Need to Know Important Information L Shana Tova! The High Holy Days will soon be upon us and we look forward to that inspirational time of personal and communal renewal. We especially appreciate the warmth of our services, as our entire Temple Solel community comes together in our sanctuary. In this booklet, you will find all the information you need to fully participate in our High Holy Days worship. We will continue to offer double services on the first day of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur morning. We urge you to complete all the enclosed forms and return them to the Temple office by Monday, August 27. 2018. In keeping with religious practice, tickets will not be sold at the door. For your comfort, arrive promptly for all services and do not save seats except for the driver of your car. We ask that you do not enter the sanctuary while the Ark is open or the congregation is standing. To minimize disruption, please do not leave until the end of services. Parking Information To allow easier parking access, time your arrival as per the service schedule. Our ushers will direct you as you enter the parking lot. If you need to park in one of our spaces marked Handicapped, please have your handicap placard in your car window. Remember that our ushers are volunteers, treat them courteously. Off-site parking during the High Holy Days will be available at Mira Costa College. There is a shuttle bus available from Mira Costa College. The bus picks-up and drops-off at the front gate of Temple Solel. This has proven to be one of the easiest ways to ease the parking overload during the High Holy Days. PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO PARKING AVAILABLE ACROSS THE STREET AT ABERNATHYS RANCH. 2

Special Services and Events S lichot The High Holy Days Season begins Saturday, September 1, 7:00pm This S lichot service is the perfect way to prepare for the Jewish new year and for the approaching Days of Awe. Several days before Rosh Hashanah, Jews around the world begin to recite the S lichot, a beautiful series of penitential prayers and meaningful liturgy. Please join the Solel community in our courtyard for a casual and warm evening of personal reflection through song, text, and sharing our own stories. Service will begin with Havdalah. RSVP requested to jbricker@templesolel.net. Simchat Torah Service Monday, October 1, 10:00am Shemini Atzeret-Simchat Torah Service with Yizkor Calling All College Students On Rosh Hashanah morning, Monday, September 10, the last aliyah at both the early and late morning services will be for all of our returning and/or visiting college students. Please encourage your child to attend and participate! Tashlich for adults and families Rosh Hashanah Monday, September 10, 4:30pm Open to the Community You shall cast all your sins into the depths of the sea Micah 7:19 On the afternoon of Rosh Hashanah, it is the custom to go to a body of running water, such as the sea, and perform Tashlich. Part of the ceremony consists of turning our pockets out and shaking them free of any dust or crumbs that may be in them. This symbolizes our desire to cast away our misdeeds and begin the New Year with a clean record. Join us for Tashlich at Moonlight Beach, Encinitas. We will post our Temple Solel banner on the beach. Bring a picnic dinner, beach chairs, blankets and celebrate the New Year with your Temple Solel Family. Dress is casual. Olim Food Drive Please help us begin this new year in a meaningful way. Once again the Olim High School Youth Group would like your participation at this time of rejoicing, reflection and repentance by supporting the High Holy Days Food Drive. Last year through the congregation s generosity, Olim was able to donate over 8000 pounds of food to the Jewish Family Service Hand Up Food Pantry and the Encinitas Community Resource Center. Olim Youth Group members will be handing out empty grocery bags after both Rosh Hashanah and Kol Nidre services. We ask that you take it home and fill it with the following non-perishable food items: Canned Tuna, Peanut Butter, Dried Beans, Oatmeal, Pasta, Canned vegetables, Canned soups, Toiletries, Diapers and return to us. Donations for this project will be accepted at Temple Solel during Rosh Hashanah through Yom Kippur. For many families, the bag is filled with the food that they will not be eating on Yom Kippur. Not only will this benefit our community, but it will also make a national impact. We thank you for your continuous support and ask that you assist us again. 3
