page 2 Co- Welcome to Dear Friends in Christ: Welcome to the Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist A WITNESS OF BELONGING It s hard to believe, but summer is already beginning to wind down! It s been a wonderful few months here at St. John s from the Co-Cathedral Mass of Elevation, to our first high school mission trip, to Vacation Bible School, all the way to Camp Summit! Our youth of all ages have had a lot of awesome opportunities to encounter God in exciting ways and to grow in their Catholic faith, and I know I speak for the entire Formation Team when I say that I m thankful for those who have participated and encouraged our children in their journey with the Lord! Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Our parishioners, the parish staff and I, as rector, hope that your visit to our church will be a prayerful time while at the Mayo Clinic or while you are visiting our city for any other reason. We encourage you to consider Co-Cathedral of the St. John the Evangelist as your church away from home. If we may serve you with any of your needs please do not hesitate to contact us at the Parish Center. Also, please know that the Mayo Clinic offers a chaplaincy service while you are in the hospital and it is possible for communion to be brought to you every day by you talking to the hospital staff and placing a card outside of your door. The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is available by request. The Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Community is committed to proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ as we partner with the city and our neighbor, the Mayo Clinic. If you have recently moved to our city and desire to join the parish community, please find a form on our web page or stop by the Parish Center and register as a member. Together we pray that the Holy Spirit will lead us in being a welcoming Catholic community. Fr. Jerry Mahon Rector With summer coming to an end, you might be wondering what the next steps are for your children in their faith lives as they prepare for another year of school. Well, I have an answer for you--faith Formation! Next week you should be receiving a letter in the mail from the parish that will have a note of welcome from our Formation Team as well as our registration form to get your children signed up for another awesome year. Our classes meet on Wednesday nights from 6-7PM throughout the school year and are truly life-giving opportunities for kids to experience the love of Christ. We have wonderful catechists, youth leaders, and small group leaders who will guide your children through lessons, conversations, and activities that will not only help them to learn about what it means to be Catholic, but will help them become better disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today. For those of you with children who are of age to receive their First Reconciliation and First Eucharist or Confirmation, it is especially important for you to not only register your children for Faith Formation, but to also make sure that they are sign up for Sacrament Preparation classes; this way, they will get to experience the beauty of Christ s Church even more fully and continue to take their knowledge of our Catholic faith to new levels. I have so many awesome memories from attending Faith Formation as a child. Whether it was learning about Jesus through a story or craft, singing for the elderly in the nursing home, or even just seeing some of my buddies again at church on Wednesday nights, I know that my experience with Faith Formation really helped open my heart to God and truly helped form me into the man I am today. So, whether you have young ones in preschool, children growing in kindergarten through eighth grade, second graders preparing for their First Reconciliation and First Communion, or if your kids are reaching their adult lives in the church and are approaching preparation for Confirmation, I invite you to register your children for Faith Formation. Our Formation Team is praying for you and your families as we prepare for another year of serving you. We pray that you consider registering for Faith Formation and participating in all the opportunities that our St. John s community offers you. Together we can all continue to grow in loving and serving our Lord and one another. Neal Abbott Director of K-8 Faith Formation and Youth Ministry

PRAYERFUL PILGRIMAGE SISTER ANNELLA ZERVAS, O.S.B. College of St. Benedict St. Joseph, MN Sunday, August 12, 2018, 9:30 am Please join us as we pilgrimage to the beautiful gravesite of Sister Annella Zervas, O.S.B., Servant of God, at the Convent of St. Benedict in St. Joseph on Sunday, August 12th. Sister Annella was perfectly resigned to God's Holy Will, and may justly be called an apostle of suffering. Miraculous events near her gravesite in the past few years and recent testimony of her intercessory healing have renewed efforts to re-open her cause with the hope that she might become Minnesota's first saint. The cost of the trip is $10 per person. Departure is from the St. James Coffee parking lot Sunday, Aug. 12th, at 9:30 am with a return to Rochester by 8 pm. Please alert family, friends, and your prayer groups to this wonderful pilgrimage opportunity and call (507) 990-7864 before Aug. 5th for more information and to reserve your spot.
