1 1 Box (5 linear inches) Biographical sketch: Arthur Beane, a Kingston resident, collected the shipping papers found in this Collection. The Collection covers the following ships: Morning Star: Schooner, weighing 77 tons. Built in Duxbury in 1802 or 1805 by unknown / owned by Benjamin Delano Leonidas: Schooner, weighing 103 tons. Built in Kingston in 1824 by Lysander Bartlett / owned by Benjamin Delano. Zamor: Brig, weighing 248 tons. Built in Kingston in 1826 by Stephen Drew / owned by Benjamin Delano, Richard F. Johnson, and Francis Johnson. Cordova: Schooner, weighing 93 tons, 69 feet long, 18 feet wide, 8 feet deep. Full bowed and had a white band around the hull at the waterways, with painted ports, old style, masts raking well aft and bowsprits steeved very high. Built in Kingston in 1835 by Lysander Bartlett / owned by Benjamin Delano. Cordova was retopped in Lysander Bartlett s yard in 1854 (mentioned in C. Bartlett s diary: January 16, 1854: Commenced joinering on schooner, Corodva. She is being new topped. She lies on the marsh at Deacon Bartlett s yard. this was the last work to be complete in the yard (on record). Delano s last vessel: they sold it in Mentioned in C. Bartlett s diary as on August 30, 1835 as coming in from the Grand Bank with a cargo of 42,000 fish. Known as one of the oldest running ships ( ): 47 years. Used for bank fishing, coasting, and West India voyages. Monte Cristo: Brig, weighing 161 tons. Built in Kingston in 1847 by Lysander Bartlett Jr. / owned by Benjamin Delano and Joshua Delano. Repaired in Kingston in part by Cornelius Bartlett August 14, Sail Plan of 1847 in Ships of K. Captain James fuller was first master and she was used for West India voyages, and sold soon after Scope and Content Note: This Collection contains ship papers from the following ships: Morning Star, Monte Cristo, Cordova, Leonidas, and the Zamar. 1
