The Feast of Christ the King November 22, 2015 Sharon, MA Sharon, MA Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time November 15, 2015

Welcomes Our New Office Manager, Lynn Jacobs I moved to Stoughton, Mass on October 18 of this year from Troy, Idaho. I was born and raised in Genesee, Idaho, a small farming community in Northern Idaho. I have worked for the last 8 years at a Family Medical practice in Moscow, Idaho as an Authorization and Referral Coordinator. I enjoyed the patients and helping provide them with exceptional care. Back on the west coast lives my Dad, 3 brothers and 1 sister and 6 nieces and nephews. I also have been blessed with 4 step-grandchildren and 1 great grandson also living in Idaho. I enjoy biking, long walks with good friends, music and theater and I look forward to discovering new hobbies and having great adventures here on the East Coast. I am excited to join the staff and look forward to getting to know my New Faith Family at Our Lady of Sorrows. I look forward to meeting all of you and helping grow the faith community at OLOS. God has given me many amazing gifts and I appreciate this opportunity to share them and service this community. Feast of Christ the King

They will reopen on Monday, November 30 at 9:30 a.m. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone from Fr. Vinnie and the staff. Join us for Advent Evening Prayer, December 2, 9, 16 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays during the season of Advent at 7:30 p.m. in the church. Plan on giving yourself the gift of being still amidst the holiday bustle in an oasis of quiet beautiful prayer as we prepare for the Coming of the Lord. Special Thanks to Fr. Frank Clooney, SJ, and Brandt Henderson for their thought-provoking and engaging presentation on Laudato Si' last Saturday evening. The three part series will conclude on December 12 at 5:30 p.m., following the 4:30 p.m. liturgy, and focus on the Pope's call for an Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, December 8, 2015 through November 20, 2016. As we embrace our faith and gospel call throughout the Year of Mercy, one expression of our discipleship can be to deepen our sense of our proper stewardship of Creation, personally and communally. If you are interested in continuing the conversation about Laudato Si', please contact Mary Herx-Morrill at mherxmorrill@olossharon.org or 781-784-2265. November 22, 2015

Youth Ministry News 2016 Summer Mission Trip Calling all middle school students, high school students and adult parishioners to serve those in need, build community, and grow in faith by attending Just Five Days (a middle school mission trip to Springfield, MA the week of July 18-22) or Young Neighbors in Action (a high school mission trip to Worcester, MA the week of July 24-30). Spaces are limited so register by submitting a $50 deposit (made payable to Our Lady of Sorrows) to Teresa Coda by December 10. Donate Gifts to My Brother s Keeper Open your hearts this advent season and serve a family in need by picking a tag from the parish s giving tree and donating the selected gift. Tags for gifts going to My Brother s Keeper will be available the weekend of November 28 and 29. Please return all gifts the following weekend (December 5 and 6). Middle School students will bring the gifts that OLOS has collected when they volunteer at My Brother s Keeper on December 10. This is a great way to bring joy to a child and remove stress and anxiety from parents who would otherwise watch their children go without. Sign-Up to Serve at Christmas in the City Amidst the hustle and bustle of the upcoming Advent and Christmas seasons, please consider slowing down and taking time to serve those in need. Christmas in the City, a Christmas party for 3000 homeless children in the greater-boston area, is an annual event that has been well-attended and loved by OLOS parishioners for many years. It takes many hands to make this event happen, and your service is needed! If you have college-aged students coming home for the holidays, consider participating in this service opportunity as a family. (Please note that volunteers for Christmas in the City must be sixteen years of age or older. Additionally, the parish must register our volunteers, so please sign up by December 1 if you would like to participate.) You can learn more about Christmas in the City and other service opportunities and you can sign up to serve by visiting the parish website and finding the Sign Up To Serve box in the bottom right corner of the home page. Contact Teresa Coda with any comments or questions (781-784-2265, or tcoda@olossharon.org). Youth Commission Meeting All high school students are invited to attend the November 23 Youth Commission Meeting, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Bullock Center. The Youth Commission is the parish s high school youth group, and during this meeting we will be planning our annual service activity, Donuts and Bagels with St. Nick, organizing a project to raise funds to support Rolando, the child from the Dominican Republic who we sponsor, as well as socializing and eating snacks, of course! Teresa Coda with any comments or questions (781-784-2265, or tcoda@olossharon.org). OLOS Christmas Pageant 5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Liturgy We are excited to announce that the OLOS Christmas Pageant will be returning to the Christmas Eve 5pm vigil mass! All children are welcome to have a role in the pageant, which will take the place of the gospel reading. All roles are non -speaking and we have plenty of room for everyone to participate, from the children to parents that can help with rehearsals, costumes, and set-up and clean-up before and after the mass. We will have rehearsals the two Saturdays prior (December 12 & 19) from 10:00 11:00. We ask that you plan for your child to attend at least one. You can sign up here: http:// vols.pt/56rm3f or use the QR code. Hope to see you there! Donuts and Bagels with St. Nick! Join us on Sunday, December 6 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. in O'Connell Hall This event is hosted by the Youth Commission. Face painting, donuts and a special visit from St. Nicholas. All are Welcome! Sign Up for the OLOS Christmas Pageant! Fr. Vinnie is very excited to begin planning for a Christmas Pageant at this year s upcoming 5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Liturgy. If you can help with the preparations and/or your child has an interest in participating, please contact Mary Herx-Morrill directly or at mherxmorrill@olossharon.org or 781-784-2265 x 1038. Feast of Christ the King

Sharon, MA From Senior Deacon Mike Our Liturgical year (cycle B ) ends this week as the First Sunday of Advent begins the new Liturgical year (cycle C ) on Nov. 29. In preparation for the Christmas season, the church provides this interval of waiting to signal the celebration of the coming of the Lord born to Mary. Be Alert! John the Baptist is the central figure in the Gospel accounts in the two middle Sundays during Advent. He introduces the appearance of the adult life of Jesus during the Baptisms in water at the Jordan. Our church ministers vest in purple to signify the season of repentance and the Advent wreath candles are lit each week to mark the four Sundays of the interval. Be Alert! Energy Conservation Thanksgiving Eve Mass Fr. Kevin Spicer will celebrate Mass on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Please join us to give thanks to God for our abundant blessings. If you are interested in exploring possible energy conserving options for Our Lady of Sorrows, pleases contact Mary or Stan Graveline, Chair of our Facilities Commission, at graveline.stan@us.sika.com. Thank you. Collection for Retired Religious Sisters A Moment of Thanks for a Lifetime of Service Today s second collection is used to assist religious communities to provide for the retirement and health care needs of Sisters who have served in the Archdiocese of Boston. Please take this opportunity to say thank you to Sisters who have served the Church of Boston so generously for so many years. Your contribution does make a difference. Spirituality of Stewardship Receiving God s Gifts gratefully; Nurturing God s Gifts responsibly; Sharing God s Gifts in love and justice; Returning God s Gifts generously. Collection November 15 The average cost to run the parish is $9,500 per week and our expectation is that 70% ($6,700) will come from the weekly offertory. On November 15, the parishioners contributed $7,076. Want to do something special this Christmas? The OLOS Annual Christmas Party for Evelyn House is Sunday, December 13 and will feature Santa distributing your gifts, family Goody Bags, refreshments and fun activities for children and adults. This year there are 19 adults and 21 children who range in ages from three months to 18 years old. How Can You Help? Purchase a Gift or Supplies: This weekend, please take a gift tag from the Giving Tree located in the church alcove and return your gift no later than December 6. Bake Goodies for the Party Please consider baking or providing refreshments for the party. Sign up at Masses on November 21-22 or contact Valerie Fratello at (vfratello@ges.com). Be Santa Claus! Santa arrives at 4 p.m. on December 13, distributes gifts and poses for pictures with each of the 16 families with a wrap up by 5 p.m. Interested? Please contact Mary Alice Dowdell at 781-864-1382. Thank you in advance for helping to make Christmas special for these families. If you have any questions, please contact Kate Mason at 781-784-6163 or Mary Alice Dowdell at 781-864-1382. Welcome to.
