7 Biography of Sir Ellsworth George Stanton III, MBE, KSJ Ellsworth George Stanton III was born and educated in Evanston, Ill. He is a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois and pursued graduate work at Northwestern University and the Baruch School in New York City. He served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in the Philippines as a Literacy Training Instructor and played concert bass with the Manila Symphony as it was being reconstituted after World War II. Mr. Stanton was the Executive Director Emeritus of the James N. Jarvie Commonweal Service, a charitable trust administered by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), to provide services and financial assistance to the elderly in the Greater New York area. Prior to his employment with the Jarvie Service, he served the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA as Assistant General Secretary for Personnel and Business Services. He also worked for the US Committee for the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) and Care, Inc. Mr. Stanton held membership in The Brick Presbyterian Church in the City of New York, where he served as Clerk of Session for 28 years and sang in the Chancel Choir. He studied voice with the late Herbert Janssen of the Metropolitan Opera. In addition to his long history of volunteering, Mr. Stanton s interests were supporting and participating in music and the arts. He was a patron of the Metropolitan Opera Association, the New York Philharmonic Society, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Mr. Stanton also served on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Opera Guild. In addition to the above, Mr. Stanton led an active life as: A Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
