12-62 BARBEE Because of time constraints I have not attempted to research the Barbee family. The compilers of A Study of the Barbee Family of Chatham, Orange and Wake Counties, North Carolina and its supplement 1 [the applicable portions follow in this compilation] appear to have done a commendable job assembling material on the ancestry of Christopher Barbee of Wake County, North Carolina. Christopher's will written 8 November 1775 and probated June 1777 in Wake County, North Carolina, mentions his daughter Martha Wimberly who apparently had children by the time of the writing of the will. 2 Martha (Barbee Wimberly was probably born about 1750 in Essex County, Virginia. About 1768 she married Lewis Wimberly. 3 Purported she died in 1799 m Pendleton District, South Carolina, after the birth of her daughter Dicca. 4 1 Ruth Herndon Shields, Belle Lewter West and Kathryn Crossley Stone, comps., A Study of the Barbee Families of Chatham, Orange and Wake Counties in North Carolina (Boulder, CO, K.
