The 2015 theme was Journey off the Map: Unknown to Us, Known to Him. Each Leader spent much time planning: decorating the rooms, coordinating supplies, finding helpers, and preparing lessons for the children who would attend. 1

2 Leaders took their students on a journey through God s Plan of Salvation, explaining what the Bible says about GOD S POWER Romans 1:16, OUR PROBLEM: Romans 3:23, OUR PUNISHMENT: Romans 6:23, GOD S PROVISION: Romans 5:8, and GOD S PROMISE: Romans 10:9. Our Leaders were able to teach Jesus Christ as God s plan for salvation. Numbered papers were spaced out on the gym floor. At the end of day, the children were told to find the car numbers that matched their name tags. Cars lined up in the back parking lot. Parents did not have to leave their cars to pick up their children. As children checked in, they were given a name tag with pick-up information on the back. The children crawled into Survival Springs Underground Cavern for snack. They sat on lily pads and ate bugs! The Worship program was led by our Music Director, Jerry Williams, who was up in a tree house on stage. 2

3 In Missions, the children watched videos of missions activities around the world. Everyone enjoyed making arts and crafts to take home on Friday. 5-7 grade attended VBSX. Pre-teens were assigned a group location (North, South, East, or West) and named for their positions within each group (Scout, Trail Guide, Navigator). Each group made a journey that was known to (Christ) Him only and unknown to us. After being re-fueling in the snack room, the children spent their energy playing games in the gym. VBS is all about smiles! Everyone was tired by the end of the week. Guess who! 3

4 And, we are building once again!!! During the month of June we learned about Sweden and learned quite a few interesting facts about that country. For instance, the flag is said to have been inspired by a vision that appeared to the12th-century King Eric IX. As he was landing in Finland during the First Swedish Crusade in 1157, he saw a golden cross in the sky, and believed it to be a sign from God. He adopted the golden cross against a blue background as his banner, and the golden cross only later turned yellow. In Sweden, there is a law that all companies are required to offer free massages to their employees! These are interesting facts, but the most important fact is that, as of the beginning of this decade, only 18% of Swedish Citizens claim to believe there is a God. As a result, the International Mission Board (IMB) has sent numerous missionaries to minister to the Swedes. In RA s, we learned about a family who has organized churches in parks and cafes, playing their guitars and singing together. Who would have thought that such a simple activity as singing in the park could create a church? As a project for the month, the RA s decided to construct the Oresund Bridge, which is the planet s longest cable-tied road and rail bridge. The Oresund is approximately five miles long and connects Sweden to Denmark. It begins in the Swedish town Lernacken and ends on the artificial island of Peberholm (Pepper Island) south of Saltholm (Salt Island) in Denmark. 6 If you were a GA in June, you might be tired. You might be tired because you went on a scavenger hunt all over the church when you learned about missions activities in New York City. You might appear in a lot of silly photos along with some very strange items such as a doorknob, a refrigerator, or a really big whale. You might be tired because you played Duck-Duck-Goose, and you were the goose. You might be tired because you painted a pink shirt to wear on outings with the GA group. You might be tired because you went on a picnic in the park, ate pizza and cookie pie in the rain, passed out VBS flyers, and played on the wet playground until you were so dirty your parents did not really want to take you home. You might be tired because you sat ever-sostill while Ms. Debbie painted you to look like a ferocious lion. You might be tired because you patiently helped the younger GA s assemble their Father s Day gifts. (Thank you, ladies!) 6

7 You might be tired because you helped make decorations for VBS. And, even though you were tired, if you were lucky, very, very lucky, you might have even seen Gracie smile. Well, just a little! Help the GA s The GA s need to know who the Veterans are in our church for an upcoming activity. If you are a veteran, please notify the church office!
