1 MSC STUDENT GOVERNME NT MINUTES Date: October 24, Call to order and Quorum Check- The meeting was called to order at 11:50 a.m. 2. Adoption of agenda- A. Michael DiBattista motioned to adopt the agenda. Jonathon Jacobs seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. 3. Approval of minutes from the previous meeting- A. Michael DiBattista motioned to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Luke Warta seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. 4. Guest Welcome- The council welcomed Shana Ellington from marketing and Kim Hayes from We the People to the meeting. 5. Guest Speakers- There was no guest speaker. 6. Reports A. Faculty and Staff Reports 1.Jo Didiano- NNTR 2.Eric Blomskog- Not present. 3.Craig Ballain- NNTR B. President s Report 1.Denise Reeve- a. Reminded the council that today and tomorrow are crazy hat days on campus and encouraged people to wear one tomorrow as well as today. b. Advised the council that if they have time to go into the library and check out the decorations that they have in there. Especially their giant pumpkin at the main desk.
2 C. Vice President s Report 1.Michael DiBattista- D. Secretary s Report E. Committees a. Also reminded the council about crazy hat days on campus. b. Informed the council that if they are supposed to be getting a name badge and have not gotten one yet that they can let him know and they will be on the list for the next printing of badges. 1.Andrea Bennett- NNTR 1.Club Council- Denise Reeve informed the council that more people have been attending the club council meetings. She also informed the council that during the meetings sometimes they move back and forth between JKB 128 and 129 so if they are not in one room just go next door. a. Beginning of semester budget- If you don t fill one out then you cannot get funded. So come to club council and learn how to fill one out. 2.Planning Committee- Michael DiBattista informed the council that they are looking into having a spirit week, but that it is still in the planning stages. a. Pumpkin Carving Contest- Michael DiBattista reminded the council of the deadlines for the contest. a. The 26 th is the deadline for signing up for the contest. b. The 29 th is the deadline for turning in your carved pumpkin. c. The 31 st is the day the pumpkins will be judged. b. Crazy Hat Days- Michael DiBattista reminded the council that Crazy Hat day is not only today but tomorrow as well. So if you forgot today then you can still play tomorrow. 3.Rules Committee- Stephen Warta reported that there will be a meeting soon. 4.Finance Committee- Denise Reeve informed the council that they will be meeting in the next week or two. 5.Constitution Committee- Chris Wetzler said that anyone on the committee should be expecting an by Friday.
3 6.Board of elections- Stephen Warta reminded the council that this committee meets next semester and still needs a student at large. 7.Student Media Board- Denise Reeve informed the council that the latest edition of the Monitor is out. She also reminded the council that the Monitor is a great way to promote clubs. Denise Reeve also informed the council of the deadlines for the next edition and said if someone needs the address to submit something they can get it from the Student Government Office. a. November 12 th articles are due to the editor. b. November 19 th ads are due to the editor. 8.Bulletin Board Committee- NNTR. Denise Reeve added that clubs need to put up their boards. 9.School Song Committee- 7. Business A. Old Business B. New Business 1.Legislative Affairs- Denise Reeve reminded the council that there is only 1 more week until the letters are due if you would like to be considered to go on this trip. The Deadline is October 31 st at 5PM. No late letters will be accepted after that point. 1.PTK induction Ceremony- The PTK induction ceremony will take place on November 3 rd at noon. Anyone involved in PTK who would like more information on how to be involved can see Denise Reeve or Chris Wetzler. 2.Study Abroad- Denise Reeve announced that there will be a study abroad seminar today on campus. It will be at 4:30. 3.Lisa Murkowski- Denise Reeve informed us that Senator Lisa Murkowski will be present on campus on Halloween. She will be in the atrium from 2:30-3:45 and light refreshments will be served. 4.Fall door decorating contest- Denise Reeve announced that the campus is having a faculty and staff door decorating contest. The Student Government door got decorated yesterday and if you have any changes that you feel need to be made feel free to bring your ideas to the office. a. Judging October 30 th 5.Native Dance- Denise Reeve announced that there will be a native dance event brought to you by the diversity committee. a. November 8 th in the Café from 4-5:40 pm
4 8. Club Announcements 6.JR ROTC Veterans flag Ceremony- Denise Reeve announced that Student Government typically gives out certificates to our veterans on campus. Also there will be a flag ceremony in honor of our servicemen brought in by one of the High Schools. a. November 12th A. American Sign Language- No representative present. B. Carbon Crew- Stephen Warta announced that they are meeting today after the Student Government meeting and are talking about getting another speaker. C. College Students for Christ- Chaz Lyons announced that the club is working on their Christmas charity event. D. Dragon Cinema- Michael DiBattista announced that their last meeting went very well. They also now have popcorn during their meetings. E. Gay Straight Alliance- Benjamin Roth informed the council that there is NNTR. F. Japanese Culture club- Jonathon Jacobs informed the council that they are still having their bake sale on Halloween even though there is now a time conflict with it and another event in the atrium. He expressed the clubs frustration with their being another event that offered food during the same time even though they already had theirs scheduled. Shana Ellington explained that the cupcakes provided during the other event will only be offered for a limited amount of time and should not affect his sales very much at all. Jonathon Jacobs also informed the council of their art poster contest they have going on. The deadline to submit entries for that contest is November 9 th. Kim Hayes reminded the council that when you do any sort of contest where a cash or gift card prize is given out that there is paperwork that has to be filled out in order for it to work. G. Mathletes- Theresa Thomas informed the council that the club is working on a new air balloon project. They are also working on their chili cook off that will be going on during Halloween in the atrium between 10 and 3. There will be a $10 entrance fee for anyone who would like to participate. H. Mat-Su Arctic Dragons- Chaz Lyons announced that the club will be holding a bake sale on Election Day, November 6 th in hopes to raise more money. If anyone would like to donate there is a signup sheet in the library. I. Mat-Su Dance Club- Will Scott informed the council that there is NNTR. J. Mat-Su Monitor- No representative was present. K. Medieval Combat Club- Luke Warta informed the council that there is NNTR. L. Metl Hedz- Chris Wetzler informed the council that the new board will be going up today. Denise Reeve informed the council that they will be getting t he opportunity to use their new kiln this week.
5 9. Comments M. MSC Paramedic Association- Daniel Ribuffo informed the council that next week on Halloween the club will be doing face painting. It is going to be things like bruises, bloody cuts, burns and things of that nature. It will be in Snodgrass 120 from They will also be accepting canned food donations at this time. N. Team Art- No representative was present. O. Vet Assisting- Grace Valley informed the council that there is NNTR. P. Veterans Club- Chad Stone informed the council that there is NNTR. Q. We the People- Kim Hayes announced that the club meets today at 2:30 in JKB 128. A. Jo Didiano mentioned that she thought it was a good thing for Lisa Murkowski s visit to mix with some of the clubs events because it shows more of what is going on and how our students our getting involved. B. Daniel Ribuffo informed the council that on the 7 th and 8 th of November on the UA campus there will be a commentary that we could get involved in. There is a class fee task force and they are talking about changing lab fees. The athletics fees will not be changed because they are on a 4 year scale so they cannot be affected right now. He also brought up that a new recreation center has been approved for their campus but our campus will not be able to use it. The LRC is also dropping their tutoring program. If someone wants to tutor they will need to post it in an online bulletin. This will impact the late night tutor program. The campus is also looking into creating their own liaisons for other campuses. However that can t be approved until Spring and would not be put into place until the following Fall. 10. Adjournment A. Michael DiBattista motioned to adjourn the meeting. Jonathon Jacobs seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 12:22PM.
