The Byron Delta Lions were happy to install new members Joan Taylor and Lidia Campos at our December Holiday general meeting, allowing them to see our toy drive! Joan is the mother-in-law of Lion Lisa Taylor. Lions of the Month The committee for our pre-school vision screening program are our Lions of the Month. Lions Paulette Doyle, Jane Perry, Linda Furlong, Joyce Musielak and Esther Ocampo. Our club is the only one in the 4C3 district to do screening and you ladies are doing a great job! Hello Lady Lions, Message from President Darla Cavallaro Holiday season is upon us and everyone is busier than ever. A time for celebration and reflection and cooking and shopping and hot apple cider. I love this time of year. Between Thanksgiving feasts, the Parade with our award winning float, our Holiday Dinner at Cap s, the LCVI lunch, and Toy Drive, the days are flying by. Next thing you know it will be Oh my. We have a busy year coming up. The district meeting is in January, then the Student Speaker contest, 4C3 Convention (where we have been nominated for club of the year), Strides Walk, Fund Raisers, LCVI Valentine s lunch, Fashion Shows, Read across America. And this is just off the top of my head! Then there are all those ongoing projects, food pantry, tutoring, recycling I am constantly in awe of what this club is capable of. The last six months have been wonderful. I feel I have gotten to know so many of you and it has all been so very good. I look forward to this upcoming year and continuing the good work we have always done. Giant hugs to each of you and wishing you all the best of health and happiness during this season and all the seasons to come. =D

4 Toy Drive D e c e m b e r P a g e 4 Brentwood Community Holiday Chorus The Byron Delta Lions was pleased to have the Brentwood Community Holiday Chorus, conducted by Susan Stuart, perform for us at our December holiday general meeting. Sue is recently retired from Liberty High School where she served as Choral Director for 35 years! In addition to the Holiday Chorus Sue also conducts the Brentwood Concert Band and continues to judge and promote music festivals and music education and performance through the Stuart Music Fund, founded by Susan Stuart and her late husband Bruce Stuart.

5 LCVI Holiday Luncheon D e c e m b e r P a g e 5 For those who attended the LCVI Holiday Luncheon, we were lucky to be entertained by The Delta Strummers. These four are the originals who started The Delta Strummers - Ward, Dorothy, Fritz and Joan. The group has flourished and they now have over 40 members practicing each week at Summerset 4. 7 D e c e m b e r P a g e 7 Sunglasses for Sale!! Lion Janene Gordon is heading up our Sunglass Sales. Lions in Sight has donated hundreds of pairs of new sun glasses to our Lions Club that we can sell at our events. Fifty percent of the money made is donated back to Lions in Sight, leaving the remainder for our club. Past President Paulette Doyle and Lion Kathy Doty have each also worked at selling these glasses. Remember to buy some to help out our club. Glasses are marked $20-$45 and we are selling them for $5 or 3 for $10. A great way to make money for our club projects. LCVI Opportunities - Recycling - Soldiers Please remember to check your calendars for Tuesday morning opportunities to serve at LCVI. (Lions Center for the Visually Impaired) The clients enjoy the companionship a lot. It s a casual, friendly environment and Past President Ann Jordan-Talley could use your help. There is coffee and continental breakfast items and a craft to work on with our blind friends. Ann if you can go. Bring your recyclable soda cans, water bottles and beer bottles to Lion Frankie Watkins at the general meeting. It is incredible how the money adds up. Also use your Smartcards at Food for Less and Lucky Stores and we receive a percentage back. These little things are ways you can make a difference in our club. Bring wish items for soldiers to the general meeting. They should be small as they must fit in their backpacks. Suggested items are foil pouches of chicken or tuna, beef jerky, AA and AAA batteries, hotel size toiletries (please tape closed), razors, playing cards. Frankie is also collecting these items. Thought of the Day edited by Janene Gordon Is anybody happier because you passed their way? Does anyone remember that you spoke to them today? When this day is over, and its toiling time is through; is there anyone to utter now a kindly word to you? Will you declare tonight, that you helped a single brother or sister of the many that you passed? Is a single heart rejoicing over what you did or said? Does the person who s hopes were fading, now with courage look ahead? Did you waste the day or use it wisely? Was it poorly or richly spent? Did you leave a highway of discontent, or a trail of simple kindness? Each night, as you close your eyes in slumber, I personally pray you hear these precious words whispered directly to you: Well done my good and faithful servant! After resting in peaceful bliss, remember this morning is God s way of saying one more time, go my faithful servant, make a difference, touch a heart, encourage a mind, inspire a soul and thoroughly enjoy the day - it is God s gift to you! Use it wisely! Have a blessed morning and a peaceful servant filled day!
