Indeed, quality of output even transcended bitter religious divions of time, music was admired performed by Protestants Roman Catholics alike. Prae Our Lord, All Ye Gentiles comes from Byrd s final collection of publhed music, Psalmes, Songs, Sonnets (1611). The four brief lines of Psalm 117 are fashioned into a lengthy, joyful setting that incorporates a wide range of musical styles, from pure homophony to dense, active sixpart imitation. Sir Charles Villiers Stanford studied at Cambridge University, also in Leipzig Berlin, where he was a pupil of Carl Reinecke: while in Germany, he became an ardent devotee of music of Johannes Brahms, whose influence strongly heard throughout Stanford s oeuvre. Stanford was later organt of Trinity College, Cambridge, before moving to London as first professor of composition at new Royal College of Music, where notable students included Gustav Holst, Herbert Howells, Ralph Vaughan Williams. H contribution to revival of Anglican Church music at end of nineteenth century unparalleled. Of all Stanford s motets anms, Three Latin Motets are most regularly sung, were written as graces to be performed before meals on feast days in hall of Trinity College. Beati quorum via lyrical second motet, which explores various textural combinations of a sixpart choir. The prelude features several of charming Six Short Preludes Postludes. In sixteenth century, fantasia was still an unclassified genre containing elements from a wide variety of different styles: for postlude, Byrd fashions a virtuosic work, combining intricate polyphony beautiful homophony. It contained in primary 11
