It means a lot to me that you have confidence to put the Assembly in my trust and care for the upcoming fraternal year. Being selected Navigator is an honor and a privilege. I would like to thank our outgoing Faithful Navigator SK Frank Polczynski, Faithful Pilot SK Al Cassady, Faithful Scribe SK Anthony Heger, Faithful Inner Sentinel Ralph Blamer and Faithful Outer Sentinel Pat Fahy for the work they did this past year. In addition our Faithful Patron SK Bill Vey is stepping down after four years in that role, I would like to personally thank him I will miss the stories and the toys. At this time I would like to thank the person responsible for my success in the Knights of Columbus, both at the Council and Assembly levels my wife Lady Lucretia. She has always been my best supporter and fan. She is personally responsible for me coming back to the Church. We moved from Dayton in October of 1997 and settled into our new house and new city. My job was the same, so that wasn't a big deal, but Columbus was. The only people we really knew were the people that moved from Dayton with us as a result of DESC base closing. We joined St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and went through the routine of going to church and it was a routine church on Sunday and then home. At my wife's suggestion, and practically filling out the Form 100 for me, I joined the Knights in May 2000 and since then we have made so many new friends in our extended family. Later that year SK Joe Rossi (who took our family into theirs and me under his wing) invited me to join the Assembly and in March 2001, and to quote Joe I joined the "Best Damn Assembly in Columbus." I took the position of Faithful Scribe in June 2001 and started the road to Faithful Navigator all with Lady Lucretia's love and support. While I'm thanking people, SK Joe Rossi is always first on my list. He is directly responsible for my activities in the Knights, from the first time he asked for volunteers (we all know how Joe asks for volunteers) to work the Council Family Picnic and the Assembly Pig Roast, to nominating me for the Recorder/Scribe positions. He is a person to look up to because he loves this Assembly and the Knights. I would like to acknowledge some other people that have supported me in my endeavor to become your Faithful Navigator: Larry Bales, Frank Iannaggi, Greg Kostelac, Mark Borys, Dave Core and all of you who helped Lady Lucretia and I throughout the past 18 months. The Faithful Captains job is without argument one of the hardest jobs in the Assembly and really, what we did in the last 18 months could not have been done without your support so again Thank You!!! What I would like to see for the upcoming Fraternal year is to increase the Assemblies involvement within our communities: Bring the Assembly to the front of the upcoming Veteran's Day Parade on November 10th. Work one of the polling stations for the upcoming Elections is November. Increase our brother Sir Knight participation in Assembly functions (wakes, confirmations, fund raisers, special Masses, etc), K of C programs (RSVP, Exemplification, etc.) and as the visible arm of the Knights of Columbus, particularly patriotic functions. Speaking of upcoming functions here are a few that we will try to plan for: October 22, Circleville Pumpkin Show Parade November 10, Columbus Veteran's Day Parade November 11, (tentative) - Community Flag disposal function November 28, (tentative) - Memorial Mass honoring our departed Brother Sir Knights April Exemplification March 17, St. Patrick's Day Parade June Past Faithful Navigator's Ball July 4, Reynoldsburg 4th of July Parade Fraternally yours, Jesus V. Garcia III, Faithful Navigator

2 Captain s Report: Brother Sir Knights, Hello everyone, I am your new Captain, Dave Core, and my wife is Lady Charlene. We are pleased to have been elected to this position and glad that everyone has offered their support. With your help, we will endeavor to make this a very good year. We solicit your ideas and comments. With your help, we are going to do our best to have a fun year. The TOTM dinner for July has already been set by our past Faithful Navigator for Monday July 5th. It is going to be at the Tria restaurant, 230 W Olentangy Blvd., in Powell, Ohio This is an excellent choice. Everyone come. We will eat at 7:00 PM. For the new members, TOTM means top of the month dinner and it is open to everyone, including your wives. It is always a good time to get to know everyone on a social level. As Lady Charlene states below, we are having an Ice Cream Social at the July meeting on the 15th. So eat your dinner at home but don t ruin your appetite; save some room for Dessert when you arrive at St. Lad s. See Charlene s note for more details. Fraternally yours, David L. Core, Faithful Captain D ear Ladies, and Gentlemen, because without you, there would be no 4 th degree Ladies, D uring the June meeting, my husband, Dave Core was nominated and elected to the Captain position of the 4th degree Assembly 809. That makes me, Charlene Core, The Captain s wife! Why do I stress that? Because it is the responsibility of The Captain s wife to organize the social prior to the meeting and also to set the agenda for the ladies meetings, which are held on the same night and the same time as the Sir Knights meetings. Therefore, I would like your feedback. S ince Dave and I have been members of the fourth degree, there has always been a full potluck with a different theme each month to start the evening. But I understand that has not always been the custom. So I am asking you (and your husbands) whether you would like to continue this tradition as it has become or should we just often have desserts and let you eat before you come to the meetings? Or would you like to have a lady (or group of ladies) be responsible for supplying something to eat for a month and another lady or group of ladies do it the next month? I need your input you can contact me at , or me at core.home@juno.com. Some discussion about this will take place in July. S ince Dave is having shoulder surgery on July 8th, neither one of us will be at the next meeting. So several of the past Faithful Captain s wives have volunteered to handle the meeting. It will be an ice cream social they will supply the ice cream and each of you is asked to bring your favorite topping. But please eat before you come, as that will be the only thing served that evening. I am pleased and honored to be The Captain s Wife and hope that I can do as good a job as Lucretia Garcia has done in her tenure. I have a tough act to follow. Thanks, Lucretia, for the wonderful job you did and for the inspiration you have given me. Looking forward to hearing from you and putting your ideas into action to serve you. Lady Charlene Core, the Captain s Wife Faithful Pilot's Report: The following activities are scheduled for July request a Color Guard or Honor Guard: Sun. 7 KERKMAN MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT July 10 th is a just around the corner and will be here before we know it. It is this year s date for the Kerkman Memorial Golf Tournament. Lady Jean Bales would again like to ask for your help with this event. What are we talking about? The Kerkman Memorial is a golf outing that benefits special Olympics. This is not a 4 th degree event, per se, but we have always helped out in order to make this event a success. Therefore, Lady Jean Bales is again asking for the Fourth Degree s assistance in providing help for this year s tournament. It will be held Saturday, July 10, This is a scramble Golf outing beginning at 12:30 PM at Willow Run Golf Course with all proceeds going to Special Olympics. For the past several years, several Members of our Assembly have worked with Jean in various capacities (cooking hot dogs, preparing baked potatoes and salad, checking out activities on the various greens, etc. and our help has been greatly appreciated. Jean is trying to get enough help that volunteers will not have to work all day. Regardless of what time you work, you will be eligible for a fabulous steak dinner at the end of the day. Workers are needed from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM. So far, this tournament has donated over $150, to Special Olympics, so it s a great way to have fun and help a very special cause. So please volunteer! Please call Lady Jean Bales (H) or (W) to volunteer and find out what time you need to be there for the job you ll do. Thanks in advance for your help. Or you can Jean at Bales9393@msn.com. 8 I AM THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. MY NAME IS OLD GLORY. I fly atop the world s tallest buildings. I stand watch in America s hall of justice I fly majestically over institutions of learning, I stand guard with power in the world. Look up and see me! I stand for peace, honor, truth, and justice. I stand for freedom; I am confident, I am arrogant, I am proud. When I am flown with my fellow banners, My head is a little higher, my colors a little truer. I bow to no one! I am recognized all over the world. I am worshipped I am saluted, I am loved I am revered. I am respected and I am feared. I have fought in every battle of every war for more than 200 years. I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appomattox. I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne Forest; Anzio; Rome and the beaches of Nor mandy. Guam, Okinawa, Korea and SheSan; Siagon, Vietnam know me, I was there. I led troops, I was dirty, battle worn and tired but my soldiers cheered me. And I was proud! I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free. It does not hurt, for I am invincible. I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon. I have born silent witness to all of America s finest hours. But my finest hours are yet to come. When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield; when I am flown at half mast to honor my soldiers or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter, I am proud. My name is Old Glory! Long may I wave! Dear God in heaven! Long may I wave!
