saint FRancis xavier parish November 4, 2018 You shall love your neighbor as yourself. ~ Mark 12:30 Our Mission Statement St. Francis Xavier is a Catholic- Jesuit parish ignited by the Eucharist To Pray, Serve, Do Justice, and Love.
Items of Note: Celebrating Sunday all the way home: On the way home from Mass consider asking: When do you think of God? What do you feel it means to love your neighbor as yourself? There is nothing that can replace the absence of someone dear to us, and one should not even attempt to do so. One must simply hold out and endure it. At first that sounds very hard, but at the same time it is also a great comfort. For to the extent the emptiness truly remains unfilled one remains connected to the other person through it. It is wrong to say that God fills the emptiness. God in no way fills it but much more leaves it precisely unfilled and thus helps us preserve - even in pain -the authentic relationship. ~Dietrich Bonhoeffer 2

The White Crosses Twenty-nine years ago, on November, 19 th, Ignacio Ellacuría, S.J., Ignacio Martín-Baró, S.J., Segundo Montes, S.J., Juan Ramón Moreno, S.J., Joaquín López y López, S.J., Amando López, S.J. and their housekeeper Elba Ramos, and her 15 year-old daughter Celina Ramos, were murdered at the University of Central America in San Salvador, El Salvador. saying mass in a small chapel. On March 24, 1980, St. Oscar Romero was assassinated in El Salvador while On December 2, 1980, lay missioner Jean Donovan, and three American Nuns, Dorothy Kazel, Maura Clarke, and Ita Ford were brutally murdered by members of the US backed National Guard of El Salvador. Each November, we commemorate their tragic deaths by erecting these white crosses. The lives and loss of these martyrs have significantly influenced the Ignatian family in the United States and throughout the world. Jesuit institutions have re-defined what it is to be universities, high schools, parishes, etc. in light of the martyrs, discerning new ways of addressing issues of social justice locally and abroad.
