Christmas is soon approaching! It s time to start thinking of ordering poinsettias. We will have 6 1/2 poinsettias in red, white or pink at $8 each. Checks may be written to Newark FFA. MISSION TRIP MEETING on TUESDAY, November 21 at 7:00 pm in basement. We need each of you there if possible! Please mark your calendars today! Lots of things to discuss and LAST DAY for airfare deposit to be turned in. See you there! Announcements Matching Funds- There is a new Matching Funds Offer up to $30,000, running from now till the end of the year. Thanksgiving Eve Service will be held at 7pm. CARE PACKAGES- It's your turn to be involved as a congregation to send care packages to our servicemen (listed in the bulletin). The SS classes will be involved by making cards, decorating, and coloring and giving words of encouragement and reminding them that Jesus loves them. Just a couple suggestions on items to put in the collection bag - Visa gift cards, calling cards, magazines, writing paper, envelopes, stamps, hard candy ect... If you want a specific card to go to a certain person, please make sure that persons name is on the envelope. Otherwise, all donations will be divided equally. Gift bags will be in the narthex and near the FLC lobby on November 19th and 26th. We are so thankful and blessed for the servicemen from our church. Question. contact Tina Cryder. Guidepost Subscriptions Just as we did last year, we are asking for a donation of $10 to put a one-year Guidepost subscription into the hands of a serviceman, servicewoman or veteran around the world. On November 26th, you may donate at either usher station following the worship service. Thank you for showing you care by giving a gift of hope and inspiration from our church. 5 Niki and Muriel Sucher served in the United States Navy during the early 2000 s as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom the ongoing war against global terrorism. Here are their stories. Ladies first. Muriel Seiberlich graduated early from Serena High School in December, She enrolled for one semester at Eureka College before deciding to enlist in the United States Navy on September 11, 2001, yes that date! Her basic training was at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center on Lake Michigan near North Chicago, IL. Because of 9-11 her basic training lasted for 9 weeks that year. In January of 2002 while stationed at Great Lakes she flew to the USS Bridge with West PAC in the Persian Gulf near the country of Bahrain, a small Arab constitutional monarchy. There her responsibilities included cleaning, painting, waxing, and polishing. In March, 2002 she became a signalman or flag communicator through Morse Code with other ships in the Gulf. At the end of May, 2002 she went back to Fort Bremerton, Washington, the home the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Annex of the Naval Base Kitsap. Niki met her at the dock.but that wasn t the beginning of the story. From May, 2002 until she was honorably discharged in September, 2003, Muriel worked as secretary for the whole naval base at Fort Bremerton.

6 Niki Sucher was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Because of the divorce of his parents, Niki and his two brothers were split up and without a good home situation, he found himself in the foster care system in Utah where his mother had moved for a few years. By age 13 he ran away and was predominantly homeless till the age of 19. Since both his dad and step dad had been in the Navy he decided that would be for him. He was told he needed a permanent address in order to enlist so he went back to his mom temporarily. He enlisted on September 12, 2000 (1 yr. before Muriel). Niki s basic training was also at Great Lakes for 8 weeks and an additional 2 weeks of training as a fireman. On December 27, 2000 he was sent to Seattle to the USS Bridge in drydock and 3 months later to Fort Bremerton, Washington. He was involved in various training exercises until November, 2001 when he was deployed on the USS Bridge in the Persian Gulf near Bahrain. Niki and Muriel met on Wog Day - February 1, 2002 on board the USS Bridge. It is on the eve of an equator crossing. A ceremony where the Shellbacks on the ship, those enlisted who have crossed the equator, set up a nasty obstacle course on the ship for the Pollywogs, those who have never crossed the equator. Muriel had to dress up as a dalmation and had to sing on demand. Niki and 3 of his buddies went by, saluted her and asked her to sing. That was the beginning of their relationship. For the next month, they saw much of each other. But in March, 2002 Niki tore a tendon in his hand and had to go back to Fort Bremerton for surgery. At the end of May when Muriel was sent back to the Fort until her discharge is where Niki met her at the dock. Niki was on shore duty that included a gas turbine mechanic and security MA. They were married on August 7, 2003 and lived in off base housing until Niki s discharge on September 12, 2004 after 4 years in the Navy. After his discharge Niki went to Afghanistan as civilian contractor - generator mechanic from February, September, Muriel moved back home to Serena and felt that was the time when she really came to know the Lord and had decided to give her life to Him. When Niki came back he worked at Caterpillar in Aurora for a year, then at General Electric in Dekalb for 9 years before he was laid off in In 2011 Niki came to know the Lord, much through the urging of Muriel. They attended Fox River Lutheran for several years. They went to Haiti with Orphan s Prayer and YWAM for 7 weeks expecting the Lord to open doors as missionaries, but that hasn t materialized yet. Currently, Niki works on heavy equipment at Wedron Silica. They are expecting their 8th child in February.
