years 5779 Selichot September 1 Rosh HaShanah September 9-11 Yom Kippur September 18-19 Sukkot September 24 Simchat Torah September 30 Sh mini Atzeret October 1

Once again, we come to the High Holy Day season, undoubtedly the time in our calendar year with the greatest spiritual potential and significance. However, as with most matters of consequence, the Holy Day season also reinforces an undeniable truth - the benefit and meaning one derives ultimately correlates directly to the thought, energy, and time one is prepared to invest. With sincere attention and focus on the aspects of our lives where a fresh start, a different attitude, or a new approach is needed, I genuinely believe the High Holy Days and Jewish New Year hold tremendous potential and promise. Perhaps imagining renewed depth and closeness in some of our most cherished relationships is motivating - with a spouse/partner, with one or more of our children, with a parent or sibling from whom we ve drifted apart, or with a friend or colleague with whom we ve had a falling out. Perhaps a recognition of a need for better self-care is inspiring committing to regular exercise, taking advantage of more opportunities for learning, being more cognizant of diet, or adopting a mindfulness practice such as meditation or yoga. Or perhaps an assessment of how we might better prioritize our time is energizing, enabling us to participate and be truly present for the relationships and the activities that we know will enliven and animate our spirit. Each of us has personal goals and life aspirations. We all recognize the potential for growth and change that are within our reach. Might this New Year be the one that finally inspires and motivates us to realize the boundless potential for renewal and promise in our lives? I pray that 5779 will be replete with the blessings of good health as well as the genuine satisfaction and joy which come from realizing and living our best selves! Shanah tovah u metukah Wishes for a good and sweet New Year, Rabbi Ron Segal Important Deadlines July 23 - Guest Ticket Form Deadline (Guest ticket requests submitted after this date will be available to pick up at Temple Sinai) August 10 - Special Assistance Seating & Parking Form Due August 13 - Yizkor Memorial Book Form Due September 1 - Youth Program Registration Due September 1 - Erev Rosh HaShanah Dinner Registration Due 2 Mishkan HaNefesh, Holy Day Prayer Book A reminder that High Holy Day Prayer Books will be provided for all services. Parking For the High Holy Days Parking Guideline Reminders Parking at the Temple Sinai lot will only be available to congregants who are wheelchair or walker-bound or who have mobility challenges AND who request a Parking Permit. There will not be open parking in the Sinai lot. To request a Parking Permit, please complete the form on page 14. Buses will unload/load on the side of the building to ease congestion. See the map on page 15. There will also be a dedicated drop off/pick up location at Temple Sinai for congregants/guests and can be used for any ride-sharing service Important Changes for 2018 The new lot - The Dupree - is located on the corner of Dupree Drive and Powers Ferry. We will no longer be using the VOYA lot. See the map on page 15 for parking lot options. Parking for the Yom Kippur afternoon services (starting at 3:30 pm) will ONLY be available at Kairos Church, the NW Unitarian Universalist Church and at Temple Sinai with an appropriate parking permit. Due to limited space, the guidelines will be strictly enforced. Parking in the Temple Sinai Lot Helpful Tips The Rosh HaShanah 9 am service is our most heavily attended service. Consider coming to the 1:30 pm service if your schedule permits. Parking and seating are both easier to navigate at this service. Consider taking an Uber or Lyft to services. We have a dedicated drop off/pick up zone. Parking Permits must be requested in advance and are available for individuals who are wheelchair or walkerbound, or who have significant mobility challenges. A parking attendant will park and retrieve cars for all individuals with a Parking Permit. Please pull up to the main entrance upon arrival. All Permits will be distributed in advance of the Holy Days and must be visible through your windshield when you enter the driveway and while your car is parked on our lot at all times. Satellite Parking All congregants/guests without a Parking Permit and who are not dropping off individuals should proceed directly to a satellite lot for parking. Buses will be available at the satellite lots beginning 90 minutes before each service to bring congregants to our building. Please allow sufficient time to park, board a bus, and travel to Sinai prior to the start of each service. We strongly encourage the use of carpools or Uber/Lyft. For more information, please contact the Temple Sinai office at 404-252-3073 or hhd@templesinaiatlanta.org. 3

Selichot September 1 Selichot Saturday, September 1 The High Holy Day season truly begins with the evening of Selichot. As we prepare to begin the New Year, Selichot provides a reflective and spiritual setting in which to contemplate the ways we elected to live the year that is ending, as well as to cultivate new ideas about life and possibilities for the year ahead. During our Selichot observance at Sinai, we will gather for compelling learning with a guest speaker followed by our moving, meaningful, and brief candle lit service in the sanctuary during which we will change our Torah covers to their Holy Day white mantles. 7:30 pm Wine and Dessert Reception- $10/person, or $5 for young adult members (32 & under), reservations required. 8:15 pm Guest Speaker - Professor Gregory Ellison 9:00 pm Selichot Service Rosh HaShanah September 9-11 The 5 Hardest Questions: An Evening with Emory Professor Gregory Ellison 8 The Rev. Dr. Gregory C. Ellison, II joined the Candler faculty in 2009. I the Eternal am your God. - Leviticus 23:22 As Jews, we are commanded to care for the less fortunate - not just in word, but in deed. With the blessing of a New Year and the introspection of Yom Kippur upon us, we are reminded of our Covenant, and of our obligations to others. Your donation of food and/or toiletries will ensure the year begins with blessings for so many in our community. How to donate: Donation bags will be available at Temple Sinai on Rosh HaShanah. Grab a bag (or 2 or 3!), fill it with suggested food items and toiletries, and return it to the temple on or before Yom Kippur. We rehearse the following Wednesdays, July 25, August 1, 8, 15,29, 30, and September 5 and 12. This is a great opportunity to combine a love of music with a love of Judaism in a way that lifts our entire congregation in prayer. For more information, email bschafer@templesinaiatlanta.org. If you are available to volunteer, please visit our website to RSVP. Volunteers Needed Be a Hero - Serve as part of the High Holy Day Shammashim!
