1 THE BEATITUDES I love starting something new! We are blessed to be starting out together in the New Year of 2019! I pray that the entire Emanuel faith community is richly blessed by God throughout this new year. With a new year, comes a new sermon series! So, as we start the year together I return to my sabbatical during the Summer of 2018 where I was led to formulate a sermon series based on the Beatitudes. You may recall that the Beatitudes found in the Gospel of Matthew are statements designed to show the nature of the rule of Heaven by contradicting the ordinary human assumptions about who is well off and who is miserable. As an example: Matthew 5:3, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven." That is: Blessed are the spiritually deprived, the spiritually bankrupt since they too can have the kingdom. You may think this to be bold and I pray that this new sermon series is a bold proclamation of God s Truth in order that we can apply the teachings into our daily living. A little background, as God guided me to share with the entire Emanuel community about the Beatitudes I recalled a sermon by the late Dr. Robert H. Schuller, the spiritual host of the old television show The Hour of Power. Pastor Schuller probed the Beatitudes in an attempt to discover eight universal positive mental attitudes that have been used for their healing value through the ages. Through them, you can make real happiness truly possible. My goal is, and remains as already mentioned: that this new sermon series is a bold proclamation of God s Truth in order that we can apply these Biblical teachings into our daily living. 2 2018 Children s Christmas Program! The 2018 Christmas Program had more than 20 children singing, telling of a story of A Bright Star, and the people in the first Christmas story. Our children of all ages brought the news of Jesus the Christ! A special thank you to Vicki Taylor for helping with Emanuel s Choir and playing piano for Follow the Star and Do You Hear What I Hear. Thanks to Cara Bender for helping with costumes. And, thank you to Ron and Caleb for helping with sound.
