1 FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF BELLEVUE The Clarion th Ave NE Volume 19 Issue 8 July 29, 2013 Bellevue WA Ph: office@fumcbellevue.org Summer Worship: One Service at 10 am Sunday School 10 am Rev. Steve Tarr, Pastor Nancy Berry, Congregational Care Looking Toward Fall W e have a Rally Day tradition in our church. On the first Sunday after Labor Day (this year it will be September 8) we hold a Ministry Fair. Each ministry area in our congregation sets up a display designed to inform people about their particular ministry and to invite their participation. This year we are going to take this tradition and expand on it. Instead of focusing on our ministry opportunities for just a single Sunday, we will highlight them for each of the Sundays from Rally Day through the middle of October. Starting from the conviction that each of us has our own calling from God, we will encourage each of us to discover how we can Take Charge of who we are created to be. One part of this campaign will be the themes of our Sunday worship. The sermons will address issues such as discovering our gifts, passions and preferences. We will look at the ways God has equipped us and what that means for the ways we involve ourselves in ministry. The second part will come from the ministry teams Caption describing picture or graphic. themselves. Each week in worship we will highlight a different ministry area. We want to help people understand each ministry area and find ways that they can participate. Don t miss this series! Laurie Edwards Children and Families Judy Allen, Director of Communications Marsha Petersen, Office Manager Summer Play Group Stories, crafts and games in the nursery for the children (preschool through elementary) while the parents chat. Tuesdays from 9:30 11 am all summer. FREE! Please tell new families on your block, friends and relatives! A wonderful way to spend the morning!
2 Page 2 The Clarion Taizé Worship and Potluck Taizé is a peaceful, meditative service of music, prayer, Scripture and poetry held in a candlelit sanctuary. As we continue our tradition of honoring God s creation, this summer we will consider the four elements of fire, air, earth and water as themes for our Taizé worship. Our last Taizé worship service of the summer will be held on Wednesday, August 28, at 7:30 pm. Each service is preceded by a potluck supper at 6:30 pm. The church will provide a main course and beverage. Please bring other dishes to share. Weather permitting, we will dine on the patio adjacent to the exit driveway. The Taizé service is one of song and meditation. It was established in the 1940 s in Taizé, France, by several Christian brothers, and it thrives there now, as well as in many other places of the world. Join us. Flower Calendar for 2013 You still have a chance to sign up to give flowers this year. Open Sundays include: August 11, September 15 and 29, and November 10.
