2014 Annual Congregational Meeting MINUTES April 27, 2014 The Annual Congregational Meeting was called to order at 9:16 A.M. by Council President Bonnie Rudi. There were 98 voting members of Zion present. The agenda was presented for inspection by President Bonnie Rudi. There were no changes suggested. Those running for election to Congregation Council were introduced and asked to stand up. They were: James Davis, Patricia Derk, Jeannie Dettore, Ruth Hoffer, John Kiessling, Cindy Shingler, and LeAnn Weed. There were no other nominations from the floor, so nominations were closed. The tellers, Lynn Danilowicz, John Long, and Chris Ehmann, passed out ballots to those members present. The ballots were then collected and taken to be counted. Recognition was given to those retiring from Council. They were: Bonnie Rudi, Lynn Danilowicz, Chris Ehmann, Matt McConnell, and Natalie Kratzer. Action was then taken on the minutes of the 2013 Annual Congregational Meeting, submitted by Council Secretary Michael Good. The motion to approve the minutes was made by Patty Wachter and seconded by Rose Knepp. Unanimous approval was voiced to the motion. The Financial Report was then given by Treasurer Lynn Knepp. He began on page 4 of his report with an explanation of the Statement of Funds. The Unified Fund has a deficit of $18,000. The Memorial Fund has increased due to the value of our investments. The Church Music Fund is used to cover the cost of music for Zion. The Walton Fund is used to pay various expenses. The Building Fund is money from the sale of the Parish House. Council is permitted to use only $5,000 per year. The Memorial Undesignated Fund was used to purchase the new digital system this year. There was about $4,500 donated to that fund this past year. The Emergency Contingency Fund is also from money received from the sale of the Parish House. Mr. Knepp next explained page 5, which consists of the External Benevolences column as well as items in the In and Out Revenue category. The 2013 Revenue missed budget by 6%. The 5 by 5 Category showed a shortfall as well. This year so far giving is behind by 10% and the total budget by 6%. Part of this is due to attendance being down slightly. The question was raised as to why salaries are not shown individually, and if it is IRS compatible. John Kiessling made a motion that individual salaries be included as a line item. It was seconded by James Davis. Discussion followed. The Treasure continued to explain the various line items and the way in which they are calculated. Most committees and other groups were kept at or below their current budget. Gas and electric costs were higher than anticipated. Trash costs were lower due to inspection of the contract by Fran Gruber. Unexpected mold repairs had to be done. The Ministry to Others column was proposed to be cut in half for 2014 by Council. The floor was then opened for questions. It was asked if there would be a weekly statement in the church bulletin showing Zion s financial information. The answer was in the affirmative. The 5 by 5 giving program was then explained to one of the newer members. Someone asked if all of Zion s funds were explained in the Policy Manual. They are not, but are being added in the current rewrite. Another question was asked about money from the rental property could be included in the General Fund. It was answered that they do eventually make their way into the funds. They are separate items for budget purposes. The motion to approve the budget as presented was made by Cindy Shingler. It was seconded by David Ranck and was approved by unanimous voice vote. A motion was made by John Kiessling and seconded that starting with the 2015 Budget that individual staff salaries be published in the budget. The motion carried. 5

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SENIOR PASTOR: In his annual report Pastor Moritz began by comparing statistics of baseball players to pastors. He said it would be difficult because pastoral ministry doesn t easily break down into such statistics. There are many challenges, or as he says, opportunities, in the pastoral ministry to share the Word of God. Among them are hospital visitations, providing counsel for the troubled, sharing the faith with the youth, sermon preparation, comforting those who have lost a loved one, resolving problems in the church family, reading to our preschool students, baptizing a child or youth or adult, to name just a few. He mentioned that he considers it a privilege to see the Word making its way into people s lives and trying to engage us in presenting glimpses of Grace. Pastor Moritz closed by listing Pastoral Acts performed in the past year, such as funerals, baptisms, confirmations, and weddings. ANNUAL REPORT OF THE DIACONAL MINISTER: In her annual report Deacon Roscoe wrote about the process involved in the new Faith Formation program at Zion. Three priorities were identified. They were: all generations and ages actively engaged in the life and ministry of the Christian church, all ages and generations are spiritually committed, and all ages and generations growing in their faith. There were also three strategies for faith formation established. They were the empowerment of people of vibrant faith, strengthening family spirituality, and supporting lifelong faith growth. She then listed the many ways used to overhaul the traditional Sunday School model, beginning with the grand opening of Zion s new Faith Formation Center on September 8, In May of 2013, the technology team developed and submitted a five minute video telling Zion s story to the Synod Assembly. Deacon Roscoe also wrote grant requests for the Hummelstown Food Pantry that resulted in over $3,000 of financial support. She also served in numerous capacities including the Lower Susquehanna Synod Learning Ministries Team, the 2013 Synod Assembly worship team, 2013 Bishop Installation Planning Committee, on the Hummelstown Ministerium, as well as several other Synodical groups. The Deacon also attended a week long program of learning and renewal on the Duke University campus, which gave her the opportunity to interview a number of well-known professors. She closed by stating that she underwent certification through Elizabethtown College as an online instructor. ANNUAL REPORT OF THE CONGREGATION COUNCIL PRESIDENT: In her annual report Bonnie Rudi stated that it was her honor to serve the past six years on Council, five as its president. She believes that keeping of communication between Staff, Council, and the Congregation is the key to Zion s growth. The development of the ministry teams will increase opportunities for members of Zion to become involved in opportunities for members of Zion to become involved in the daily life of the Church. She thanked those who chose to run for Council, and concluded by thanking all for the support of Zion and its Council and asked for continued prayers for Council and the decisions they will make in the future ANNUAL REPORT OF ZION S PRESCHOOL: In her annual report Board President Bonnie Rudi reported that school closed in May after servicing thirteen students in the four year-old program (11 of which stayed for the kindergarten prep program) and thirteen children in the program for three year-olds. Seen children attended the program for two year-olds. In August the Preschool had five programs. The newest one was the Stay and Play program on Mondays and Wednesdays which allows students to bring lunch from home and have supervised play for an additional hour. Eleven students took advantage of this new opportunity. 6

There were a number of changes in staff this year. Unfortunately Steph Engle will not be with Zion Preschool in due to other responsibilities ANNUAL REPORT OF THE KITCHEN COMMITTEE: In their annual report Co-chairs Edith Wiestling and Pat Logan listed events in 2013 for which the committee either prepared or assisted in preparation of food. Among these were three funerals, six Lenten meals, Fasnacht Day, Music Sunday and Confirmation brunches, Advent luncheon, Deacon Roscoe s 10 years of service celebration, and the Congregational Meeting. They assisted and supported in the Mission Soup Sales, Youth Easter Breakfast, and Church Picnic. They thanked the committee members for their great support, and Jim and Shirley Davis for the produce from their garden ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SOCIAL MINISTRY COMMITTEE: In his annual report Mike Good stated that many of the initiatives of Social Ministry are successful due to the generosity of the Congregation. He then went on to list the projects undertaken by the committee in the past year. The Glove Drive sent 153 pairs of gloves up to Pastor Jody s outreach at Christ Lutheran. There were 64 blankets donated to provide warmth for those in need. Partners With Christ continued to take up a variety of donated items including health care kits, clothing, baby furniture, and many other things that give comfort and aid to Pastor Silliker s clients. The CROP Walk provided $2,140 to help feed the hungry locally and globally. Sixty-five pints of blood were donated at Zion s two Blood Drives (29 in January and 36 in August). Our annual Advent project switched to Heifer International. $360 worth of animals were purchased, and $160 worth of Fair Trade Coffee and Tea. The Food Bank continues to service more families on a weekly basis. Over 100 meal boxes were given out at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. He concluded by thanking the members of the committee for their hard work and dedication to helping others Annual Report of the Stewardship Committee: In his annual report John Long stated that giving in general and motivation to the congregation has been more emphasized. Commitment cards were not used this year. The Five by Five program was not as successful this year as in The Sponsorship Program did well, but they found that sponsorship items should be updated more often and brought to the congregation s attention more frequently. In 2013 the committee tried to promote giving in general more frequently, as well as keeping the congregation more informed of needs and areas of participation Annual Report of the Worship and Music Committee: In his annual report, David Ranck mentioned that during the year eight meetings were held regarding business related to the worship and music components of the church. This is not counting activities in which the members of the committee were engaged on a weekly basis, such as altar guild, communion sacraments, and flowers for various events to name a few. There were other things that had to be dealt with. The decorations subcommittee made new decorations to replace used for many years. They were assisted by member volunteers and paid for by individual volunteers. The committee also monitored the progress of the AWE service. It was decided that some changes needed to be made due to the stagnant attendance and physical drain on those who did the extensive work preparing for the service. A meeting will be conducted to resolve the ongoing issues. 7

Minister of Music, Sally Cummins, reported there were 123 vocal and instrumental opportunities captured by members of the church. This includes Zion s adult and youth choirs, as well as all of our supporting instrumentalist groups. The committee feels that music is a key participatory opportunity in the church, and plays an important part in our services. He closed by thanking the staff for the support they provide, as well as their creativity and energy that make Zion a desirable place to worship and praise God. NEW BUSINESS: It was suggested that an updated list of Council and Committee members be included in the Annual Congregation Report. Elizabeth Joyce read a letter from Susan Mayes about the resignation of Church Administrator Julie Gray and Financial Volunteer Nancy Hartman, and the disciplinary to Youth Director Bennett Williams. No action was taken on the letter. Ben Dettore asked Pastor Moritz about his gifts to serve the congregation and how he can help it grow. Pastor Moritz stated that he felt he had several qualities that helped him in his ministry here at Zion, patience being among them. There were several more comments made about the Church Administrator situation. Matt McConnell spoke eloquently about his feeling that there needs to be forgiveness all around in this matter. The tellers from the Election of new Council reported there was a tie for the fifth spot on Council. A runoff election showed that James Davis was the winner. Others elected to Council were John Kiessling, Ruth Hoffer, Patricia Derk, and Jeannie Dettore. The motion to adjourn was made by Dave Templin and seconded by Rose Knepp. Unanimous approval was voiced to the motion, and the meeting was adjourned at 10:23 A.M. Respectfully Submitted Michael S. Good, Council Secretary 8

Discussion Major discussion was heard for several amendments to the original Motion; however, after hearing amendments to amendments, it was decided to re-state the original Motion. o To promote healing within Zion in order to strengthen our existing ministries and contribute to our future growth. 12 Lynn Knepp explained that this year we had a reduction in staff which helped offset some of the deficit; however, that will not occur for year 2015, and he sees a deficit issue for the year Reconciliation Process Cindy Shingler, representing the church council posed the following question: What can we do today that will help us to live in peace tomorrow? She explained the following: Pastor Sharron Blezard, Assistant to the Bishop, met with council to explain alternatives for reconciling the conflict in our church. o Petition the Bishop to intervene. He would first appoint a committee of two pastors and one lay person. This process would take 3 to 6 months of fact finding by speaking with members, council, committees, and other groups within our church. The committee would then give the Bishop a report of their findings. If the report indicates some path to recovery is possible and the pastor remains in place, the reconciliation path would be guided by Synod. If the report to the Bishop indicated that the differences are irreconcilable, the congregation would need to meet and cast a 2/3 majority vote of no confidence. The result would be the appointment of an Intentional Interim Pastor to begin a process of agitation and tearing down to rid the church the root of the problem in order for the rebuilding process to take place. Pastor Blezzard warned that such action could cause even further damage. This process would take 3-6 months for the fact-finding committee and then 1½ - 2 years for completion. o Hire the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center at the cost of $20,000 or more, which cannot even be considered because of budget deficit. o Have Lower Susquehanna Synod with trained facilitators using the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center Process to enter a 6 phase process. 1. Contracting Phase 2. Education Phase 3. Information Gathering Phase 4. Healing Phase 5. Problem-Solving Phase 6. Closing Phase with final report and worship This process will take 6 to 12 months, Motion Cindy Shingler, on behalf of council, moved that Zion Lutheran Church enter into a Path to Reconciliation and Healing by contracting with the Lower Susquehanna Synod to provide professional support necessary to resolve the conflict currently found in our church. Seconded by John Long Discussion Several individuals spoke about their concerns and the problems facing Zion. Most attendees could relate to the problems being addressed. To solve the conflict that is happening in Zion Lutheran Church is of major concern with all attendees wanting to see healing and to see Zion return to the vibrant congregation with all factions of the church becoming vibrant and active. Pastor Wayne Moritz asked to speak to the motion. He stressed the following points: 11

Whose house is this? Is it the Lord s or the tempters house? How do we see each other? Do we see hurt or Jesus? We need the opportunity to bring peace and reconciliation. We desire to move on. Rev. Moritz then offered a prayer. Hearing no further discussion, President Ranck called for a vote by show of hand. The motion carried. Therefore, Zion Lutheran Church will enter into a contract with the Lower Susquehanna Synod for a path to Resolution and Healing. President David Ranck made some closing remarks rejoicing that the congregants have come together to promote healing and closure for Zion Lutheran Church in Hummelstown. The meeting adjourned at 1:10 p.m. 12

PASTOR S REPORT In looking back on life and ministry in 2014, the familiar words of Ecclesiastes 3 come to mind. "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven" (v.1). And then the author lists some of those seasons. "A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted...a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh...a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together...a time to seek, and a time to lose...a time to keep silence, and a time to speak" (vv. 2-7). It seems like we have experienced all those seasons and more in the short span of twelve months here at Zion. We have felt the pain of a congregation being torn apart. Yet we have tasted the joy of a community of faith being reborn. We have felt the sting of hurtful words and actions. Yet we have found strength in the witness and service manifest among us in so many kind and generous ways. Through the turmoil God has been with us and remains with us. As the Lord spoke to Isaiah, so God speaks to us. "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you...do not fear, for I am with you" (43:2,5). Thanks to the work of the Spirit among us we enter 2015 on a much better note than we began We are engaged in a ministry of reconciliation, designed to help us understand and correct the matters that have wounded us and that will lead us towards healing. Our church staff and committees are being revitalized, providing faithful ministry for our congregation. Numerous volunteers have stepped forward to carry on our faith formation and youth ministries. We are poised and ready to hire a new Youth Director. We are moving in the right direction. Our ministry is beginning to grow in new and promising ways. As Isaiah the prophet announced - "those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary" (40:31). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My ministry, in addition to taking on new dimensions in recent months, has continued with familiar roles. Preaching and worship remain focal points of what I do. Harvesting the Good News of Scripture and sharing it every Sunday is critical to the faith life of our community. We all need to have our spirits lifted, including myself. Exploring the Bible, presenting its message, and shaping it to fit the worship styles of three different services is a great privilege and a hefty responsibility. We once again celebrated a festive Easter Sunrise Service at the parish house with our sisters and brothers from three different churches. I offered a special sermon series in October entitled "Welcome to Philippi." Children and youth were welcomed to more fully participate in worship through children's messages, lighting the candles, assisting with Communion, and reading the Lessons. Our three fall festivals continued to be a highlight of our liturgical calendar - Reformation, All Saints, and Veterans Sundays. Pastoral care, as always, played a prominent role in my ministry. Counseling was provided for couples preparing for marriage, individuals and families going through stressful times of transition, people searching out their faith and the directions it was taking them, and members trying to sort through the changing times of our church. Calls were made on hospitalized members and friends. Visits were made bringing Communion to our loved ones at nursing homes or confined to their homes. 13

A variety of opportunities presented themselves for teaching this past year. Our Wednesday Women's Group continued to meet, studying a variety of topics from Easter Witnesses to Life in the Early Church, while also making beautiful cards and gifts for our homebound members. During our Lenten season Eat & Prays I shared in presenting lessons on the Daniel Plan. In June I helped provide opening lessons for our Vacation Bible School. Throughout the year I was invited into our Pre-School to read stories. I was also blessed to participate in their Christmas program and Graduation ceremony. While my commitment to leading all three worship services on Sundays precludes my involvement in Confirmation, I was able to attend two retreats in the spring and fall - the latter being a wonderful day of learning about the gift of prayer. Another avenue of ministry this past year led me to involvement in the activities of the six church Swatara Creek Lutheran Community. The churches, in addition to our own, are: Zion, Union Deposit; Trinity, Hershey; St. Paul's, Sand Hill; St. John, Hoernerstown; Shells, Grantville. Our cooperative efforts led us to collect hundreds of cans of soup for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, to participate in the "God's Work Our Hands" cleanup of Camp Kirchenwald, and to holding a summer picnic and sunset worship service. I also continue to serve as President of the Hummelstown Ministerium of Churches. Another joy, in October, was participating in the local CROP Walk. A new avenue of work has been helping to rebuild Zion's ministry structure, most notably our Church Staff. I am most appreciative of the wonderful volunteers who staffed our church office earlier this year, putting out bulletins and welcoming visitors, as we searched for a new Church Secretary. The Lord richly blessed us when, in June, we welcomed our new Church Secretary, Alicia Winey, on board. Thanks, as well, to Jennifer Klinger who began serving as our new Wedding Coordinator. Time and energy has also been devoted to renewing the life and vitality of our committees. Our Christian Education committee has energetically taken on the leadership of our Faith Formation Center so skillfully fashioned by our former Diaconal Minister Marsha Roscoe. Sunday Church School started on September 7 with Rally Day activities for children, youth, and adults. This past year our Youth Ministry, likewise, underwent a significant transition both in size and make-up. But we maintain our commitment to nurturing the faith and discipleship of our youth and have been blessed with the guidance and support of many volunteers in moving our Youth Ministry ahead as we seek a new Youth Director. Pursuing the healing and renewal of our community of faith has been my major endeavor this year. I am grateful for the counsel offered our congregation and myself through the Center for Emotional Intelligence and Human Relations (EQ-HR). Their workshop, which I attended in June, proved most insightful and helpful, pointing out congregational dynamics that needed attention. By the end of the year, after long and intense discussions, we, as a church, were ready to examine our life and ministry together. And at a special congregational meeting on October 26 we voted to enter into a Ministry of Reconciliation led by our Synodical Conflict Resolution Team. Throughout the year I have been speaking and writing in support of this process. It's hard to take a close look at behavioral patterns and communication styles that have arisen over the years and that have come to haunt us. But to move ahead and to grow into the community of disciples Christ is calling us to be it is necessary. To get us started with this work an eleven person Logistics Team has been formed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ministry today is a challenging endeavor, buffeted by cultural voices and attractions that lead us away from the faith and internal strife and divisions that eat away at the faith. Such are the times we face. Such are the times that the author of Ecclesiastes said inevitably occur. Yet we are passing through them 14

thanks to the Abiding Presence of the Holy Spirit. That passage may take months, even years. But that passage is part of the journey of faith our Lord is leading us upon. Every Sunday in worship, without fail, God feeds us with words of Grace. Every day we are praying for each other - for strength, wisdom, and healing. Every week people are stepping up and volunteering to help out with our ministry, propelling it faithfully into the future. Every moment of every day the Spirit is praying for us, constantly attentive to our prayers and hopes. Every day glimpses of God's Grace come our way - a friendly word, a kind gesture, an unexpected gift - lifting our spirits brings a new year and a holy invitation - to stay on the road of faith. We are moving in the right direction. We are following the Spirit's leading. We are heading towards healing and a bright, new day. As Isaiah promised - "Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary." 17 COUNCIL PRESIDENT S REPORT Zion Lutheran Church has existed for over 260 years in Hummelstown. The church and the congregation have experienced so much history; some very enriching in the life of the congregation, and some periods filled with conflict and strife. In fact, the last decade of our existence has been challenging with multiple changes in pastoral leadership, the economic disaster of 2008 which impacted our financial status immensely, a bell tower that was falling apart which required the use of our assets to restore and, more recently, conflict resulting in the departure of staff and members within our church family that threatened the very core of our trust and forbearance. This year, as we gather for our congregational meeting, we do so in the midst of our efforts to begin a recovery process through engagement in a reconciliation program facilitated by the Lower Susquehanna Synod. We will have the opportunity to face each other with honesty, mutual support, and shared desires to create an environment within Zion that will allow us to again worship in peace. This vision will require a sacrifice on the part of all of us. It will begin with prayer, be guided by prayer, and end with prayer to build a foundation that supports our congregation in future years. It will require all of us to build new Christian bonds within the congregation that are inclusive of differences of opinion and respect for one another. It will require all of us to engage in the process, not just for ourselves and what we each desire now, but to be mindful of the future of Zion and what will be important for Zion s continued existence. It will require us to reengage in the work of the church and not step back to see what happens. Rather it s time to step up and make good things happen with an attitude that reflects on our 260 years survival through the good work of our predecessors. I ask for your continued prayers for our church and for Zion s church leaders who have been called upon to make decisions that in their minds represent the best interest of our church. I ask that you look around the congregation and recognize the many good people who are here because we believe in God and believe Zion is a great place to worship our God. While we may feel somewhat down trodden at this point, I believe our vibrant history will greatly influence our promising future. Those who preceded us left us a legacy of sacrifice and suffering in order that they might experience great joy. We now face that same opportunity and, as the current council president, I pray we can do that together. In God s love, David Ranck, Council President 16

CONGREGATIONAL MINISTRY REPORTS EVANGELISM Summary of 2014 Evangelism Activities (No church funds were used for any of these projects) Free bottles of water and various church-related flyers at the Hummelstown Arts Festival Candy & church flyer handouts along part of the Hummelstown Halloween Parade route Mailed Christmas greetings to our active, away-from-home military members Provided snacks during the coffee hour in the parlor several times during the year Upgraded the pencils in the sanctuary pew racks Our major new evangelism goal for 2015 is to reach out to people on an even more personal level. We are committed to calling our many congregants who have become inactive. We will focus on encouraging them to renew their enthusiasm for worship and fellowship her at Zion. We extend an invitation to anyone who would like to become a part of our committee, but remind you that participation in evangelism is not limited to membership on a designated evangelism committee. Our entire congregation can be part of the evangelism effort. We are all called to be followers of Jesus and to witness in His name. Respectfully submitted, Ruth Hoffer, Chairperson FAITH FORMATION During the past year Zion continued to develop into a Center for Faith Formation. We are committed to growing in our baptismal faith as children, youth, and adults. We feel the Spirit is constantly engaging us in learning about the Word of God, every day of the week and throughout the year. And we desire to mature in our relationship with God and each other, both as children of God and as disciples of Christ. Our faith is always forming and, as a learning community, we seek to nurture that faith. In early February we held a wonderful Women's Retreat at the Hershey Hotel. Approximately 50 participants shared in the experience and found joy in growing friendships. The women of our church continued to explore the faith through Wednesday Women's Gatherings. A variety of topics were discussed and a number of gifts were made by the women as presents for our Homebound members. Sunday school classes continued on Sunday mornings at 9:30am, as well as Confirmation classes. Confirmands also sharpened their faith through retreats and Confirmation Camp. On Sunday, June 8th ten of our young women and men affirmed their baptismal faith, entering into confirmed membership at Zion. Throughout the spring Bible Cafe sessions were also offered for adult learners. Vacation Bible School provided the highlight of the summer with approximately 200 people involved. About 130 were children, gathering each night to hear Bible stories, sing and dance, make crafts, and enjoy games and tasty snacks. Our learning ministry entered a new chapter late in the summer with the resignations of our Diaconal Minister and Youth Director. But through the wonderful work of many volunteers our Faith Formation 17

ministry has carried on with great devotion and energy. We celebrated Rally Day with the opening of classes on September 7th. Our Youth Ministry also resumed activities the same month. Thanks to all our dedicated helpers! We are continuing to renew our Christian Education programs as we head into We have just received twelve new people to the Lord's Table for First Communion. We are planning on hiring a new Youth Director in the very near future. And, together, we look to grow in our faith through prayer, Bible study, worship, and service. In Christ, Pastor Wayne KITCHEN In 2014 the Kitchen Committee prepared or supported the preparation of food for the following: Funerals (6) Supported the Mission Soup Sales (2) Fasnacht Day Meals during Lent (5) Supported the Youth Easter Breakfast Dinner for Sally Workshop (1) New Member s Dinner Music Sunday Brunch Confirmation Brunch Farewell receptions for Marsha Roscoe & Ben Williams Chancel Choir Brunch Dinners for a Birthday Party and an Anniversary Thanks to the committee members for their continued support and to Shirley & Jim Davis for the produce from their garden. Respectively Submitted Edith Wiestling & Pat Logan, Co-Chairperson PERSONNEL The Personnel Committee met several times during the year related to personnel actions including the addition of Alicia Wining to our staff as church secretary. We have begun the implementation of the newly adopted Personnel Manual passed by the previous council and during the coming year will examine several areas we have identified that need tweaking. Respectfully submitted, David Ranck, Chairperson 18

PROPERTY Dusk to Dawn Light Dusk to Dawn Light in back parking lot has been replaced and is now working well. Sanctuary Lighting Lighting in the Sanctuary has been replaced with LED bulbs. There are 4 bulbs in each of the 12 hanging lights. They draw a total of 600 watts of power. The 4 LED bulbs will draw only 72 watts. The older bulbs put out 5600 lumens and the LEDs put out 6400 lumens of light. North Wall The north wall project has been completed. The wall was totally pressure washed and sealed with a clear coat. They even went down the steps in the back and pressure washed the walls and sealed them. Salt Jim Friedel has ordered salt for the sidewalks and back parking lot. We also purchased a new salt spreader so our snow removal company does not have to spread salt. Hymnal Board Jim Friedel said he was told by Julie not to put them up because the numbers were in the Sunday Bulletin, he will now make sure they are put up for Sunday Service. Roof The roof repair is complete. The roofers took a quick look at the rest of the roof and there were a couple of areas that should be revisited in the spring. Parking Lot Hole The pad in the parking lot was poured, cracked, and will be replaced in the spring at no cost to us. Chapel We are looking at the possibility of moving the Chapel back to the old Parish House. The Historical Society made us an offer that we may want to consider. More information will be forthcoming. Building Modification Taskforce Still waiting for a report from the committee. Bulletin Board The bulletin board outside the office was removed for the mural that was painted on the wall and never replaced. A new bulletin board will be hung outside the doors leading to Leatherman Hall. Door Windows It has been requested that windows be placed in the doors of several classrooms and the youth room. That project has not yet been completed. Door A door has been placed between the two choir rooms. There is still some work to be done to complete the project. Wood Frames - I have been asked to remove the wood frames/stages on the side porch but before I do does anyone know why they are there and are they of any use? Painting Woodwork Around Windows and Doors - At the present time, we have two quotes ranging from $6, to $11, for the side and front of the building. We are going back with a set list of specifications and have three painters re-quote the job. The painting will be completed in Face Stone - When the attachment between the two buildings was built the stone was a face stone, not real stone. It has started to slough off under the front steps. Hopefully this is only a minor problem, but we need to keep an eye on the rest of the surface, both on the outside and in the courtyard. The stone work may have to wait until Temperature - The temperature in the sanctuary has been set at 70 degrees during the week and 68 degrees for the Sunday services. I have been getting a lot of complaints that it is too cold. The temperature is now set at a constant 73 degrees. 19

Phone - Cheri has asked to have a phone/intercom put in the classroom on the second floor in case of an emergency. Moorefield Communications has been contacted. Second Floor Restrooms Two, two-step plastic stools have been purchased to allow the children to reach the deep sink in the boy s bathroom and the sink in the girl s bathroom. Second Floor Water Fountain - Is not in working condition. A plumber will be contacted unless there is a reason why it should not be repaired. Garbage Collection - We were paying $ per month for collection. After a short negotiation, Waste Management has lowered their price to $ per month. Closet Dry wall has been repaired. The walls and ceiling have been painted. Rental Property Brian Norris s father has been contacted to remove junk from the second floor of the house on the corner in hopes of turning this space into a small rental office. Respectfully submitted, Jim Davis, Chairperson SOCIAL MINISTRY In the year 2014, the Social Ministry Committee continued the effort to help those who may be lacking things that the rest of us take for granted. The Glove Drive provided 63 pairs of gloves for the Christ Lutheran Outreach program; however, the effort for 2024/2015 is doing much better. Over 40 blankets were donated by the congregation and divided between Christ Lutheran and Bethesda Mission. In addition to gloves and blankets, the Partners With Christ Committee delivered many baby, health care, and personal care items. A total of over 70 pints of blood were donated at Zion s two blood drives as well as those who gave in Zion s name throughout the year which means that over 200 lives were saved. For the annual Crop Walk in October, Zion was represented by a dozen walkers. Members of the congregation donated over $1, This, of course, goes to fight hunger globally and locally. The Hummelstown Food Bank, directed by Elaine Gruber, is now serving over 100 families. Special boxed meals continue to being distributed at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. I would especially like to thank my committee members for their outstanding efforts, for without them, these things would not get done. Respectfully submitted, Michael Good, Chairperson 20
