Dear friends, Here we come "Castello-ing" wi is, our yearly rhyme. Before e rush and hurrying, we like to take e time to express to you all heartfelt anks wi is, our call. Eight years now at Emanuel we've shared in ministry; it's been eight years now we've shared in ministry. It's such a privilege for us to be "Church Fam'ly" here, to share your joys and sorrows, your laughter and your tears. It's a blessed tie at binds Christian hearts and Christian minds, as togeer we work to share e good news of God's love; we all try to live e gospel of God's love. We've earned a reputation as a church at reaches out to be e hands of Jesus to ose in need, no doubt; feeding bodies and souls wi our "Soul Food" plates and bowls, and collecting each mon e ings at charities most need-- wi our caring sharing we fulfill some needs. So, ank you once again to each and every one of you for all e love and kindness you've shown e whole year rough. Love and joy come to you and to all your loved ones, too. 3 Dear Pastor Castello, Pat Mohring, and our Emanuel Family, Since e mons at have passed since my Mom s dea...i have finally been able to settle down and move on wi my grieving - I was my Mom s live-in caretaker for almost 12 years and her passing left a void in my life at I couldn t understand in e first couple of mons after her dea... but I must say my journey actually started at day - in your office Pastor Castello. Your kind words and just listening to all myself and my broers and eir wives had to say was truly a blessing and we needed to talk about her and hear God s word - and for me at she was ok...i was e one at always knew she was ok and taken care of - and I know - even ough its God - I still wanted assured at she was ok (at s e German stubbornness in me), and you Pastor Castello gave me at...and en e wonderful sermon - I honestly do not have enough words at can describe how at was e most beautiful, awesome, wonderful funeral service my Moer could have ever wanted or hoped for... Pat - your music at day was absolutely beautiful... I wish I would have gotten to say at in person - but some how I missed you at day... I can still recall e days my parents cleaned e church and I would go into your office and just be amazed all e ings you did for our church!! Thank you again - I just wanted to let you know what you all did made a mark in my life and I am forever ankful!! She put up a strong and courageous fight against MS over e last decade. 6 Caring Corner The Caring Corner for December Project: We Care Angel Tree We have volunteered to adopt 50 kids for Christmas is year and have so far received 22 families involving 50 kids. Our Angel Tree will be located in e overflow area of e sanctuary beginning e first Sunday in Advent, December 2. Decorated wi paper angel ornaments which will be numbered to help wi e sorting of gifts, each angel will list a boy or girl wi eir age or a family wi e number of family members and a gift suggestion, taken from e family s application form. Please choose a gift at you are willing to buy, wrap, and label wi at paper angel, and return it undernea e tree no later an Monday, December 17. Each child will receive at least one new outfit (appropriate sizes are specified) and anoer gift or two. Each child in e same family will receive e same number of presents, and each family will receive a holiday meal or a Chief gift card for such. Please wrap your gift and label it by lightly attaching e angel. Any gift cards do not need to be wrapped; simply enclose in an envelope and label wi e angel. All Angel Tree gifts need to be brought to e church by Monday, December 17. Delivery to e families will take place on Tuesday, December 18, and/or Thursday, December 20, and we will, of course, invite em to worship wi us here at Emanuel at Christmas and always. Salvation Army Bell Ringing There are STILL openings for you to help ring in e holidays wi e Salvation Army bell-ringing at WalMart. We were originally given 4 Saturdays to fill November 24, December 8, 15, and 22. Please call Bob Joseph at to volunteer for a 2-hour shift. All of e monies raised in e red kettles at WalMart in Napoleon stay for use by e Salvation Army here in Napoleon. Emanuel will be just one church stop on e historical society s downtown church tour on Saturday, December 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. We would like to furer decorate our church at evening wi nativities sets, and ideally, we would LOVE to have a set to display from EACH family in Emanuel! Please bring your set, labeled wi your name, to e church by Saturday morning, December 14. And/or you may help e Congregational Life Board set ese all out at morning, starting at 9 a.m. You can en take your nativity set home after worship on Sunday, December 16. Let s welcome e community into our church and welcome y Holy Family into our lives! Here we come a-caroling... Date and time To Be Announced!! 5 Sunday December 30 Out wi e old, in wi e new potluck! The last 5 Sunday of 2012 will be December 30, and, just before New Year s Eve, we d like to invite you to bring in all of your holiday leftovers and/or all of ose goodies at you re planning to get rid of in e New Year wi your new diet resolutions! Deas Harold Delvenal passed from is life on November 1. His funeral was held at e Walker Mortuary on e 5. Ru Delaney entered e Church Triumphant on e 4. Her funeral was held at Emanuel on November 7. A memorial service was held here on November 10 for Homer Williams, faer of Bill Williams. Homer passed away on October 19 in Columbus. Please pray for God s comfort for eir families and friends. Wedding Congratulations and God s blessings to Alex Bustamante and Jennifer Sloan who were married here by Pastor Castello on November 17. 10 Notes from Angela - Angela Tonjes Adult Choir We have been busy getting special music ready for Advent and Christmas. We will have rehearsal Wednesday, December 5 and 12 from 6:30-7:30 in e sanctuary. NO rehearsal on Wednesday, December 26 OR Wednesday, January 2. All choir members and spouses/guests are invited to e annual Christmas party on Wednesday, December 19 at 6:30 p.m. Tom and Be Jenny have graciously offered to host again is year. Please bring a potluck dish. The choir will be singing Little Bitty Baby and A Little Child Will Come to Lead Us for Advent. Watch for some special liturgy during communion is mon also. The choir and bell choir will be providing e music for e church tour on December 15. Look for more information elsewhere in is newsletter. Living Spirit Living Spirit continues to rehearse each Wednesday from 7:30-8:00 p.m. Our song for December 16 is Do You Hear What I Hear? (featuring our young singers) and for e cantata Face of God. After School Club A reminder, we will have After School Club on ree Wednesdays is mon: December 5, 12 and 19. The children are asked to attend e choir rehearsal on Wednesday, December 12 at 6:30 p.m. in e sanctuary. We will practice e cantata music wi e adults. The children are very excited to be singing wi e adult choir during e entire Christmas cantata is year! Remember, church is at 9:00 a.m. and e children need to meet in e basement wi e choir. They are reminded to wear a festive outfit for is. Advent The season of Advent begins on Sunday, December 2. We will begin lighting e candles of e Advent wrea. Emanuel families will be helping wi is. The Advent wrea has four blue candles, symbolizing hope, peace, joy, and love. The wrea itself is an image of everlasting life, e crown of Jesus, and a victory wrea. Lighting candles in e winter season of growing darkness reminds us to let e light of Jesus shine rough us for e whole world to see. Cantata The choir will present eir annual Christmas cantata on Sunday, December 23. There will be ONE SERVICE at day at 9:00 a.m. Entitled The Christmas Story in Poetry and Carols, is cantata will feature many of Emanuel s talented musicians. They will also have an extensive nativity display. First Presbyterian Church will also feature seasonal music! Also sit back and enjoy e beautiful decorations displayed on eir trees and roughout e church. St. Paul United Meodist Church will be displaying nativity scenes roughout e sanctuary. Enjoy viewing e decorations to a backdrop of holiday music. At each church, be sure to get your copy of a favorite Christmas carol, and learn a little bit of e featured carol s history. 12 Community Thanksgiving Dinner 2012 This year s Community Thanksgiving Dinner is being hosted by St. Paul Lueran Church on Glenwood on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. St. Paul will oversee e gaering/purchasing of all at is needed for e meal wi e exception of pies. Here is how you can contribute to e effort: Volunteers are needed to help set up, cook/food prep, serving, clean-up.
