Where Faith Comes to Life ``VISION STATEMENT ADOPTED! Session recently approved the following Vision Statement for St. Andrew s, inspired by Psalm 78:4: We will pass the faith we have received from our ancestors to the NEXT generation so they can be enthusiastically engaged in Christ s mission. N Nurturing E Engaged X Christian (XP, the Greek letters Chi Rho stand for Christ) T Transformation (Description of this NEXT acronym will be developed in due course). When you look around St. Andrew s, do you see people you don t know? Our last Photo Directory was in 2015 and since then there have been many changes to the congregation. Into the Word Palm Sunday Hosanna! John 12:12-28a, 2 Cor. 5:16-6:2 Sermon: God Sent You On Purpose! Introduction: We are presented with opportunities, and we miss them. Some Biblical characters recognized them for what they were. We are in a time of opportunity. Context: Crowds were excited. Greeks came too! Time had come. 1) Seeking Relief (v. 27) When challenged do you say I couldn t possibly do that!? Jesus embraced His mission. 2) Sweet Surrender (v. 25-26) What do you love most? (See Mt. 10:37, Jn 12:25-26, Lk.9:23f) If you re ready to settle for second best, you probably have not encounter the best! Can we surrender ourselves to His purpose? Participate in the Vision given us? 3) Saved To Serve Why are you here? For what purpose? You are uniquely equipped to fulfill His mission & the Vision He has given us. It involves us all every part of the congregation. Younger generations are looking for what mature Christians have. Your quality of life and significance improve as you embrace your calling. Conclusion: Count the cost of being a disciple. Seize the opportunity to serve. So the Word can get into you!
Drilling down God Sent You On Purpose! 1. Read John 12:12-28a, 2 Cor. 5:16-6:2 2. Consider various opportunities Christ presents you with that would bring glory to Christ. Why is it that we often let such opportunities go by? 3. Consider our Vision Statement: We will pass the faith we have received from our ancestors to the NEXT generation so they can be enthusiastically engaged in Christ s mission. Do you consider yourself already engaged in it? If so, how? If not, how do you think you could become engaged in it? 4. Do you find yourself saying I couldn t possibly do that!? Have those been missed opportunities? Even though uncomfortable, what did Jesus do? (See John 12:27). 5. From your self-understanding currently, what would it mean for you to surrender your whole self to Christ? What is your love of first importance to you? 6. How is the quality and significance of your life enhanced when you know God has a purpose for you? 7. What do younger generations need from more mature generations in the faith? 8. Consider the cost of being a follower of Jesus. What do you need to give up specifically? What do you embrace in becoming a Christian? So the Word can be applied
