This past year has bee a time to reflect as a orgaizatio, as idividuals, ad as a commuity o how to respod to the coutless ways i which our lives are blessed by God s uedig geerosity. The year culmiated i our Imagiig Abudace gala i November, where we celebrated seve Medallio of Merit recipiets. Their lives are movig examples of what is possible whe we respod with thaksgivig for the extraordiary abudace of God by joyfully sharig that abudace to help others ad to ivest i God s promise-filled future. I a video featurig the medallio hoorees, who icluded Sady Waterfield's husbad James Waterfield, she beautifully codesed the spirit of abudace: You ca t outgive God. Biblical stories ad images also remid us that God s abudace is all aroud us. The dramatic creatio story, the lush Promised Lad flowig with milk ad hoey, the icredible feedig of the five thousad, ad the astoishig grace of God see ad experieced i Jesus Christ powerfully depict a world ifused with God s geerosity. At TmF, we have experieced those blessigs i abudace. As you will see i the followig pages, we are happy to report yet aother year of growth, edig 2016 with $525 millio i assets uder maagemet, a $20 millio icrease over Our et icome growth boosted our Udesigated Edowmet to $35 millio, a icrease of $3 millio over the previous year. Ad while maitaiig strict uderwritig stadards ad historically low deliquecy levels, our loa staff grew total loas to $343 millio, up $29 millio from ed-of-year Sady Waterfield Every gift from God comes with a call to create eve more goodess, more kidess, more uity. Durig 2016, TMF cotiued our callig to ivest our fiacial resources i churches ad groups, icludig both traditioal ad o-traditioal faith commuities, that have demostrated the courageous leadership ad iovatio required to brig about trasformative chage. We deepeed our uderstadig of ourselves ot as a istitutio, but as a livig commuity that thrives because of parters who share our goal of buildig cultures of purpose ad geerosity that ispire a spirit of abudace. We ve witessed how miistries create abudace by lookig at those they serve through a les aimed at discoverig their gifts ad talets rather tha focusig oly o their eeds. The truth of abudace is that every idividual has somethig to offer. For may people, beig treated as a cotributor ad respected as a valued resource ca be a lifechagig evet. Ad we wat to chage as may lives as possible. The gifts, talets, time, eergy, commitmet, ethusiasm ad passio are multiplied. Abudace is everywhere. I this year s aual report, we ve icluded stories about cogregatios who have received loas from us to create or expad miistries that bless ad serve others. May of those same cogregatios further share their abudace by ivestig i our methodist Loa Fud (mlf) which provides the seed moey for other cogregatios to receive loas that, i tur, eable those churches to excel i their missio ad miistry. Ad the abudace does't ed there. The MLF ot oly supports churches through loas ad competitive ivestmet returs. The operatig reveue geerated by the MLF eables TMF to offer grats, fiaces the multifaceted work of area represetatives ad our developmet team, ad provides the resources for our impactful leadership platforms. Abudace i every directio. We believe that every day is a gift. Which is why we are so grateful for the daily opportuities we have to serve others. That is abudat life. Most especially, we wat to express our deep gratitude to every door, ivestor, lay leader, pastor, cogregatio ad orgaizatio who shares our cofidece that resources, whe used to fulfill God's purposes, will always be trasformed ito abudace. Thak you for supportig our efforts ad sharig our dream, God s dream, of abudat life for all. As Wedell Berry remids us, "What we eed is here." What is your picture of abudace? How ca we help you fulfill it? KAY YEAGEr Board Chair TOm LOCKE Presidet

3 K E Y A C C O M P L I S H M E N T S ShArING OUr AbUNDANCE TMF s missio is to help others steward their potetial ad achieve their goals, whether providig a loa to reovate a codemed buildig ito a oe-stop social services ceter for a commuity desperately i eed, or gratig fuds to help a geerous El Paso couple use their fertile lad to grow fresh produce to feed over 16,000 hugry people a moth. By stewardig the potetial of the local church, the deomiatio, related orgaizatios, idividuals, as well as of TMF itself, we move a little closer to God s dreams for us ad our world. Durig 2016 TmF stregtheed our commitmet to Stewardig Potetial by: Fosterig cultures of purpose ad geerosity through a rage of fiacial, strategic discermet, ad leadership resources Ecouragig, educatig, ad supportig pastors ad lay leaders who are strivig to fid ways to cultivate courageous miistry Explorig the ways people gather i order to deepe their faith outside the traditioal structures of cogregatioal life how do we fud these services? Primarily through TMF s Methodist Loa Fud (MLF) ivestors. Last year TmF experieced sigificat loa growth of $29 millio, edig the year at $343 millio. More importatly, the expasio of TMF s loa portfolio reflects the visio ad outreach of Uited Methodist cogregatios requirig larger, improved, or additioal facilities to aswer God s call for servig their commuities. MLF ivestors, who value a ivestmet that empowers God s purposes while earig higher tha average iterest, provide the moey for those loas. but the impact of those loas ad ivestmets exteds eve further. TMF recogizes that eve if we have "eared" somethig, it is still a gift. So we use the moey accrued from et iterest margi the differece betwee what we ear from loa iterest icome versus what we pay our ivestors to provide a host of other services all focused o stregtheig the ability of churches, orgaizatios, ad idividuals to use their God-give abudace to love God ad oe aother. These services iclude: strategic discermet; clergy ad lay leader educatio, support ad resourcig; coveig coversatios; grat makig; gift plaig; edowmets; ad stewardship. OThEr ExAmPLES OF DENOmINATIONAL CONNECTEDNESS Uited methodist Developmet Fud I 2016, the Board of Directors of the Uited Methodist Developmet Fud (UMDF) selected TMF to provide operatioal support for UMDF ivestors ad borrowers goig forward. I that capacity, as of Jauary 1, 2017, TMF assumed the role of maagig aget for UMDF. TMF loa, ivestmet, ad operatios staff worked diligetly ad collaboratively with UMDF durig 2016 to prepare for this trasitio. As you kow, TMF has bee competetly deliverig similar services to our costituets sice This excitig developmet eables us to exted our exceptioal loa ad ivestmet expertise to help the Uited Methodist commuity across the coutry fid the resources they eed to create ad expad vibrat miistries. Be Strog ad of Good Courage: A Call to Quiet Courage i a Axious Time by Gil redle (2016) This moograph, origially writte for the Bishops Coclave, a ogoig TMF-hosted gatherig of the active bishops of the South Cetral Jurisdictio, has prove relevat to all leaders of the church seekig to practice active courage i the curret usettledess i which we live. Writig that courageous leadership is quiet, discerig, ad above all purposeful, Redle develops these four observatios: 1. Courageous leaders wrestle aspiratios dow to outcomes. 2. Courageous leaders disturb their systems i purposeful ways. 3. Courageous leaders keep their eye o the missio field. 4. Courageous leaders allocate resources to people. Y o u c a t K E Y A C C O M P L I S H M E N T S The gala, held o November 20, 2016, hoored these remarkable idividuals for their sigificat cotributios toward advacig the missio of TMF ad/or the Uited Methodist Church. Isights from guest speaker Kerry Robiso, author of Imagiig Abudace, reiforced the stories their lives tell that geerosity, modeled after the gracious ad uedig love of God, is abudat life. CrEATING NEW AbUNDANCE Gil redle Learig ad Leadership Edowmet Fud With sadess ad profoud gratitude, TMF accepted the well-deserved retiremet of Gil Redle from his full-time positio with TMF. The impact of his service to TMF, the Uited Methodist Church, ad to religious life is icalculable. I ackowledgemet of his uparalleled accomplishmets, TMF created the Gil Redle Learig ad Leadership Edowmet. The edowmet supports Gil s work by creatig opportuities for TMF to ope ew paths of discermet, decisio-makig, ad actio by leaders i coectio with TMF s Leadership Miistry. Durig the first few moths, doors cotributed $456,000 to the fud which ow has over $900,000 i gifts ad pledges. TmF Grats Nurture Future Abudace TMF is allocatig more ad more resources toward grats that will have impact far ito the future because they are itetly focused o improvig the lives of geeratios to come while stregtheig the istitutios that will serve them. We are privileged to support the strategic ad imagiative efforts of orgaizatios like Iterfaith Youth Core (IFYC) who is workig with McMurry Uiversity ad Texas Wesleya Uiversity to chage the public discourse about religio from oe of atipathy ad coflict to oe of uderstadig ad cooperatio. We are grateful for our gratees spirit of abudace their covictio that a brighter future is possible for those they serve. We share this covictio ad ecourage them to egage i purposeful itrospectio, evaluatio, ad plaig. This broad support has resulted i a growig umber of requests for grats, from 46 orgaizatios i 2015 to 71 i 2016.

While much of that growth has bee outward, Norther Hills recetly decided to reach back to its roots. I February 2015, the cogregatio put faith ito actio whe they decided to purchase a electric supply warehouse buildig i a eighborhood just a few miles south of the church s origial locatio. The decisio was widely supported as the eeds of its former commuity became evidet to the cogregatio. Still, it took courage ad covictio for the cogregatio to commit its spiritual, huma ad fiacial capital to servig the eeds of the commuity its church had grow away from, literally, more tha a decade earlier. We realized the may good blessigs God had bestowed o our church, explaied Norther hills Seior Pastor rev. milto Lewis. With those blessigs come gratitude, ad a desire to express that gratitude by servig others. After workig for moths to raise the fiacial resources, followed by deliberate, comprehesive discussios about services ad staffig, Norther Hills broke groud i October 2016 ad started costructio o a ew Miistry Ceter. The ew facility will iclude a multipurpose room that ca seat 200+; a chapel; a local food patry with a kitche; cliic space for health screeigs ad ursig care; ad six large classrooms. We ow a 13,000 square foot buildig i the midst of a sea of huma eed: physical, emotioal, ad spiritual. We re a small boat i a big sea. but our faith-history is of a God who accomplishes a lot with a little, Lewis observed. The ew Miistry Ceter will beefit from Norther Hills log-established parterships with other local orgaizatios i order to provide a rage of services to eighbors, icludig the Sa Atoio Food bak, the Texas Diaper bak ad methodist healthcare. We have retured to our roots with o ageda other tha to serve ad fulfill our cogregatioal missio to love the world for which Christ died, said Lewis. We ow a 13,000 square foot buildig i the midst of a sea of huma eed: physical, emotioal, ad spiritual. We re a small boat i a big sea. But our faith-history is of a God who accomplishes a lot with a little. Norther Hills UMC has bee workig with TMF sice Church leadership uderstads that the beefits of a loa with TmF make a impact beyod their cogregatio. We are very aware that the iterest we pay to TMF serves a larger purpose, said Dudley harral, Executive Admiistrator at Norther Hills. Our loa helps other cogregatios reach out to serve their commuities. It s all about furtherig miistry, ad fulfillig the visio of what could be. d i s c o v e r i g TMF has a uique opportuity to deepe the impact of creative miistries that are strivig itrospectio, coduct ogoig evaluatios to measure outcomes, ad sharpe their visios ad toward trasformative chage. We are well plas for future actio, we are ecouragig them as positioed to assist these leaders through grat makig, coveig coversatios, ad strategic plaig, as well as stewardship, gift plaig, edowmet, ledig ad ivestmet expertise. By helpig courageous leaders egage i purposeful they leave the ets of security ad covetio behid ad aswer God s call to do somethig bold ad brave. This is the kid of comprehesive support eeded to create deeper ad more loglastig impact ad chage.

The cogregatio eded up retig a facility from a equestria ceter, ad payig $1 per head for each worshiper. Today, Grace Fellowship UMC sits o a 30-acre campus, with a worship ceter, a childre s ceter, a youth miistry buildig ad a admiistrative ad meetig facility. Ad TMF has bee there every step of the way. Sice my first coversatio with David mccaskill years ago, I realized that TmF was really about relatioships, said mitch Peairso, Executive Pastor at Grace Fellowship UmC. They believed i us ad our visio for our church. Grace Fellowship s visio icluded creatig a faith commuity that shared a desire for prayer, discipleship ad outreach. The first buildig the cogregatio costructed i 1997 was ot a worship ceter, but a childre s ceter costructed o a piece of lad the church purchased adjacet to the facility they were retig. It was easy to make TmF our leder of choice for may reasos, from rates to how easy it is to work with them, Peairso described. But it s also because of the great work that is doe by ad through TMF. Workig with TMF, Grace Fellowship UMC was able to purchase a additioal piece of lad that icluded a ope-air equestria facility. The structure of colums ad beams was i good coditio, said Peairso. We literally poured a slab, put a ew roof o it, put up walls, ad threw i some cold air. Today, that horse bar is our 1,500-seat worship ceter. With a growig ad active cogregatio, Grace Fellowship has bee able to support missio efforts to reach the ureached, whether those people live earby i Housto, or are a ureached group o the other side of the world. It s also oe of the reasos the church cotiues to stregthe its relatioship with TMF. We re fortuate to have moey to ivest, ad we ve elected to ivest with TMF ad the Methodist Loa Fud. With TMF, we kow our moey is beig put to good use, whether it s fudig great programs like their Leadership Miistry or supportig groups workig to advace the Kigdom of God. We kow God has bee good to us, explaied Peairso. We re fortuate to have moey to ivest, ad we ve elected to ivest with TMF ad the Methodist Loa Fud. If your church were to close tomorrow, what would be the reactio of your commuity? The respose was a stued silece. Noe of the leaders could clearly explai why the church was importat or what it stood for. That momet of ucertaity led to a trasformatio at FUMC Grapevie. The cogregatio started by askig, Who are our eighbors? While the commuity did t feel wealthy, the cogregatio was ecoomically healthy ad stable. We had bee very iwardly focused, explaied lay leader Ed Crater. The thikig was that we were fie, so the commuity aroud us was fie. We leared quickly that we were wrog. Church leadership foud out that the surroudig eighborhood icluded a large umber of studets receivig meal assistace at school ad may families who were strugglig to live at or below the poverty lie. The cogregatio started a program called miistry mile, focused o servig ayoe livig withi oe mile of the church who would beefit from assistace. This led to iitiatives for weeked luch programs, summer youth groups, ad may more actioable ideas. The relatioship betwee FUMC Grapevie ad TMF cotiues to be strog ad productive, from fiacig for a ew sactuary to the church s ivestmets i the methodist Loa Fud.
