1 Page 1 The Parish Scope The NEON Dinners continue Covenantal Coordinator s Report from: Dave Shaw The NEON Dinners go on. Come help out at the next one. Watch the Sunday Bulletins for Dates, Times and Places. This is an important Local Ministry. Silver Lake Conference Center Silver Lake Conference Center is ready for another summer where conferees of all ages will learn to Love God, Love Your Neighbor, and Love Yourself. Check out the poster in the Parish Hall. Spend some time at Silver Lake. It is only about an hour away on Route 4, west of Torrington, in the scenic northwest hills of Connecticut, in the town of Sharon. One can tour the Lake on Saturdays, in between Conferences. Check in at the Welcome Center before you tour the Lake. SLCC is an important ministry of the Connecticut Conference. Conferences like Rock of Ages, God Show, and Sing Praise perform Friday evening shows. One can eat a dinner for $10 and see a show there, by calling or ing Silver Lake. What other ministries shall we partner with? See for the Connecticut Conference and Silver Lake Activities. See for the activities of the General Synod of the UCC. See for the United Church Identity campaign. See for the ship Amistad s Itinerary. See for information on Casa Hogar, Oaxaca Mission Trips and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation, South Dakota Mission Trips. Summer Book Study! The Growth Committee, an offshoot of Diaconate, is excited to present a summertime book study of a quick and fascinating book: Help, Thanks, Wow; The Three Essential Prayers by Anne Lamott This is a wonderful book filled with uplifting messages and common sense spirituality. We will have 4 sessions over the summer, starting at 7pm and hope you can join us for all, but if vacation plans coincide, no worries join us when you can. The only requirement is reading the chapter ahead of the session and coming with an open heart. 2 Volume 60, Issue 6 Page 2 MISSION OUTREACH July is the usual month to begin collections for New Beginnings clothing drive to outfit Naugatuck children for the coming school year. Mission Outreach will sponsor 8 children again this year! Watch the bulletin for more information as it becomes available! There will be the usual sign up sheets when we have received the "needs" list for our children! Thank you, in advance, for your help as this is a special and fun project every year! PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY The prayer shawl ministry continues via regular and baptismal prayer shawls as well as pocket prayer shawls! There is no particular pattern for any of these, though there are several books with beautiful patterns and prayers if you are interested! Keep those crochet hooks and knitting needles humming as many people continue to receive the warmth and blessings that this ministry imparts. If you are aware of someone who could use this extra blessing, please let Gordon, Fredd, Joyce Monem or Joyce DeBisschop know so that we can provide you with a prayer shawl. PS: There is yarn available and lessons are free so just contact Joyce DeBisschop ( ) if you want yarn or need a little instruction! CHURCH FAIR Before we know it, November will be here and the Church will be buzzing with activity surrounding the Fair! If you are creating any hand made article over the summer, please consider making one to donate to the boutique! Since it is difficult to congregate during the summer, there will be a craft night at DeBisschop's (319 Quinn St, Naugatuck) on Sept 20th! Refreshments and crafting items will be available so mark your calendars and plan to come and have some fun! No experience is required as we will find a job for everyone! Hope to see you there!

5 Page 5 The Parish Scope Marji to return as Summer Assistant Director at Silver Lake Conference Center This summer Marji will again be serving as Summer Assistant Director at Silver Lake Conference Center. Part of the summer Marji will be job sharing and still continuing some work for us. However, later in the summer our Silver Lake Co-Directors, Tim and Anne Hughes, will be beginning a sabbatical. While Tim and Anne are away, Marji will be functioning as acting director. In preparation for and during this time, Marji will be taking four weeks of unpaid time just to focus on her responsibilities at Silver Lake. The Executive Committee of Council has reviewed and approved this arrangement in consultation with Marji. We would ask members of our congregation to be respectful of Marji s boundaries during those portion of the summer when she is not working for us. We hope you have a great summer Marji! Men s Retreat Brainstorming Our 2013 Men s Retreat will be held the weekend of October 4-6 at Silver Lake Conference Center. In preparation, we will be holding a Men s Retreat Brainstorming Session (to discuss theme and program ideas) on Monday, July 22 nd at 7:00 pm. Any man who would like to be a part of designing our Men s Retreat is welcome to join us. Further details on the Retreat itself (theme, price, etc.) will be published in the September Parish Scope but mark the date on your calendar now. July Softball Schedule The final two games of the regular season will be: July 10 5:45 pm versus St. Michael s July 8 pm versus Bible Church Playoffs are schedule to begin the week of July 29 th. Service on the Green Our annual ecumenical Service on the Green will be held on Sunday, July 28 th at 9:30 am on the Green, of course.
