From the Desk of Deacon Peter "Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed." I have always been intrigued by this statement from today's Gospel. Perhaps it was because I experienced the doubts of Thomas myself. I believed, but -It was only when I finally decided it was time to get serious about God, to accept the things I had doubted and to quit fighting belief with logic, that I finally lost my blindness. Once I began to see, I was able to understand. And once I began to understand, everything began to make sense. Once everything began to make sense, the logic I had used became a false illusion that had kept me from accepting the truth. Once I realized the truth, I was set free. It sounds pretty simple now, but it took a lot of effort and required the help of several true believers to get me through the doorway from darkness to light. I was lucky to be brought to them, because I would never have made it on my own. Let us all look at others with the idea that maybe we can be the light for them. All it takes is a willingness to help, the patience to listen, the love to be willing to be there for another human and the time to spend with the searcher. You can do it.
