Trustees' Annual Report (continued) Structure, Governance and Management Governing Document The Church is administered in accordance with the terms of the Unitary Deed Constitution. Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees The Church is administered under the terms of the Unitary Deed of Constitution whereby members of the Kirk Session are the Charity Trustees. Kirk Session members are the elders of the church and are chosen from those members of the church who are considered to have the appropriate gifts and skills. The minister, who is a member of the Kirk Session, is elected by the congregation and inducted by Presbytery. Organisational Structure The Kirk Session which meets at least six times a year is responsible for all spiritual and temporal affairs within the church. Objectives and Activities The Church of Scotland is Trinitarian in doctrine, Reformed in tradition and Presbyterian in polity. It exists to glorify God and to work for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom throughout the world. As a national Church, it acknowledges a distinctive call and duty to bring the ordinances of religion to the people in every parish of Scotland through a territorial ministry. It co-operates with other Churches in various ecumenical bodies in Scotland and beyond. Details of activities are described in "Achievements and Performance" below. 4

Trustees' Annual Report (continued) Achievements and Performance Highlights Minister's Review During 2014 as a church we have travelled together in faith and prayer as we unite to worship and serve God in the parish of St Andrews-Lhanbryd and Urquhart. Much of the year's work together has been building and strengthening our existing ministries - and there have been no major changes to record. The Sunday congregation has shown signs of numeric growth, with some new individuals making our congregation their home for worship. Our Fresh Expression of Church - Messy Church - entered its 2nd year celebrating with a birthday party. Shirley's hard work in leading the co-ordination of Messy Church planning was recognised by the Messy Church National team and she has been appointed the co-ordinator for the North East of Scotland. She has attended a conference attracting Messy Church leaders from all over the UK, Europe and North America and spoken at a mission development conference hosted by C of S Ministry Council - which has raised the profile of our congregation. Other developments have been made in our communications - with continual development of the Website and the creation of a Facebook page that performs like a real time magazine, bringing news of events in our church and developments and issues that affect the church across the world. Locally members of the church Margaret, Dittmar and Barry serve as street pastors in Elgin and I can confidently say that the involvement in this ministry will grow in It was with regret we received Sara Boyne's resignation as our community worker - we are all grateful for the years of service she has given our community. A decision regarding future strategy in the parish has been deferred until such time as we decide what form that might take to meet current needs will bring challenges as we wrestle with the problem of attracting young people and their families to the worship community. It may also mean that we have to look carefully at some of the things we do by way of worship and engagement with the unchurched/de-churched. The year that follows this will hopefully be a year of opportunity. Andrew Robertson Messy Church Messy Church meets on the first Sunday of the month from 4-6pm in Lhanbryde Community Centre. Each event is themed around a bible story supported by games and crafts which lead to a time of contemporary worship followed by a meal. It is well supported throughout the congregation both practically and prayerfully and is widely regarded as an asset to our community. Messy church is well attended by people who wouldn't otherwise choose to come to church. It has an active Facebook page which is used as a means of communication for the regulars who come along. Messy church held an information table at the Lhanbryde Primary school Christmas Fayre which was well received. The planning group consists of both church and Messy church members which is a great encouragement. 5

Trustees' Annual Report (continued) Praise Group Praise Group contributes to morning worship with gathering songs with some members providing the music at Messy church each month. We have been encouraged by attracting some new members to the group recently and hope to strengthen our complement of musicians. The group now has a wide repertoire of worship songs ranging from traditional to contemporary and are always keen to learn more. The group meets every Wednesday from pm in the small hall at the church. Worship Support Group The group has continued to support the minister in his responsibility for the content and conduct of worship. As well as undertaking the administration of the rotas for readers, organists and sound desk operators, the group has been involved in organising and supporting a number of services throughout the year. After some months in abeyance, the group was active again in the latter part of the year, with the minister as convener and Helen Barnes undertaking reporting to Session. A successful innovation has been the change of meeting times to Sunday lunchtime to facilitate the attendance of two teenage members. As well as continuing in the roles outlined above, the group has also been involved in planning home groups for the coming year. Outreach Group During 2014 the Outreach group ran a successful SOUPER SUNDAY. The great sum of 335 was raised to send to the C of S HIV programme. In May a small committee organised several events plus a door to door collection for CHRISTIAN AID. These plus seed boxes and a coffee morning at the Primary School in Lhanbryde raised over 4000! There were SATURDAY MORNING WORKSHOPS in the Village hall in Lhanbryde on several occasions: Easter, summer and Christmas, all happy and uplifting occasions. Disappointingly, the proposed Holiday Club during last Easter holidays had to be cancelled due to lack of volunteers. A small group of 3 ladies are now helping with the MUMS AND TODDLERS group in the village hall on a Wednesday Morning and our help with setting out teas/coffees and preparing and clearing away children's snacks is much appreciated. Sheila Silvestri attends Lhanbryde Community Association meetings about 3 times a year. Grant Cumming continues to do a great job in keeping our CHURCH WEBSITE up and running and recently announced in church an expansion in activities. Alastair Rossetter is our regular contact with AMANDA CHRISTIE. The group was saddened by our Community worker Sara Boyne's resignation in the summer but a great morning was held to finish her Thursday morning group, culminating in the finished Commonwealth banner being waved in St. Andrew's Road as the Commonwealth torch was paraded through the village! 6

Trustees' Annual Report (continued) Report on the Church Organisations Fellowship Group The remit of the Fellowship Group is to support the Roll Keeper, the Flower Convener, the Visiting Groups, the Safeguarding Co-ordinator, and to organise events for the congregation to have fellowship together. During the past year, we have had breakfasts before Morning Worship on a couple of occasions, soup lunches after the Service on a few occasions, and an evening of Christmas music and readings, with The Choir, Praise Group, and several members of the Congregation taking part. We have been pleased to welcome four new members onto the group. The Guild The Guild has had an interesting session with the theme of "A World to Serve/ Marjorie Clark, from World Mission, spoke about the churches work with HIV. We talked about Alternativity in November, trying to simplify Christmas celebrations. Rev. Shuna Dicks was a passionate speaker about the Guild project "Out of Africa into Malta." The Guild is a wonderful group of women who work hard together to raise funds for Guild projects. They also show love and concern for each other. Young Church & Tic Tacs We continue to face challenges sustaining contact with all our young families, as so many different things clamour for attention on Sunday mornings. However it was encouraging to have youngsters aged 2-17 years involved in our celebration of the nativity in December. This came after a year of activities when Young Church have explored the OT characters Samuel and Elijah and enjoyed learning about Jesus' parables. Everyone also had lots of fun making puppets of all of the disciples. The teenagers are now looking at the growth of the church in Philippi, and often ask challenging questions regarding faith and ways we do things in church. The Tic Tacs have had fun socially, visiting RAF Lossiemouth and toasting lots of marshmallows, and their trip to Abernethy was once more a highlight. The teenagers are especially grateful to all who help make this happen. The Thrift Shop The Thrift Shop, which has been operating for over 30 years, has had another successful year with the total of 5,932 slightly down from the previous year. The usual rota of volunteer assistants work under the guidance of Helen Fordyce who along with her husband George are to be thanked for their essential work of collecting, sorting and preparing the goods for sale. The Thrift Shop is open Tuesday mornings am and Thursday afternoons pm. In addition to these times the Thrift Shop shows a presence at most of the Primary School events and other local events. Twice a year a bookstall is held outside the Keystore, Lhanbryde. When the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal is undertaken, the Thrift Shop is involved and this year a total of 186 boxes were uplifted - 22 from St Andrews-Lhanbryd & Urquhart Parish Church, 83 from Thrift Shop and 81 from Lhanbryde Primary School. The funds raised are administered by the Session and distributed between Christian Aid and Local Charities. 7

Trustees' Annual Report (continued) Choir The Choir is in good heart and leads the Congregation in singing each Sunday. We meet most Thursday evenings in the Church Hall at 7.30 when we prepare the Hymns and Introits for Sunday services. We have 14 Choir members and always on the lookout for more. The Choir members enjoyed taking part in the Christmas Concert held in the Church in December. We have a lot of fun and laughter as we enjoy each other's company and share the happenings of the week. If you think you would like to come along and join us please contact Evelyn on Together On Friday Morning (TOFM) TOFM celebrated its 20th birthday in 2014; it still seems to draw 'girls' from our church and others. Coffee and Chat on the first Friday of the month is always a highlight, still meeting in each others' homes or going 'out and about'. On the second Friday, at the church hall, the emphasis is on 'Wellbeing'. This has proved popular with exercise, massage, manicure, relaxation and dance. Flower arrangement, yoga and music making still to come! The third Friday has been very varied. Instead of meeting at St Margaret's Hall every week there was a visit to Greyfriars Convent to meet the sisters. Very inspiring! Thanks to a kind invitation an exciting morning was held at RAF Lossiemouth - very different! The discussion group which meets on the fourth Friday is looking at 'Inspirational Women in the Bible'. These are proving fun, challenging and thought-provoking, with everyone contributing thoughts and questions. And there's more! The days at Kincraig were fun. The Good Friday service at St Margaret's - a time of quietness and reflection is always special. TOFM also contributes to Christian Aid. The year ends with a picnic lunch. Welcome! - Togetherness is Important. 8

Trustees' Annual Report (continued) Financial Review The principal source of income for the year continued to be offerings made by regular gift aid. This source of income remained almost the same as in the previous year. Open plate and non-gift aided offerings were down by 8.5% compared to A similar number of people have contributed a similar amount in gift aided donations during The tax claimed on Gift Aid is lower than that claimed in the previous year however that was due to a change in the methodology on the handover to a new Gift Aid Convenor which enhanced the 2013 claim. Total unrestricted donations for the year were up by 1% compared to Payments made from unrestricted funds for charitable activities during 2014 decreased by almost 12% compared to 2013 mainly due to a significant reduction in fabric repairs and maintenance costs. A new AV Sound System was purchased at a cost of 2,183 funded from restricted funds which had been donated for that purpose. Total receipts for the year ended 31 December 2014 were 85,011 ( ,286) and payments were 85,923 ( ,295). This resulted in an excess of payments over receipts for 2014 of (912) compared to an excess of receipts over payments in 2013 of 2,991. Reserves Policy It is the Trustees' policy to hold unrestricted reserves of approximately six months expenditure including designated funds. At the year end the Church held unrestricted liquid cash funds of 47,738 of which 2,191 had been designated for fabric fund. The current remaining balance of 45,547 represents just below eight months ordinary general expenditure. Unrestricted funds held in investments other than liquid cash amounted to 21,930. The Church also held 41,529 of restricted and endowment funds which have been provided for the purposes specified in Note 2. 9

Trustees' Annual Report (continued) Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities The members of the Kirk Session must prepare financial statements which give sufficient detail to enable an appreciation of the transactions of the Church during the financial year. The members of the Kirk Session are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which, on request, must reflect the financial position of the Church at that time. This must be done to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and the Regulations Anent Congregational Finance approved by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Church and must take reasonable steps for the prevention and/or detection of fraud and other irregularities. Approved by the Trustees and signed on their behalf, 15 March

SC Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of St Andrews-Lhanbryd & Urquhart Parish Church of Scotland, Elgin I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2014 which are set out on pages 12 to 18. Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. Basis of independent examiner's statement My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts. Independent examiner's statement In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention 1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations have not been met, or 2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
