3 67 Joh Baptizes Jesus Mark 1:4-11 BIBLe BACKGROUND FOR LEADERS Although Siless, Jesus Requested Joh to Baptize Him The baptism of Jesus did ot represet cleasig from si, because Jesus was without si. Istead, it allowed Jesus to idetify with the people he had come to save ad sigaled to everyoe that he was differet that he had ot sied but istead had lived a life pleasig to God. This evet sigaled the begiig of Jesus earthly miistry. The Triity i the Baptism of Jesus The Jesus Coectio From the very begiig, God plaed to sed Jesus to be our fried ad to save us from the pealty of our sis. What a lovig ad gracious God! May agree that Jesus was a good ma ad a moral teacher, but Christias kow Jesus to be God s So, set by God to redeem a falle world. Jesus came to the world with all the authority, approval, ad power of God. He came for us. He came for you. Praise God today for lovig you eough to sed his So for you. You ca write your prayer here. These verses depict the Triity more clearly tha almost ay other passage i the Bible. We see all three members of the Triity i actio: Jesus beig baptized, the Holy Spirit descedig like a dove, ad the Father speakig from heave. As Jesus was begiig his miistry, God made it clear that Jesus was his So ad that Jesus was doig precisely what God wated him to do. The Holy Spirit Desceds o Jesus Like a Dove The symbolism of the Holy Spirit descedig o Jesus like a dove is very itetioal. A dove represeted both purity ad getleess. Istead of comig to harshly preach repetace as the prophets icludig Joh the Baptist had doe, Jesus came i purity ad with a message of love. After all, Jesus is God s ultimate demostratio of love, beig set to die for our sis while we were still siers (Romas 5:8). God did t speak to the crowd as he aouced his pleasure with Jesus. He spoke directly to Jesus, ecouragig him to fulfill the difficult task that lay before him. Grades 1 & 2 Lesso 6 Witer Quarter

Before leadig kids to the dishpa of soapy water, say: Remember, we re pretedig that the dirt you re holdig is si. Joh told the people to get rid of their sis. Have each child put the pottig soil back ito the cotaier. The Joh baptized the people i the water of the Jorda River. Let childre dip their hads i the dishpa of soapy water ad rub them to get rid of the dirt. After childre have dried their hads, have them sit o the floor i a circle. Washed Clea Supplies Bible dishpa of soapy water dishpa of damp pottig soil towel Teacher Pack Bible Timelie Washed Clea Easy Prep Set a dishpa of soapy water ad a towel o oe side of the room. Set a dishpa filled with moist pottig soil o the other side of the room. Talk With Kids Lead childre i this discussio. Ask: Tell about what it was like for your hads to be dirty, the to clea them i the soapy water. How does dirt remid you of si? How does forgiveess remid you of washig your hads? Say: Whe you dipped your hads i the water, you had to do somethig to get them clea. Like that, it was t the water of the river that cleaed people s hearts it was askig God to forgive their sis that cleaed their hearts. GOD SENT JESUS to make our hearts clea whe we take actio whe we ask God for forgiveess. Grades 1 & 2 Lesso 6 Witer Quarter
