St Mary s Parish, Bennekerry Sixth Sunday of Easter 10 th May 2015 A Parent s Blessing When you were born Our hearts were so full of happiness That there was no room in us For words. When you were growing Our hearts were so full of care for you That we spoke soothingly And sometimes sharply, Fearful for your safety, But always In the deepest places of our hearts We spoke lovingly. Today, As we watch you Moving forward with your friends We marvel at all you have done And become. Our spirits sing praise to God For the gift that is you. And, though our hearts Have stretched to love others, Yet, there is a place within us That is yours, and only yours Always. For the light you have shone on us, For the life you have called us to, For the special gift of God You are now, and will ever be, Thank you. Christy Kenneally

CALENDAR Tuesday 12 th :-Sts Nereus and Achilleus died in 304 under Diocletion as Roman soldiers who on conversion refused further military service. St Pancras as a boy of 14 suffered at the same time. Wednesday 13 th :-Our Lady of Fatima Thursday 14 th :-St Matthias like all the apostles was chosen to become a witness with us of Christ s Resurrection. The story of his election as one of the Apostles is given in the 1 st Reading. He seemed to have spent a great deal of time working in Judea, then he travelled East to Cappadocia (now Turkey) there it is said that he was the vital instrument in bringing many pagans to the faith. He is said to have been martyred at Calchis on the Black Sea and his relics brought to Rome by St Helena. Friday 15 th :-St Carthage (or Mochuta) hailed from a rich family in Kerry. As he loved the chanting of the psalms the local king arranged for him to become a priest. Having spent a year probably at Bangor he founded his own monastery at Rahan in 595. It grew rapidly. But opposition made him move to Scotland around 637. He with hundreds of monks and their patients from the leper colony finally arrived at Lismore, where he made a foundation. He died in 638. Saturday 16 th :- St Brendan was a Kerry man who was born in 486. He studied at Clonard under Finnian. His name is connected with many places in Kerry such as Ardfert and Mount Brandon. He united Scotland and reached the Hebrides and possibly beyond. He founded a monastery in Clonfert in 568 and died there in 578. 7

"Your Sacred Self" In a mother s womb were two babies. One asked the other: Do you believe in life after delivery? The other replied, Why, of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later. Nonsense said the first. There is no life after delivery. What kind of life would that be? The second said, I don t know, but there will be more light than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat from our mouths. Maybe we will have other senses that we can t understand now. The first replied, That is absurd. Walking is impossible. And eating with our mouths? Ridiculous! The umbilical cord supplies nutrition and everything we need. But the umbilical cord is so short. Life after delivery is to be logically excluded. The second insisted, Well I think there is something and maybe it s different than it is here. Maybe we won t need this physical cord anymore. The first replied, Nonsense. And moreover if there is life, then why has no one has ever come back from there? Delivery is the end of life, and in the after-delivery there is nothing but darkness and silence and oblivion. It takes us nowhere. Well, I don t know, said the second, but certainly we will meet Mother and she will take care of us. The first replied Mother? You actually believe in Mother? That s laughable. If Mother exists then where is She now? The second said, She is all around us. We are surrounded by her. We are of Her. It is in Her that we live. Without Her this world would not and could not exist. Said the first: Well I don t see Her, so it is only logical that She doesn t exist. To which the second replied, Sometimes, when you re in silence and you focus and listen, you can perceive Her presence, and you can hear Her loving voice, calling down from above. Dr. Wayne 8
