in the footsteps of his dad and entered the military. One day while leaving the city he encountered a beggar at the city gates. He was half clothed so Martin took off his cloak and ripped it in half and gave a piece to the beggar. The other half we have today as a relic. Martin finished his duty in the military and was always interested in the Catholic Church and was baptized. He was a follower of St. Hilary. He later would be ordained a Bishop. We ask for his intercession for all our service men and women. Our youth group will be doing a fundraiser to help raise funds for this summer s service trip. They plan on traveling to St. Louis to do a week of service. Please help them with this fundraiser. We just sent 9 junior high kids to a workshop in Chicago and they came back filled with the Sprit. We are lucky to have such a great youth program. The Archbishop has begun to work on parish assignments for next year. I am completing my 6 th year which is the end of my term. I can ask to stay for another six. I have written the Archbishop and asked to stay longer. I am waiting for his response. Have a great week. Fr Craig Change to our CARE program St. Pius X/St. Leo School will stop selling CARE certificates by the end of the year. St. Leo is going to continue the CARE program with all proceeds going to our parish. Beginning November 15, we will have a new supply of CARE cards and will begin selling them for St. Leo Parish. We will still carry all of your favorites, so plan to do your Thanksgiving and Christmas shopping using St. Leo CARE. The school will continue selling their CARE certificates until the end of the year or until they run out. A note about current CARE generic gift certificates: If you have a generic CARE gift certificate that you can use to purchase any of the CARE gift certificates, please note that November 13 will be the last day you can redeem them at St. Leo Church. After that, you will need to go to the school office to redeem them. Thank you. Come sing Christmas with the Children's Choir! Sign up permission slips are at the Celebrate and Serve table near the kitchen, or at the office or at stleo.net/childrens-choir. 02 l St. Leo Catholic Church

Veterans Day Dear God, you have called your people to many walks of life. Some like St. Francis were called to a life of peace and others to the life of a soldier and warrior. David, the Maccabees, Sts. Joan, George and Martin all were called by you to take up arms in the service and protection of their citizens. On this day, bless those who have given their time, talents, and in some cases their lives, to protect our freedoms. Guide them in their tours of duty. Comfort the wounded and their families. Remind us to appreciate their sacrifices. Turn the hearts and minds of our leaders and our enemies to the work of justice and a harvest of peace. +Amen. Blood Drive November 26 12:00pm-6:00pm at St. Leo The American Red Cross Blood Drive will be here Monday, November 26 from 12:00pm-6:00pm. To donate, visit www.redcrossblood.org. St. James said, "Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. (James 5:14-15) On Sunday, November 18 following the 12:00pm Mass, we will have the celebration of the Anointing of the Sick for all who are suffering from infirmities of mind, body or spirit or addictions. All are invited. If you are 55 or over and would like to see old friends and meet new ones and enjoy fun activities, please join our group which is made up of people from St. Pius X/ St. Leo parishes. St. Leo Christmas Angel Tree Christmas Project Once again this year, St. Leo Parish will participate in the Angel Tree Christmas program. We will provide tags with gift suggestions for children of incarcerated parents. This year, we have double the number of children s names. Tags will be available the weekend of Nov. 24 & 25. Gifts will be distributed at our Angel Tree Christmas Party at St. Leo on Saturday, December 15, from 1:00-3:00pm. The project is promoted by Angel Tree: A Program of Prison Fellowship. Thanks to the volunteers and Religious Education students who are already making party table centerpieces and decorating party craft angels. Due to the overwhelming response last year, only one gift Angel will be available per family. We were able to get more tags this year, so more people will be able to sponsor a child. The tags will contain the child s name, age and a message from the incarcerated parent. There is a $20 limit. Volunteers Are Needed to Help Make This Program A Success! 1. Volunteers are needed to make a follow-up phone call to children s caregivers about the December 15 party or home gift delivery 2. Volunteers are needed to distribute gift Angels to parishioners after Masses on November 24 and 25 To be an Angel Elf and volunteer to help prepare and put on our Christmas Project, contact the parish office or Linda at 402-350-1788 or lleary1@cox.net. Next week's Collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) needs your help. Next week, our second collection will be for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Over 46 million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports programs to empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to lift themselves out of poverty. By supporting this collection you give people a hand up, not a hand out. Learn more about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at www.usccb.org/cchd/collection. Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, We hope you are doing well and have had a blessed and restful week. As some may have read or heard, Father Flanagan was declared a Servant of God by Archbishop George J. Lucas in March of 2012, officially opening the process to determine sainthood. With the support and guidance from our wonderful 7th grade teachers, our St. Pius X/St. Leo School seventh graders had an opportunity to complete a Father Flanagan pilgrimage in October when they visited Boys Town. During that morning, students walked in the footsteps of Father Flanagan, learning about his life and praying for his sainthood cause. They also prayed for those who live and work at Boys Town. The pilgrimage concluded with Mass at Dowd Chapel. This pilgrimage continued the students study of the saints lives that is part of their Confirmation preparation. Students later had an opportunity to write about their experience. Thank you to our 7th grade teachers for all their guidance for our students and we wanted to share the following quotes are from some of those students reflections. - It was a great experience because I got to learn about Father Flanagan who may become a saint. This pilgrimage helped me a lot in the end to think about boys who have nothing and realizing how lucky I am. Jack J. - It really made me think about saints and Father Flanagan. Tanner K. - He [Father Flanagan] lived out the message of Jesus by helping boys in need when no one cared about them, and he loved them like they were his own sons. Saniah S. St. Pius X/St. Leo School Help support St. Pius X/St. Leo School At the Panera Bread Restaurant night WHEN: Wed, Nov 14, 2018 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm WHERE : 7825 Dodge St, Omaha, NE 68114 Bring this bulletin or show an electronic version to the cashier when you place your order and Panera Bread will donate a portion of your purchase to our school. Thank you for supporting SPSL School! Learning about Father Flanagan really made me consider all the little things I could do to help someone feel a little love. Madeline H. The idea that no boy is born bad really stood out to me. We make wrong decisions sometimes, but no one is born a bad person. Gabe O. The effect the pilgrimage had on me was...spiritually deepening. It opened my eyes to the hardships of some people and showed me how truly incredible Father Flanagan was. Kenadie R. Father Flanagan taught me to pray to God when I m feeling sad, mad, lonely, or anything in between. He taught me that because of God and his faith, he could bring out the good in anybody. Bailey B. It is beyond awesome to say that when Father Flanagan becomes a saint, I have been in his house and walked in his footsteps. Brooklyn S. Reminder: Our annual 5th and 6th Grade Musical is coming up this week! The musical Madagascar Jr. will be held on Thursday, November 15th at 7:00pm in the school gym. We hope to see you all there for a fun night celebrating our talented students and music teachers. Join us on a Bus Tour to Kansas City in December! 08 l St. Leo Catholic Church

In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman I am sure all of us at one time or another have placed our faith in someone to do something for us and have been disappointed when they failed to deliver on their promise. Our faith in God can also be shaken if our prayers appear to go unanswered. We must remember our faith in God is to accept his will, and not necessarily the answer to all our desires. Faith in our Lord is placing all our trust in His divine will and purpose. Faith is allowing our Lord to transform our selfishness and arrogance into being humble and contrite servants. Our first reading from 1 Kings gives us a good example of that humility and servant like faith. Elijah asks a widow whose going to die from starvation for food and water. The widow in faith feeds and quenches the thirst of the prophet, and is blessed for a year with food and water. Jesus in our Gospel praises a women who gave a tithe of two coins because that is all she had. This should remind us that Jesus said blessed are the meek and humble theirs is the kingdom of God. Now these scriptures do not necessary mean that the Lord requires that we give all we own away, but that we do put our total trust and faith in Him. The point of these scriptures is that whatever is keeping us from putting our total trust and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ we must be willing to give it up. Jesus gave everything up for us by dying on the cross. Our Lord will never disappoint those who place their faith in Him. St. Leo Knights of Columbus Did you know?
