Nourish your spirit this Lent at Evening Prayer Thursday evenings at 7:30 through April 6 th. Preaching this Thursday, March 23 rd, at 7:30 PM, Our Lady of Sorrows welcomes Rosemary Mulvihill, a Sister of Mercy, originally from Australia. With a background in education, theology and psychology, she has ministered in the Boston area for the past twenty-six years, working at St. Ann University parish in the Back Bay and in Campus Ministry at Northeastern University and Regis College. More recently, she co-founded Sacred Threads, a nonprofit organization devoted to women s spirituality, with a mission to inspire, connect and nourish women, walking with them as their journeys unfold. She is no stranger to Our Lady of Sorrows having led retreats, workshops and discussion groups at various times. However, most of all, she considers herself a fellow pilgrim on our sacred journey through life. The Church s most ancient prayer form, The Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office, is grounded in the worship of the synagogue. During Evening Prayer (vespers) we praise God in hymns and psalms, listen to sacred readings, lift up the needs of the church and the world, and conclude by singing the Magnificat and Our Father. Great care is taken to create a prayerful atmosphere with candles, incense, subdued lighting, periods of silence, and song. All are welcome to the 45-minute service. Learn more about the ministry of Sacred Threads at www.sacredthreadscenter.org Third Sunday of Lent

Children as young as five are welcome to participate in this opportunity, though a parent must join in on the trip unless the student is middle school age or older. Additionally, all participants are asked to clean out their closets, bookshelves and toy bins before attending and bring gently used donations to contribute to Cradles to Crayons' mission. Two Giving Tree Activities with Christian Services Commission: Easter Baskets Needed for Homeless Shelter Looking for a fun service project to do with your family? The Christian Services Commission is looking for your help again this year with the Easter Basket Project. We are in need of people willing to make Easter baskets for the children living at Evelyn House, a homeless shelter in Stoughton. If you would like to help, please choose an Easter egg from the Giving Tree in the alcove, the weekend of March 25-26, and put together an Easter basket appropriate for the age and sex indicated on the egg. Some suggestions for the baskets would be candy, a toy, socks, a book, a coloring book, or art supplies. Please leave the baskets under the tree in the alcove by April 9th, at the latest, so that we may get them over to Evelyn House before Easter. If you have any questions, please call Mary Ann LaHive 781-784-1394 or email at malahive@verizon.net. Easter Plants for Homebound and Recuperating Parishioners Our homebound and recuperating parishioners enjoyed the festive plants you provided at Christmas. Sharon, MA From Senior Deacon Mike: Our Lady of Sorrows Parish The readings on the third Sunday of Lent in cycle A focus on water and life. At a well, in conversation with a woman, Jesus offers this explanation of living water. Jesus answered and said to her, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst; " 3 rd Sunday of Lent What do turning off the television, doing the dishes, washing the car and folding laundry have in common? All of them are ordinary events that can become extraordinary when we do them out of love. Showing how much we care speaks volumes and puts into action what words may fail to say. Helping with chores, giving someone our full attention, or making life easier become extraordinary moments of love that mean so much to us. These are the times we remember. Taking those we love for granted is so easy to do. We can allow others to become almost invisible as we go about our own lives, sharing common space rather than our hopes and fears. We assume we will always have another opportunity, another tomorrow. That may not be the case. Focus on those you love. Turn off the TV, eliminate other distractions and help one another enjoy your time together. Share who you are and what s important to you. Opportunity comes but once and then it s gone for good. Transform your world and theirs in the moments you have now. ~James Gaffney, 2007 Karides Lic. to St. George Publishing jim@stgeorgepublishing.com Worldwide Marriage Encounter "Rise, and do not be afraid."
