1 October 2015 Newsletter Cultivating a supernatural Jesus-culture that values God s presence, honors God s people, & advances God s Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. October Dates Family of the Month: Prophetic Apple Fest This month, we are honored to feature Rowland & Lauren Rose, and their beautiful children: Gianna (Gigi), Eli, & Jack! Lauren serves on our Welcome Center team as well as in Kids Ministry. The Rose s have been regularly attending Open Door for a little over a year now. To Remember: Friday, 10/2-Sunday, 10/4 bit.ly/odcfapple New Bible Study Begins Fridays, 9am katepodjan@gmail.com Honor Day Sunday, 9:30am katepodjan@gmail.com Colossians Study Begins Tuesdays, 6:30pm matthewpodjan@gmail.com or dennischaput@gmail.com Men s Breakfast Saturday, 7am dennischaput@gmail.com The Rose s Tell us about yourselves! Rowland: I am a husband, father and programmer. Lauren: I am a wife, mom, and administrative assistant at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary. Tell us about your kiddos: Gianna (7) is a girly girl, scientist, wild child, gardener, sensitive soul. Eli (6) is a Lego fanatic with a heart of gold, who is excited about everything. Jack (17 months) is a daredevil who likes spicy food, puddles, reading the same book over and over and most of all, cuddling with his Momma. How do you spend your days? What do you like to do for fun and/or relax? R: I like to experiment with making electronic music, I also read sci-fi novels once in a while. I have programming projects now and then. Mostly I play with the kids. L: Well like us all, how I like to spend continued on next page God loves us. God is always good. We need Him. We love God, and we love people!

2 continued from previous page my days and how they are spent are sometimes, ok often, different. I really like working part time. I started about two months ago and it is important for me to have grown up interactions, use my brain and degree, and big BONUS! it s for God s glory! Then I come home and I m mom and maid and that s ok. I d love to sleep more, read more, spend more, but that time will come. How did you find Open Door? L: I came to Open Door because I followed Ashley Canarecci from Granger Missionary (our former church) and because I am neighbors with Ann Burkey and Shannon Chaput. When I was invited to Mom s group and it was hosted by El Lee(who I went High School with) it was like OK GOD I get it! Here is where I am supposed to be :) Where are you currently serving at Open Door? L: I currently serve at the Welcome Center and am being trained in the nursery. I am excited to be trained in the Nursery because frankly, I am there anyway with Jack and I might as well be useful. What about Jesus excites you? L: I am most excited about getting to know Jesus personally. Hearing his voice daily still amazes me. Knowing that he is a Good God and in a Good Mood was news to me! And so is a lot of the Kingdom on Earth things we talk about at Open Door. What is the craziest thing you have ever done? L: The Craziest thing: hmm I think it was our first date. We went paddle boarding, mountian biking, and reggae dancing all in one day on a first semi-blind date. We just clicked and never stopped hanging out with each other. What is the kindest thing that someone has ever done for you? L: When I left my first husband, I was a stay at home mom. I was homeless, unemployed, and broken. My family, church, and friends gathered around me and carried me through, got me an apartment, fed and clothed me and the kids. They were Jesus to me. Showed me His love in a real and physical way. What is your love language? How can we show you our love and appreciation for you in meaningful ways? L: I crave community and friendship in a real way. I would love to be closer connected to the friends I have here and spend more time with them. Name two things that you consider yourself to be very good at: L: Meeting new people and having fun! What is one of your proudest/happiest moments or achievements? R: Marrying Lauren, seeing the kids do well at school, getting my current job. L: My proudest moments are marrying Rowland and having my babies. Which is your most favorite place on this earth? Why? R: Wherever my family is all gathered. Preferably at a park on a nice day. L: The beach, I love to sit in the sun, toes in the sand, book in my lap. What was the last book you read? R: House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds L: The Naked Anabaptist by Stuart Murray What is something that you are looking forward to in the next 3 months? L: Seeing where God is leading me in regards to the Refugee crisis, and my favorite Holidays. What is your favorite worship song? L: It Is Well, the new version (by Bethel) :) It carries me on hard days and reminds me that circumstances or my kitchen floor don t need to be well for my soul to be well. Do you have anything else that you would like to share with us? R: I am an Atheist/Agnostic who loves my Christian wife and appreciates the warm welcome this church gives us. I never talk about my beliefs (or lack there-of) in church since I don t think it would be the appropriate venue. If God exists and wants to bless me with a sign or miracle that would continued on next page

3 continued from previous page change my beliefs, then that would be fine by me. I m just interested in the truth. When it comes to concern about the afterlife (Pascal s wager), I believe that if God exists, he s more concerned with what s in my heart than what s in my head. And though I am not perfect, I work daily to live and behave morally. I was raised with some on-again-off-again exposure to church, mainly Missionary and Methodist. Top 5 Things Lauren Likes To Do Without Kids: 1) Date my husband 2) nap 3) read 4) shop 5) explore a new town or beach Rowland s Top 5 Musical Artists 1) Blitzen Trapper 2) Daft Punk 3) xyce 4) Disasterpeace 5) The Accidentals Lauren s Top 5 TV Shows: 1) House Hunters 2) Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries 3) House Hunters International 4) The Property Brothers 5) Sherlock Holmes Rowland s Top 5 Restaurants 1) Bangkok Place Thai Restaurant (Elkhart) 2) Evil Czech (Mishawaka) 3) Chipotle 4) The Vine (Elkhart) 5) Zing Japanese Fusion (Mishawaka) Top 6 things Lauren Is Looking Forward To In The Future 1) reading more books 2) becoming a better painter 3) growing with God 4) watching my babies grow 5) telling my story to young women 6) dating my Husband Thank you so much, Rowland & Lauren, for sharing!
