All the readings in that book are taken from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. 2. The Old Testament readings during Trinity will be from Track 2 of Common Worship 3. At non-communion services the second reading should normally be the Gospel. HOLY BAPTISM at Badby on 2 July Casper William Bushnell and Lenny Hector Bushnell-Evans Shine as a light in the world, to the Glory of God the Father FROM THE REGISTERS HOLY MATRIMONY at Preston Capes on 1 July Clare Elizabeth Walker and Benjamin Edward Giles [by The Very Rev. John Clarke, former Dean of Wells]. Blessed are you, heavenly Father You give joy to bridegroom and bride Dear friends, Well the Holy Days (holidays) are upon us. Time for rest and refreshment, or stress and expense! We have several examples in the Gospel of Jesus trying to take time out and go somewhere quite to pray and reflect. Usually he was followed by a big crowd demanding his attention. So if in your attempts to take a break, your phone X calls, s seem to follow you around you are in good company. It is not big or clever to work so hard that you are exhausted. It is not impressive to always be claiming you are so busy. I am sure that most of us will know someone who is always (modestly) bewailing their busy lives. Even God rested a day after creating everything! Are we more important than God? No! Holidays and breaks are essential, not luxuries. Taking time off is as much a part of good working practice as is attending training courses, or going that extra mile for a customer. THE RECTOR'S LETTER There used to be a movement in Christian circles, "Keep Sunday Special". I must admit I was never a fan; it discriminated against those who needed to work on a Sunday, those we rely on such as ambulances workers, nurses, firefighters. What I am passionate about is restricting working hours so people must take time off, each week and over the course of a year. This is the Christian model. Jesus himself railed against people who X sought to enforce a specific day of rest on people, beyond common sense and compassion. However, he set an example of taking rest, and used Old Testament passages to warn the bosses not to exploit the workers. So enjoy your holidays whenever you take them, and we look forward to returning refreshed and blessed. Blessings 3 4

3 EVENING SERVICE OF THE WORD Not able to come to church on Sunday? Why not try the Evening Service of The Word? Held once a month on Tuesday evening (following the third Sunday of the month) at 6.30pm at St... Mary s Badby, this friendly, peaceful service lasts no longer than 25 minutes. Led in turn by some of those who attend, there is always a brief talk about somebody inspirational such as Thomas Cranmer, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Caroline Chisholm. All welcome! Forward ESOW dates are August 22 and September 19. MIDWEEK COMMUNION There will be no mid-week communion service in August or September owing to the Rector's absence. 5 Our second Lammastide service was again a great success. With the church bedecked in summer flowers and an abundance of wheat heralding the beginning of the harvest season, communion was taken using some of the fresh bread baked by members of the Fawsley community. A really lovely service. A NOTE FROM OUR TOWER CAPTAIN It was with a great deal of pleasure and honour that I was able to take on the mantle of Tower Captain for the magnificent set of bells at St. Mary the Virgin, Fawsley back in November Since then, with a very positive band of ringers we have managed to keep the bells ringing for all but 2 services plus a Wedding and a Remembrance service. The bells sound wonderful, one of the oldest sets in the county and still a maiden set of 4 caste and hung in Henry VI was on the throne and Great Britain was about to enter the Wars of the Roses how brilliant to think that our church bells have such a long history if only the bells could talk!! Recently the clappers and sliders were greased making them easier to chime and ring up and on 15th June 2017 at 7pm a band came together to ring the bells in support of the BBC Music Day. On this occasion we rang for 30 minutes and dedicated the ring to the new church roof. Prayers and thanks were offered for all the hard work and dedication shown by so many of the friends and congregation of Fawsley that came together to enable the roof to be replaced so soon. Over 280 bell ringing groups around the world united to ring bells at 7pm local time in support of BBC Music Day. The global ringing event included bell-ringers from as far afield as Australia and Zimbabwe to create a very special bell-ringing moment. It is my intention to keep these magnificent bells ringing, to support new and up and coming ringers, Money isn't everything......but it keeps the kids in touch. 9 and to call people to church and celebrate the word of God in this small but often very loud way!!
