16 / ARKANSAS STATEASSOCATON 15 is that door There is but one door and Christ says He is that door; and he that cometh in by the door shoud have fu feowship ~and equa rights with a Christians Let a man examine himsef and so et him eat of that bread and drink of that cup, for he that eateth and drinketi unworthiy, eateth and drinketh damnation to himsef, not to the church, but to himsef t is a, persona matter in judging and in eating The church that does judge and excude any of Gods peope is not acting and keeping the instructions given to the Chursh of Cor inth To thus judge and excude one of the chidren of, God is to of, fend the chid so judged and excuded Now isten to Christ He that offends one of these itte ones that beieves in me it vere better for him that a mistone were hung about his neck and that he were drowned in the depths of the sea, (Matt 8:6; Cor 10:30; 3132) t is contended that they of the same faith and order shoud be entited to partake of the Lords Supper admit that the true faith is the means by which men become Christians f this is,vhat is meant by the same faith sha notobject We are agreed, but if sect is to be inferred, object As to order, if nothing but Gospe order is meant, very we, but donot think that one chid of God shoud dictate what church he shoud beong to, or order that he may be in the right church, for the church is but an organic body of Christians, and simpy pacing your name on the ro book of the best church on earth does not make you a Christian, neither wi a ike process in the worst church make a sinner The Eunuch beieved and was baptized What church did he join? Here is faith and here is order Now ask 1 if the Eunuch were to wish to commune with some of the, churches woud he be aowed the right? No, he is not of the same faith and order; yet he is admitted into Heaven, but nay, he coud not be admitted to a sectarian tabe At the Lords tabe a the peope have a perfect right to be whom he may, and when the supper is set and a Gods peope are not invited it is not the Lords Supper, but a sectarian supper, so we being many are one body in Christ, and every member one of another (Rom 12: 15) And the way we be come one body is by being baptized into that body, and of course this is a spiritua baptism He that gets in by water baptism, the same is a thief and a robber, and when anyone gets into that body in a ega way he has a right to a the benefits and privieges of that body, for we being many are one bread and one body, for we are a partakers of that one bread, (1 Cor 10:17) By partaking we exhibit a oneness of that body Who is meant by we? t certainy means a Christians of a ages When you come together tarry for one another, be of one mind, but et the word of God controthe mind f it had ever been intended by the Sa vi or that the supper, shoud be guarded as some attempt to guard it, God woud have endowed the judge with

17 ; 16 TWENTYSXTH ANNUAL SESSON ; ; ;! t, i i!! ;! r wisdom to discern the pure from the impure But the standpoint from which they judge is water baptism and a ega administration of the same, so if baptized by immersion, and a ega ad mini J stration, this settes the matter and Christian character is eft entirey out, by which some make a woefu mistake, for after a this precaution, some have been found unworthy of the east privieges of the church To admit immersion to be the ony mode of bap tism, and a true beiever receiving it, is this not a right? some woud say yes; if by a ega administrator This is a that is wanting s it not a purey persona matter? f so he has been as truy baptized as anyone t is the duty of the preacher to baptize and the appicant to be baptized When this is done each have performed a persona duty f have never been baptized and had to wait unti found one whom knew to be ega administrator, woud never have been baptized at a, as can never know the heart of a man Two acting in concert, one acting in good, faith and the other notthe one is bessed and the other is not Every Christian is stricty responsibe for his own act and not for another Simon, the sorcerer, beieved and was baptized, and, / by a ega administrator, and yet it was discovered that,he was not a Christian So we see that baptisms by ega administrator does not confer any caims on him to any Christian rights, as this case proves it to be a persona matter, as we ceary see that the aposte did his duty and Simon did not, or vice versa The aposte, inspired as he was, did not discern the evi in Simons heart, neith er can we know the heart of a man when we do our duty it is ours when an appicant, it is his So we find that faith, repentance, the Chri~tian duties, are a persona, and ac~ountabe unto God and unto man Various are the opinions of men, and the way we account for them is in the capacity of men, and if we use the } capacity that God has given us, do not think that we shoud be eternay co~emned for what we cannot hep The Church of Chiist is divided into many members, but it is one spiritua body and Christ is the head, and they shoud have the same care, one for the other, as the natura body has for its members, yet _they a shoud subserve the same interest in that body Shoud Christians a commune together answer, what the Lord has joined together der at et the Lords Tabe? no man put a sun Ve have something more than fortythree states in the Union They are a equa, free and independent states, yet they are unit ed and have one great centra, point at which to meet and testitfy that they are free and jndependent states, and yet but one nation A Christians shoud have one centra point at which to meet and
