Offering food and drink brought out more Brothers and wives along with guests than in the previous years, I guess this is the way to go for future installations. Our First Annual Golf Outing was a great success that will be remembered for some time. The event raised more money than any other activity in our tenyear history. The good news is that there is no reason why we can't surpass that success with additional support. And remember, you don't have to be a golfer to contribute. Our Parish Picnic was another event that was successful in the eyes of all those that attended and participated, making it another winner for our Council. Last month s Oktoberfest Party exceeded our expectations. It was sold out almost three weeks before the cut-off date. Continued on Page 2

Continued from Page 1 So, with everyone contributing their time and energy, we will continue to strengthen our Council and move forward to the greater good. We are now in the month of November with Thanksgiving just a few weeks away. It is a time of year to reflect on all things that we are truly grateful for. I greatly appreciate your support in the coming months ahead, and look forward to bigger and better things for our Council. Vivat Jesus, Francis Macchiaroli, Grand Knight The Value of Membership Referrals As a professional insurance agent, one of the things I appreciate most is when one of my brother Knight clients or his wife refers another member to me. This is a great endorsement of the service I provide. It tells me that they were so pleased with what I helped them accomplish that they want me to help others achieve the same level of financial safety and security. When I meet with you, please pass along the names of those who might be able to benefit from the analysis that I provide. Similarly, there is no stronger membership recruiting tool than the referral. How many of us know an eligible Catholic male who is not a member of the Knights of Columbus? Do you have Catholic family or friends, local or not, who have yet to join? Most likely, they ve never been asked and don t know enough about the Order to seek out membership on their own. If you have names of potential members, please pass them along to me or your Grand Knight. Let us know if we can use your name when we contact the gentlemen in question. It s always more effective to tell a candidate for membership that he was recommended by a current member, especially someone he knows. Don t worry if the candidate is outside the area I serve or beyond the district of the local councils, we can make sure we put these future members in touch with the right people in their communities. New members are the lifeblood of the Order. All the good deeds done by the Order are driven by the members. Over the past decade, Knights have given more than $1.55 billion to charity and provided in excess of 673 million hours of service. And our membership has merely scratched the surface in North America. Imagine the potential. November Meetings Schedule Changes In case you didn t notice the Council calendar on page one of this issue of the SWORD, please be aware that our normal, first Monday of the month Business Meeting date has been changed. We will be conducting the Business Meeting on the second Monday, November 12 th. The start times for both the Officers Meeting and the Business Meeting remain unchanged, 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM, respectively. Also note that there ll be no Social Meeting for the month of November. Peace, Brother Paul Pittari, SWORD Editor Oktoberfest Party Our Oktoberfest Party was a major success with the event netting a profit of $4634. After certain refunds and cancellations, there were 235 attendees. There weren t any real complaints, except a few table mix-ups. and it appears that everyone had a great time. The DJ did a very good job playing music which encouraged couples to get up and dance. The food was prepared with care, and we had many food servers to assist with the distribution. Also, it was great to see that this party lasted just before 10 PM which is an indication of how successful it was. I would like to thank everyone for making this a hit, not only for us, but also for the many parishioners in attendance. They outnumbered our Council Brothers three to one. The cleanup was spot on, taking only 15 minutes thanks to everyone, including those parishioners who helped. We owe special thanks to our cooking crew, those that did the shopping for both food and drink, the ten or twelve Brothers that helped serve the food, our bartender, the registration crew at the door, and those who went around to sell additional raffles tickets. There were just too many Brothers to personally thank, but you know who you are. Assembly New Year s Eve Party Sir Knights, Our Immaculate Conception Assembly, will be hosting a New Year s Eve Party at the Nativity s Father Congdon Hall. The cost is $67 per person and is open to all Brothers regardless of Degree level and also to the public. It will be a catered affair with wine, beer soda and bottled water. You can also BYOB if desired. A ten-piece band will play dance music to welcome in the new year of 2019. A registration form is included at the back of this issue of the SWORD. Please direct any questions to Deputy Grand Knight, Rob Di Bella at 347-623-8060. Brother Paul Pittari, SWORD Editor The Pat Amabile Memorial Lyons VA Casino Party On Tuesday October 23 rd, a contingent of Council volunteers departed Nativity enroute to Lyons, NJ for our bi-annual, Pat Amabile Casino Day at the Community Living Center of the VA Health Care facility. Leading the group was event coordinator, Brother Joe Conti, with volunteers Brothers Len Caglianone, Tony Cardello, Deacon John Bertrand, Len Edson, Allan Pechko with son, Kenneth, Gene Loninger, Harry Murphy, Michael Rainsford, Sam Renda, Ron Roaldsen, Dick Roskosi, John Vergano, along with Debbie Amabile, Maureen Vergano, Mary Rockosi and Joann Casper. As in the past, seeing the smiles and words of appreciation from the 25 or 30 vets who joined in the festivities made for a very rewarding day for the volunteers, The Council contributed a total of $200 worth of coupons to all who played and additional coupons for the first six winners. After the games everyone, including some men who stopped by after the games, the staff that helped and the Council volunteers, enjoyed pizza and soda. All of us agreed that it s worth the trip and effort when we saw the vets get a chance to enjoy the games and get away from their daily routines. We look forward to going back in the spring. Blood Drive The Council held its autumn blood drive at the Nativity s Father Congdon Hall on Sunday, October 14 th. We are thankful to the 43 donors who contributed this life-giving plasma which will assist those in need of this vital fluid. Donors were treated to a breakfast of pancakes sausage, hash brown potatoes, juice, and coffee along with cookies and chips served up by our great cooking team of Brothers Joe Tardo, Joe Bruno, Rob Di Bella and Dick Rockosi. In addition to our event coordinator, Brother Peter Marino, were volunteers, Brothers Tony Cardello and Bob Panzone. We could not have had such success without the help of our volunteers. Thank you, Brother Peter Marino November 2018 Newsletter - Page 9
