ERIE, PA Our Mission Statement: Our Lady of Peace is a Catholic Community of Faith called to proclaim the greatness of the Lord through Worship, Service, Education and Ministry. Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, June 17, 2013 Without outside assistance, four out of every ten Catholic dioceses in the United States cannot offer their people basic pastoral care, provide priestly formation, or organize lay ministry training. These areas of our nation which struggle with severe poverty and lack of resources are known as our home mission dioceses. The millions of Catholics who live in these places rely on the generous support of the annual National Needs Collection. The National Needs Collection, to be taken up in our parishes this year on July 6 and 7, 2013, affords the opportunity for Catholic communities to stand in solidarity with poorer ones in our own country. This collection is actually a combination of two separate appeals: The Catholic Home Mission Appeal helps to provide essential pastoral outreach in home mission dioceses through grants. These grants support priestly and religious vocations, faith formation, and education for local leaders to equip them to meet the unique needs of their faith communities. The Black and Indian Mission Collection, established in 1884, helps to evangelize and support our African American and Indigenous communities with mission schools, religious education programs, the purchase of catechetical materials, and ministry training. Thousands of the faithful living in home mission dioceses struggle to receive basic pastoral care and catechesis. Scarce resources greatly limit the services which can be offered by these dioceses. As members of the Church of the United States, we are called to solidarity with our sisters and brothers who need our help to practice their faith right here at home. Please give generously to the National Needs Collection, and help strengthen our own local Church. Sincerely yours in Christ, + Lawrence T. Persico Peters Pence Collection - Today Today we support the Holy Father in is charitable works. The Peters Pence Collection is taken up worldwide to support the most disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters and others in need of emergency assistance. Be a pilgrim of charity - be generous in todays Collection..

OLP 31 Club Praying for vocations every day of the year! Members of the 31 Club agree to go to daily Mass on a particular day every month and offer that Mass for an increase of vocations to the Church. There is a great need for vocations in the Church today. One of the best ways to increase vocations is through prayer, and the greatest prayer we have is the holy sacrifice of the Mass. Christ, becoming obedient even unto death and because of this exalted by the Father, entered into the glory of His kingdom. To Him all things are made subject until He subjects Himself and all created things to the Father that God may be all in all. Now Christ has communicated this royal power to His disciples that they might be constituted in royal freedom and that by true penance and a holy life they might conquer the reign of sin in themselves. Further, He has shared this power so that serving Christ in their fellow men they might by humility and patience lead their brethren to that King for whom to serve is to reign. But the Lord wishes to spread His kingdom also by means of the laity, namely, a kingdom of truth and life, a kingdom of holiness and grace, a kingdom of justice, love and peace. In this kingdom creation itself will be delivered from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the sons of God. Clearly then a great promise and a great trust is committed to the disciples: "All things are yours, and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's". The faithful, therefore, must learn the deepest meaning and the value of all creation, as well as its role in the harmonious praise of God. They must assist each other to live holier lives even in their daily occupations. In this way the world may be permeated by the spirit of Christ and it may more effectively fulfill its purpose in justice, charity and peace. The laity have the principal role in the overall fulfillment of this duty. Therefore, by their competence in secular training and by their activity, elevated from within by the grace of Christ, let them vigorously contribute their effort, so that created goods may be perfected by human labor, technical skill and civic culture for the benefit of all men according to the design of the Creator and the light of His Word. May the goods of this world be more equitably distributed among all men, and may they in their own way be conducive to universal progress in human and Christian freedom. In this manner, through the members of the Church, will Christ progressively illumine the whole of human society with His saving light. Moreover, let the laity also by their combined efforts remedy the customs and conditions of the world, if they are an inducement to sin, so that they all may be conformed to the norms of justice and may favor the practice of virtue rather than hinder it. By so doing they will imbue culture and human activity with genuine moral values; they will better prepare the field of the world for the seed of the Word of God; and at the same time they will open wider the doors of the Church by which the message of peace may enter the world. Because of the very economy of salvation the faithful should learn how to distinguish carefully between those rights and duties which are theirs as members of the Church, and those which they have as members of human society. Let them strive to reconcile the two, remembering that in every temporal affair they must be guided by a Christian conscience, since even in secular business there is no human activity which can be withdrawn from God's dominion. In our own time, however, it is most urgent that this distinction and also this harmony should shine forth more clearly than ever in the lives of the faithful, so that the mission of the Church may correspond more fully to the special conditions of the world today. For it must be admitted that the temporal sphere is governed by its own principles, since it is rightly concerned with the interests of this world. But that ominous doctrine which attempts to build a society with no regard whatever for religion, and which attacks and destroys the religious liberty of its citizens, is rightly to be rejected. Good afternoon, OLP Families, Graduates, Faculty, Parishioners, and Nick Hedderick supporters, What an incredible weekend! The true meaning of community was demonstrated on Sunday at the Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser. Mrs. Ohmer was our great leader who managed the kitchen (setting up on Saturday and starting early Sunday morning at 6:00AM). She was a key asset in keeping things running at all the hot steamy cooking stations. The OLP faculty and Ms. Ek truly put forth an endless amount of energy with no mind to the clock. The OLP student volunteers surpassed expectations of service and dedication. There was an abundance of volunteers looking to jump in where help was needed. The cafeteria was in mint condition to welcome all the guests. Whether it was the anticipation of a great meal or the excitement portrayed from the bake sale, the chinese auction, the beverage stations, the auctioning of a player piano, or the generous donations, this past Sunday was a wonderful day of giving and caring. On behalf of the 2013 8th Grade Class, Thank You and a round of applause for everyone who was a part of the June 23rd OLP Spaghetti Dinner! The results first and foremost...nick was embraced by many and loved by all. We were there in the God's spirit of helping a neighbor, a friend, a classmate, a student, a genuine talented strong young man, Nick Hedderick. We were so happy to have the Hedderick Family join us for the entire day. The event was a huge success. The OLP young adults teamed together to make a difference for a dear friend and classmate. The initial monetary goal was $5,000. From the hard work of the OLP community, the total funds contributed were over $15,000! The 2013 8th Grade Class of Our Lady of Peace led the way and wanted to give more than financial support to help with medical bills, they are determined to provide strength, support and friendship now and going forward. This amazing journey is only one example of steadfast leadership and incredible mentoring that goes on at Our Lady of Peace and throughout the Erie Community. God Bless the many who exemplified generosity and unconditional love this weekend.
