2 Page 2 Our pastor had four wisdom teeth cut out this week so we re borrowing a post from one of our international missionaries blog. Jesus knew I needed a giraffe my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 I admit it. The past few weeks have been rough. I ve been tired. I ve been frustrated. And, to be quite honest, I haven t liked living here very much. Things here that are completely common have been wearing on me. My heart is hurting. I have been so pained over the way things are here, over the difficulties and struggles of life that really don t have to be. I ve felt an utter helplessness for life here, for the sweet people I know who work all day, just to keep food in their bowls, a roof over their heads, and their children in school. And I have been reminded, more than ever before, that the only hope for this country is Jesus. When my four-year-old friend came to my house this week he brought me a present. It was a carving of a giraffe. I was thrilled, stunned, and completely humbled. I thanked him over and over again before I started crying. Did you know that giraffes are my favorite animal? He looked at me, grinned, and nodded. You told me! Jesus knew that I ve been struggling. He knew that I ve been heartsick. He knew that I ve been grieving over the way life is here. And he knew that I needed to be loved on by my sweet, pint-sized friend. I needed to know that, no matter what, I ve made at least a small impact on a small person here. He knew what I needed. And He made sure I got it in just the right way, at just the right time. I have to remember to trust Him. And I have to believe that He loves my friends here more than I ever could. Editors Note: Pray for God to encourage the missionaries when they are discouraged. Pray for Him to comfort them when they are feeling helpless. Pray that He will use them in a mighty way to impact their neighborhoods for Christ. (names, locations and original blog link omitted due to security issues) Please add to your prayer list Deacon Nominating Committee members to be announced. Regular Nominating Committee members to be announced. And please continue to pray for the director of missions (aka associational missionary) search for Houston Baptist Association. Search committee members are Craig Bussee, Carroll Camp, Vernette Lewis, Brenda Lockerman and Ray Sullivan. 5 Page 5 Monthly feature News from afar Editor s note: Over 25 years ago, Arlane and Geary Howell lived in Byromville and were members of BBC. Arlane along with Angie Lockerman Burton began our Children s Church. Suzy Grantham tracked them down on Facebook and received the following from them. We have wonderful memories of you all. We last visited Byromville about ten years ago on Mother's Day Sunday. We have six children. Sonny (30) and Raynee (27) are the two you may remember. We moved to Mississippi and had Harry (23), John (20), Polley (17), and Samuel (15). Raynee is an auditor for the Defense Department. She and her husband Andrew are parents of our granddaughter Nadia Margaret. They live in Louisville, Kentucky. Sonny, a high school biology teacher and cross country coach, lives in Clinton, MS with his wife Lindsey, and they are expecting twin boys in the early fall. We have lived near Tuscaloosa, AL and now live in Tullahoma, TN. I stayed at home with my children for over 20 years and then three years ago re-entered the workforce as an RN. We homeschooled all the children which worked out well for our family. So many people were so kind to us and impacted our lives in a special way during our younger years living in your community. Your daddy [Lewis Burnam] fixed our broken pipes for the cost of the parts the first winter we lived in that big old house. Thanks for the and the opportunity to share. Jill and Rhonda will kiss cow at The Last Roundup VBS Director Jill Brannen and her assistant Rhonda Youngblood will have to kiss a cow because the boys out gave the girls at this year s Vacation Bible School. The boys gave $ while the girls contributed $ If the girls had given the most, our pastor Andy Blankenship would be facing the same fate as Jill and Rhonda. The offerings will go to the West Virginia mission trip in July and an upcoming trip to Moldova to conduct a youth camp. Details about The Last Roundup on July 25 will be forthcoming.
