2 FROM THE AUXILIARY PRESIDENT LADIES, I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU ALL FOR RE-ELECTING ME AS YOUR PRES- IDENT. WE HAD A VERY GOOD YEAR, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SERVING YOU FOR ANOTHER. MOST OF MY LADIES STAYED IN THEIR RESPECTIVE POSITIONS, AND I APPRECIATE THAT VERY MUCH.LET S WORK HARD TO MAKE THIS YEAR AS GOOD AS THE LAST. I CAN T PUT OUT ENOUGH KUDOS TO ALL OF YOU, BUT BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY, YOU ARE THE ONES WHO MAKE THIS ALL WORK! YOU ARE THE ONES WHO STEP UP AND MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. YOU ARE TRULY THE ONES WHO ARE THE COGS IN THE WHEEL WHEN IT STARTS MOV- ING. I CAN T DO ANY OF IT WITHOUT YOU. I M JUST THE PERSON WHO REPRE- SENTS ALL OF YOU. BUT I HAVE SOME AMAZING PEOPLE TO LIVE UP TO! NOW LET S NOT FORGET OUR BBQ SAQTURDAY THROUGH OCTOBER. FIRST SATUR- DAY OF EACH MONTH (2ND SATURDAY IN JULY) TILL AFTER OCTOBER. THIS IS SOME GOOD FOOD, GREAT PRICES, AND THE BEST PART IS...YOU DON T HHAVE TO DO THE COOKING! COME ON OUT AND TRY IT, YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED. JULY IS THE NATIONAL CONVENTION HERE IN ST. LOUIS, AND THERE IS A LOT TO DO, VOTE ON, ETC. TRY TO MAKE IT TO ST. LOUIS FOR THIS. IT HASN T BEEN HERE FOR QUITE A WHILE (1948). YOU GET THE CHANCE TO MEET A LOT OF POST AND AUXILIARY MEMBERS FROM OTHER STATES THAT YOU OTHERWISE WOULD NEVER MEET. IT COULD BE A VERY ENLIGHTENING EXPERIENCE FOR ALL OF US! I ENCOURAGE ALL AUXILIARY MEMBERS TO TRY TO ATTEND. OUR MEETINGS ARE THE SECOND TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH. I LOOK FOR- WARD TO SEEING YOU THERE. AGAIN, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO ALL MEMBERS, THANK YOU FOR BEING A MEMBER. WE KNOW WHEN YOU CAN, YOU WILL STEP UP. THOSE WHO DON T ANYMORE, THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND HELP FOR SO MANY YEARS. YOU SERVED YOUR TIME. NEVER FORGET HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE WHAT YOU DID FOR US! THOSE WHO CAN T NOW, WE KNOW YOU WILL, WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT. THE POINT IS, WE ARE ALL A PART OF THIS ORGANIZATION, AND WE ARE ALL IMPORTANT IN OUR OWN WAY. PAY- ING YOUR DUES IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS BEING AN ACTIVE MEMBER. I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAQT YOUR MEMBERSHIP IS IMPORTANT TO US, WHEETHER YOU ARE ACTIVE OR NOT. SO KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN YOU ARE DECIDING TO RENEW OR NOT RENEW. YOU WILL NOTGET A THOUSAND CALLS FROM US TO HELP, YOU WILL NOT BE HOUNDED TO COME UP HERE AND WORK. WHEN YOU TELL US YOU CAN HELP WHEN NEEDED, THAT S WHEN YOU WILL GET A CALL. NOT A MOMENT BEFORE. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE NOTIFIED WHEN SOMETHING IS GOING ON, BUT YOU WILL NOT BE CALLED FOR ANYTHING ELSE! SISTERS ALWAYS! SANDY BRACKMAN AUXILIARY PRESIDENT 2

6 REMEMBER SOME PEOPLE CALL ME OLD GLORY, OTHERS CALL ME THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER, BUT WHATEVER THEY CALL ME, I AM YOUR FLAG, THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA..SOMETHING HAS BEEN BOTHERING ME, SO I THOUGHT I MIGHT TALK IT OVER WITH YOU..BECAUSE IT IS ABOUT YOU AND ME. I REMEMBER SOME TIME AGO PEOPLE LINED UP ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STREET TO WATCH THE PARADE AND NATURALLY I WAS LEADING EVERY PARADE, PROUDLY WAVING IN THE BREEZE. WHEN YOUR DADDY SAW ME COMING, HE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED HIS HAT AND PLACE IT AGAINST HIS LEFT SHOULDEEER SO THAT THE HAND WAS DIRECTLY OVER HIS HEART..REMEMBER? AND YOU, I REMEMBER YOU. STANDING THERE STRAIGHT AS A SOLDIER. YOU DIDN T HAVE A HAT, BUT YOU WERE GIVING THE RIGHT SALUTE. REMEMBER LITTLE SISTER? NOT TO BE OUTDONE, SHE WAS SALUTING THE SAME AS YOU WITH HER RIGHT HAND OVER HER HEART..REMEMBER? WHAT HAPPENED? I M STILL THE SAME OLLD FLAG. OH, I HAVE A FEW MORE STARS SINCE YOU WERE A BOY. A LOT MORE BLOOD HAS BEEN SHED SINCE THOSE PARADES OF LONG AGO. BUT NOW I DON T FEEL AS PROUD A I USED TO. WHEN I COME DOWN YOUR STREET YOU JUST STAND THERE WITH YOUR HANDS IN YOUR POCKETS AND I MAY GET A SMALL GLANCE AND THEN YOU LOOK AWAY. THEN I SEE THE CHILDREN RUNNING AROUND AND SHOUTING..THEY DON T SEEM TO KNOW WHO I AM..I SAW ONE MAN TAKE HIS HAT OFF AND THEN LOOK AROUND. HE DIDN T SEE ANYBODY ELSE WITH THEIRS OFF SO HE QUICKLY PUT HIS BACK ON. IS IT A SIN TO BE PATRIOTIC ANY MORE? HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN WHAT I STAND FOR AND WHERE I VE BEEN?...ANZIO, GUADALCANAL, KOREA, VIETMAN. TAKE A LOOK AT THE MEMORIAL HONOR ROLLS SOMETIME, OF THOSE WHO NEVER CAME BACK TO KEEP THIS REPUBLIC FREE..ONE NATION UNDER GOD..WHEN YOU SALUTE ME, YOU ARE ACTUALLY SALUTING THEM. WELL, IT WON T BE LONG UNTIL I LL BE COMING DOWN YOUR STREET AGAIN. SO, WHEN YOU SEE ME, STAND STRAIGHT, PLACE YOUR RIGHT HAND OVER YOUR HEART..AND I LL SALUTE YOU, BY WAVING BACK..AND I LL KNOW THAT.. YOU REMEMBERED! 6
7 This is a new year for the Ladies Auxiliary and the Military Order of the Cootie Auxiliary. I would like to thank all of you who sent in your dues last year. Both organizations had a great year. All great things come to an end. It is time for me to come begging again for the dues for this year. I have to get an early start because it takes me all year to get all of the dues. It is great for those of you who are Life members of the LAVFW, but the MOCA doesn t have this. Both dues are $15.00 and can be sent to Melody Roebuck for the LAVFW or Marge Hoeltge for the MOCA dues. MELODY ROEBUCK 1583 NORWOOD HILLS DR. O FALLON, MO MARJORIE HOELTGE 1029 LAFAYETTE PLACE LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO I am thanking you in advance. Marge HERE IS THE LINK TO REGISTER TO VOTE YOUR VOTE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE Overview of Ballot Measures At the beginning of August, we will head to the voting booth to decide on a number of proposals that would make substantive changes to the Missouri Constitution. Changing the constitution is no small matter and for that reason I think it s important that we all be as educated as possible before voting on these measures. Below is a brief overview of each proposed constitutional change. I hope you will find these helpful as you look ahead to the Aug. 5 election. Amendment 1 - Right to Farm Amendment 1 will give Missouri voters the opportunity to enact a constitutional amendment affirming the right of farmers and ranchers to engage in farming and ranching practices. Known as the Right to Farm bill, it would, upon voter approval, ensure that the right of Missouri citizens to engage in agricultural production and ranching practices shall not be infringed." The amendment would prevent changes made to state law that infringe on the rights of farmers. Amendment 5 - Right to Keep and Bear Arms Amendment 5 is a proposed constitutional amendment that, if approved by voters, would reinforce the right of Missouri citizens to keep and bear arms, ammunition, and accessories in defense of their family, in addition to the current rights to protect a person s home, property, or him/herself. The amendment would also make these rights inalienable, and obligate Missouri to uphold these liberties and under no circumstance decline to protect against their infringement. Amendment 7 - Transportation Sales Tax Amendment 7 will give voters the opportunity to decide whether to pay more in sales tax in order to provide additional funding for Missouri s roads and highways. The proposed constitutional amendment would raise the state sales tax by three quarters of a cent to generate approximately $534 million annually for maintenance and construction projects for the state s transportation infrastructure. If approved by voters, the sales tax increase would take place in 2015 and be in effect for a period of 10 years. Amendment 8 - Veterans Lottery Ticket Amendment 8 will give voters the opportunity to support the creation of a new lottery ticket to raise funds for veterans programs. If approved by voters, the Missouri Lottery would create a new ticket with proceeds from sales of the ticket to be deposited into the Veterans Commission Capital Improvement Trust Fund, which is used to fund construction and maintenance for veterans homes and cemeteries in the state. Amendment 9 - Protecting Electronic Information Amendment 9 is a proposed constitutional amendment designed to protect Missourians electronic information from unwarranted seizure. If approved by voters, the state constitution would protect , cell phone data, and other electronic information in the same way it currently protects 7 the papers, homes, and effects of individuals from search or seizure without a warrant or probable cause.
